It's disgraceful the way Palin, Guiliani and others behaved at the Republican convent. They tried to turn the words "Community Organizer" into a dirty word because Barack Obama was one years ago. As was said before some of our greatest heroes and leaders of our country were "Community Organizers!" Examples Martin Luther King jr, Susan B. Anthony and Cesar Chavez to name a few. There are everyday C.O's and heroes in many of our U.S. communities today. They are of all parties and faiths. (cont.)
The essence of a party is continuity! Republicans are desperate to continue ruining the country, they're trying to beguile Americans with McCain, like he's different! Obama leads, McCain follows-lately he has even started reading Barack's notes-talking CHANGE! Running away from themselves? Obama worked as a community organizer straight out of college. Sure that pales in comparison to the number of lives touched and improved by participating in a state beauty pageant, but let's give the guy points for trying. ;)
Obama I read your book and I know it was a long time ago, but your life has been a journey and you have always worked hard to push your life into the right direction, from those early years you wanted to help people, and still you want to help people, so everything you have done shows us you should be President.

What a FOOL! This guy is such a fake! It's hard to believe he's blinded so many people with his double speak. He's gonna screw us all with tax hikes if he's wins....
How do you make 5 million a year off the backs of poor people? You become a community organizer and live off of government funds and grants. Obama says he want reform but big government has been his ticket to a huge pay day. What are we stupid don't try to con us, your for big government and big spending and raising taxes and not for reform!
- Palin used to smoke marijuana. her husband had a DUI case before. she doesn't have national security experience, etc. etc... I just hope that Obama wins, coz' I believe he will do as what he has promised, that he really means it. I trust that he can really solve our economy, healthcare, and national security issues. For McCain, i just can't seem to trust him to solve what's going on in our country. That's just my opinion....
the country deserves Obama...In my opinion, i do think that Obama has plans for each and every issue that Americans are facing, and that he is very detailed on his missions to be accomplished in order to solve what's really going on within the country, I repeat, WITHIN THE COUNTRY... for McCain, all they can say about him is that he is the perfect candidate to lead our country forward, and that he is a true soldier. i mean hello, is there anything else?and look at what kind of VP he chose...-
If he was a constitutional lawyer, why did he vote for the FISA Bill???? The FISA Bill just eroded our 4th AMENDMENT RIGHTS!! He is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Think about how the Christian right was fooled by W., you all are being fooled by Obama. I'm begging you to do research into his voting record. He doesn't care about us. G-d bless you all!!
Why do the Republicans attack community organizers, of all things? Because they want communities destroyed instead of organized?
On one hand, conservatives don't want government to provide a social safety net. They claim folks ought to look out for themselves. But at the same time, they treat anyone who actually tries to carry out that ideal as the punchline of a joke.
Obama was an organizer in Chicago. A city which 436 times the size of Wassila, Alaska.
He's a smart guy, but he's pandering here- Add that he's from one of the most corrupt states in our country...I like him but if he's for change picking Biden anchors him to the beltway status quo :-((
So that was what guiliani kept ragging on - we all know what a sleaze guiliani is, just ask donna hanover. Obama is above all that petty nastiness and he will restore our good name abroad and our greatness at home. Obama 08!!!!!!
The Republican party is full of Christians? Ha! They seem more like bullies in a schoolyard. The sarcastic and vitriolic speeches were ugly enough but the last straw was when Giuliani and Palin had the nerve to belittle Obama's community service and the whole place broke out in maniacal laughter. They will defend themselves by saying they weren't putting down community service but rather Obama's inexperience. A lousy argument, expressed with zero tact. These people are punks, not Christians!
Palin and Guliani pretty much spit in the face of every community organizer in this country by discrediting the great things they do every day. And thats not right.
no self-awareness this week outside the echo chamber of that small convention hall. acting like children, full of empty platitudes and clueless groupthink. with 40+ million average non-partisan americans watching closely, scratching their heads wtf is going on. and comparing side-by-side w/ obama just a week before.
Barack right back at them! Apart from the good things that come out of what organizers do, there is also the aspect of sacrifice for ideals- it is not a highly paying job, especially for a Harvard grad. But for the Republicans, sacrifice is something that others should be told to do...
The McCain's adopted a baby with medical needs from Mother Theresa's orphanage in Banglidesh. The Palin's, knowing beforehand that their unborn child, would have Down's, chose to have him anyway. You can tell by their personal lives that they are in LIFE itself for more than themselves. They are genuine.
Thank you Mr. Future President. That is a fact they aren't fighting for the American people, but rather themselves and the rest of corporate America. They are talking out of the side of their necks and we can see right through their phony tactics. The whole RNC was filled with hypocrisy, political ploys, and farcical comments. TWO WORDS= RIDICULOUS SHAM!
