@snowconedxx39 They're probably using a tecnhique called "double-tonguing" - this is effective on most non-reed instruments (including the flute). If you say, "Tick-a tick-a tick-a tick-a" repeatedly, that's basically how it's done. It's a little more difficult to do that and maintain a correct position on the instrument's mouthpiece, but it can be done. I'm a clarinet player but even I was able to do it on my father's baritone. :-)
@obiwan2112 I think this is completely different from the Crosby arrangement,This clarinet solo is very weak, but it's replaced by a great trombone duet. Incidentally, I went to high school with the Assunto brothers and they were great even then. What a shame they both died so young. One of their wives was billed as "The Duchess" and she had a version of "The Glory of Love" that would knock your socks off. Thanks for listening to an old man's memories.
@MrScrooge381 How is the clarinet solo "very weak"? He starts out in a lower register, perhaps a bit lower than what I've usually heard, but then ends up in the higher registers, itting a few of the highest notes possible ona clarinet. I thought his transistions between registers was good, and he maintained a fairly even tone throughout. Some clarinetists might go for a more raucous, "screetchy" sound on dixieland music. Overall, I thought it was pretty good. : -)
Still the best! Started collecting their Audio Fidelity label LPs in the late 50s; saw them in person in the early 60s in St. Louis. Wish more of the original group, with all 3 Assuntos, was on cd.
What a final chorus !! Great finish to perhaps the greatest Dixieland tune ever written. Always brings goose bumps,

I put this neck and neck with the Bob Crosby version. Both are magnificent!

LOVE the two trombones - Papa Jac and Frank. So clean, so different. Uncluttered.
