I'll have to check out his solo stuff. I became familiar with him a number of years ago after hearing "A Certain Love" by the Lost Dogs and I've since become a big fan of DA, the 77s and the Lost Dogs.
Both his older solo albums (Knowledge & Innocence, A Briefing For The Ascent) are excellent and worth seeking out. I recently found a downloadable Briefing for the Ascent either on Amazon.com or Itunes for <$10 - don't lose that deal!