mccain only cares about the top 5%, those who will loose only a minute fraction of what they make if obama wins, and all of that 5% is republican except maybe bill gates, hes kick ass
I am from canonsburg pennsylvania and we are true democrats! you republicans hail John MCcain as a war hero when other boys and girls were beheaded and murdered so you republicans need to shut up!
yeah dude, I never seen so much sensibility in a presidential candidate before. Obama has the least amont of bullshit I've ever seen in a prominent politician
Great comment by Barack's campaign manager: "Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies." I'm aghast that McCain said "The status quo's got to go" because McCain and everyone connected to him IS the status quo. Their fight is waged for white rural America, aka the status quo, the people who have the most power and agency in this country. Barack & community organizers fight for the disenfranchised, so what is there to be ashamed of?
To hear that brain-dead lightweight who couldn't manage U of Idaho and had to change college 4 times in 6 years, to hear that nincompoop mock this man of vision and purpose... yeah, she's the future of GOP.
I felt Palin and Guiliani's mocking derision of community organizing was the most scary part of the GOP convention. It plays right into their strategy of dividing America by cultural lines. There's certainly a racial undertone behind their words. (Community Organizing = inner-city, poor, working-class minorities)
They know they won't win in the metropolitan areas, and they know they won't win the African-American votes, so they use them as wedges. As pawns in the same old politics of fear.
Oh my GOD!!! This guy has an extremely tough mind and record!!! What an answer and what a speech last week, Epic!!!!. Obama desn´t watch telepronter machines like palin, and has a much better record than she does (which is impressive too), and McCain is 72 years old and had cancer treatment 3 times. Are those the guys the GOP wants for America??? You are doomed. Just donated $100 to our next president, Obama '08.
I'm a community organizer in Youngstown, Ohio. The real reason McCain hates what I do? I'm enfranchising the most disadvantaged Americans, those who've been left on their own in his so-called "ownership society", those who can't pull themselves up by their bootstraps because they don't HAVE bootstraps. Those people don't think much of John McCain- and he knows there's enough of them to swing every state in this country. John McCain hates organizers because we've got him running scared.
great comment by Barack's campaign manager: "Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies." i'm aghast that McCain said "The status quo has got to go" because McCain and everyone connected to him IS the status quo! Their fight is waged solely for white rural America...aka the status quo, and the people with the most power and agency in this country. Barack & community organizers fight for the disenfranchised. What is to be ashamed of??
OBAMA RIPPED THEM A NEW ONE... and he does it without even throwing a punch... its like he just lets the swing... and just dips the hook and it comes back around and hits McCain/Palin right in the kisser... lol they should really start worrying about whats america doing and what america needs instead of trying to down talk Obama on issues that MCCAIN HAS HAD TEN TIMES WORSE IMPACT ON... how do u talk about something obama voted on as bad judgement when the guy ur running with voted the same way?
OH SNAP!!! I think that being a community organizer when he could have become a high priced lawyer after graduating as the head of the Harvard Law Review is a pretty compelling part of his biography. Anyone who discounts service to the community is sneering at people like MLK JR, Ghandi, and Susan B Anthony. Although, that shouldn't be surprising, given that McCain first voted against having a national holiday honoring MLK JR.
You have a valid point there. O had a choice and went for service. Palin had no choice with her 3rd class general studies diploma and even what she had was over achieving by her standards.
It is so hard when Conservatives have been so vile and so deceitful not to hate them for what they have said about Obama and his record. But somehow Obama, like a true leader will not take their bait. He remains cool and dignified. I hope the american people recognize the winner of this fight despite the Republican's attempt to slander Obama's record and character.
Ask yourself this: how much does McSame stand to make from his current wife's money on his tax plan if he wins? His "community service" seems limited to his household(s). What about us?
kudos to willamato! Obama worked with ordianry people firsthand....not john mccain or "hockey(one of the most expensive sports for a child to play)mom" Sarah Palin. Palin's also "stay at home" husband happened to be a head honcho for bp....bet the RNC didnt mention that....OBAMA 08
When ever it is mentioned by McCain's surrogates or media pundits that Palin has executive experience(mayor/governer) vs Barack, Obama supporters should remind them that BUSH had "executive experience" as governor texas, 2nd largest in size and population, and in oil business. See where BUSH similar experience has done for country.
Palin loathes polar bears-she made attempts to adjust their endangered status-all so she could drill Alaska's limited reserves. She failed, nonetheless, that is telling!
Obama first attacks Palan's experience. He was working as a lawyer padding his pocket. Obama has little experience making executive decisions in government
I call your comment SLIME because you know its crap. Bush was a Governor and see where that got us. If it were just about Executive experience then Mccain isn't qualified. The Republicans should be embarrassed.
