screamin jay was a boxer for a time--'whamee' ref. boxing is how i took it. Other blues artists like Jack Dupree who were boxers often carry the sport into their songs, 'i can take it on the chin'. Ref. Voodoo, funny never thought of it.

I believe it is a "love" or "lust" curse. I could be wrong tho, I vaguely remember reading about it years ago. the word "Whammy" supposedly derives from African voodoo terms like "juju" etc
