Wonderful tune, should have been a national hit, but did not make the air in NYC when I grew up there. And the old 8MM clip is positively wistful, golden California kids on the beach in front of a bandshell. You know a lot of the guys seen here probably ended up in Vietnam, but on this day the future was no doubt bright and promising...
Thanks for posting this, etypebob! This was one of the first 45's I bought back in the spring of 1966, ( I lived in San Jose then, and KLIV played it all the time) and it is still one of my favorite tunes. This footage from Santa Cruz is incredible. I still check out the S.C. bandshell shows when I'm visiting CA.
I always thought I was a real music buff, but I've just discovered the E-types. What an incredible sound. This song is unreal. It's now in my top ten of all time - I could play this all day long. What a voice, Bob. What great hooks! Wow!
I'm pretty sure my best friend Dayla and I were at this performance - The E-Types were one of the local bands we followed....along with Chocolate Watchband, Syndicate of Sound, William Penn & his Pals, Teddy & his Patches, Harbinger Complex, People......etc. etc. etc. This really takes me back!!!!! Very cool!
Yes Rosemarie,, this is a wonderful song by The E-Types. I love it. I was just 1 year old when this was filmed. I was born in 1964. Thanks to Bob for sharing!
WOW! What great footage! The E-types and others like them from the sixties were great. It was truly a great time for music. To have this footage is fantastic. To share it with us~~phenomenal! Thanks.
This is my favourite video of The E-Types Bob. Brilliant! I love your Music very much my dear friend. Grazie for sharing!! Yes they do have a great sound I agree with you!
I cannot believe this video exists!..I was living in Santa Cruz at this time. I was 16 and used to watch the E-Types all of the time in Monterey and Salinas etc. They were one of my favorite bands! I was also in a group that used to play the Cocoanut Grove from time to time!..Thanks for posting this one!
You were lucky to see The E-types perform LIVE in Monterey and Salinas, California. I just created a new Blogspot for their band. Please have a look at my You Tube profile.
Bob is such a talented Musician. I give him and The E-types a standing ovation and much applause. Thank you for sharing your Music with the world Bob. 5 stars for this video!
hey if you had a band way back then (and there!) I'd love to hear more about it. I have a 60's magazine/label and look for obscure bands for interviews and reissues/compilations. Drop me a line if you like.. cheers
OMG! too cool! complete with the cuties shakin' it! It's so awesome that you have shared this footage with the Youtube community! guys like me were too young to be there, so all we have is the stored sights and sounds. Personal films/pics make it alot more real for people born too late (like me) who wish they could have been there.
Well this took me there, and that's very cool indeed!
Wonderful footage of good times and fond memories
for you, I'm sure. Thank you for sharing them with us! ;)
In the mid-'60s, lots of great bands should have been big stars and should have had big hits . . . .and for my money, none were better than The E-Types from Salinas, Calif., and The Blue Things from Kansas. It's a crying shame that neither got the distribution or promotion that would have made the brass ring theirs. Otherwise, both would have been in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.
I love the E-types even though I wasn't born til Dec.'66. I know Danny Monigold who was the bass player and Bob Wence, and Reggie Schafer who is the drummer. I have four of their original 45's on Sunburst and Link records. Also one on Dot records. They were also the original band to record No Milk Today, as far as I know, not Herman's Hermits. Interesting story behind that one. These guys were the BEST thing to come out of Salinas! Thanks for posting this!!
You just can't do these types of events anymore. I miss going and seeing good music done live and no one gets arrested. That and the guys actually being able to play and sing.
This looks like it is right out the mid-sixties beach party movies except this is the real thing. Everybody is rockin' out and having a great time. Very cool Beatle-like tune too.

Is there a way the E-Types can get into the Rock and Roll Hal of Fame?? They should have a section for bands like this!

NOTE:
Every summer,Concerts are still held
on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, calif
just as you see it on this film.
People still sit & watch the bands
on the sand exactly as you see it
on this film.
The bandstand is still the "original" bandstand..BUT! I think in the 70's
the stage was moved a few feet from
where it stood in 1965.