myoldapt; accusing obama of being a community organizer for the money is a JOKE. that's like saying a teacher in a public school is in it to scam big bucks off poor kids. Oh, those greedy, greedy teachers and community organizers!!! if you want to talk about milking the public purse for your own gain, let's have a conversation about cheney and halliburton, shall we.
Sarah Palin's bizarre denigration of Obama's community service work was completely amateurish and politically unwise. She elicited a telling laugh from her gathered crowd at the convention last night. But she should recall that there are many Americans in Chicago and elsewhere who have found jobs, a sense of fellowship, and a helping hand because of the efforts of organizers like Obama. Those latter folks are completely justified in rising up in indignation to Palin's remark last night.
Not to mention that many Chicago college campuses have a larger population than the town of Wasilla and the population of just the city of Chicago is about four times the population of all of Alaska.
Palin just pissed off a very crucial segment of the American population -- community organizers. People who are strong in their convictions and their ability to rally others to their cause. The Republicans just shot themselves in the face.
Some times they give the impression that they are actually campaigning for Obama. They are so desperate to attack him and cant find anything effective. Now they settle to attack 90% of Americans, because thats where O belongs.
In order for Mrs Palin to compare herself to O,she has to go back to when O just left his first college.Mind u they are in the same age group but she knows she cant compare her present to his.so compare her present self to O 20 years ago
He knows that it's time for our government to work for us, the people, not the privileged few. It's time for morality, and accountability. It's time for righteous indignation! It's time for change! That's why we must elect Barack Obama as our President of the United States of America!
Barack Obama is the real deal! He's not in this because of greed, nor pride, not because of envy, nor ambition. He's here because he, like the majority of us, knows that America is better than the current administration and where self serving big-business has taken us.
Obama handled this question brilliantly. The Republican party dismisses and belittles the impoverished and struggling Americans (whose numbers in the current economy are only getting larger) at their own peril.
Palin is divisive just like Bush. For her to criticize Obama for his work to help people is a testament to the fact that their ticket is clueless. And he's right. She skipped huge chapters in his life to try to compare herself to him. He's out of her league. She's feisty but so was my Grandma. Doesn't mean my Grandma was qualified to be Vice President!
What was Biden thinking when he called Pilan's speech 'amazing"? Who is Biden supposedly representing... Obama OR Pilan? Pilan's speech is just a bunch of meandering tirade of mudslinging and uninspiring insults against Obama.
Wow. Community Organizer. President of the Harvard Law Review. Constitutional Law Professor, State Senator, United States Senator and in a few months President of the United States of America.
How dare that idiot says Barack does not have the experience to be the President. How dare they.
Com. Organizing is important. In a few states, those who have served their debt to society (released from prison) R not automatically given all their civil rights (THEY CANNOT VOTE). This issue has been in the hands of the GOV of KY for a too LONG time, and is unlikely 2 be resolved on this an ELECTION year.!! One city church is ORGANIZING the community 2 bring attention & get this issue sent to the Supreme court so it will become a judicial decision and not left in the hands of politicians.
Saying and doing is a hole nother thing!!! And Do yall even know about his brother look him up doesnt even help him another thing people complained about bush being president is hard you cant always do somthing the public will like Things like democrats republicans sections are idiocy All humans are the same no matter what everyhuman has evil in them good in them some are jsut mroe stronger then the other
Obama graduated top of his clas from Columbia and Harvard, did community organizing, taugh constitutional law, was state senator for 7 years, US senator 4 years, was in the public eye for 2 years defeating the toughest policians in the country and getting 18 million votes.
Palin has a degree in journalism from University of Idaho, is mayor of a village of 6000, and has been fo 18 months the governor of a state with less people than Colombus OH, Memphis or Seattle.
So this woman was a mayor of a town of 9000 people yet Obama got 84,000 people in a stadium built to hold 75,000. Now would some one please tell me if Palin could top that feat?
I can see why McCain chose his "soulmate" Gov. Palin: she is the FEMALE version of George W. Bush. An extreme right-wing evangelical Christian who abuses power, tries to avoid investigation, lies about her track record, and tries to inject her religion into politics.
Absolutely! How dare they knock anyone who has lived and worked his way in the community to help uplift americans. What does that say about them. All I keep hearing is REFORM! REFORM! REFORM! From the Republicans. Reform is a smoke screen. Reform means fix Washington and hope that the effects trickle down to the country's citizens. How about invest in its Citizens and let prosperity trickle up to Washington. It's time for a change.
Community organizers are how communities help themselves, just like Reagan wanted, right? So how come Palin thinks being a taxpayer-paid mayor is better than a private citizen organizer? Maybe because the Republicans don't stand for anything or anyone except themselves.
WTF is community organizing?!?!?!?

Here are some notable examples of community organizers at work:
- the signers of the Declaration of Independence;
- the abolitionists before the Civil War;
- Susan B. Anthony and all the people who worked for women's suffrage;
- Mahatma Gandhi and his followers;
- Martin Luther King and his followers.
Evidently Sara Palin thinks that none of these people had any "actual responsibilities."

What are we stupid don't try to con us, your for big government and big spending and raising taxes and not for reform!

I just hope that Obama wins, coz' I believe he will do as what he has promised, that he really means it. I trust that he can really solve our economy, healthcare, and national security issues. For McCain, i just can't seem to trust him to solve what's going on in our country. That's just my opinion....

you Republicans are so fucked up. the RNC was a circus of idiocy and self-congratulatory ignorance.
bolicsoundz 3 years ago
Why do the Republicans attack community organizers, of all things? Because they want communities destroyed instead of organized?
On one hand, conservatives don't want government to provide a social safety net. They claim folks ought to look out for themselves. But at the same time, they treat anyone who actually tries to carry out that ideal as the punchline of a joke.
Obama was an organizer in Chicago. A city which 436 times the size of Wassila, Alaska.

Barack & community organizers fight for the disenfranchised, so what is there to be ashamed of?

ilian73 3 years ago
I felt Palin and Guiliani's mocking derision of community organizing was the most scary part of the GOP convention. It plays right into their strategy of dividing America by cultural lines. There's certainly a racial undertone behind their words. (Community Organizing = inner-city, poor, working-class minorities)
They know they won't win in the metropolitan areas, and they know they won't win the African-American votes, so they use them as wedges. As pawns in the same old politics of fear.

TheArtOfTheComment 3 years ago 22
