It tells that before anything, they wanted to make an american anime. the pre-production had more than 400 characters ready and all was sent to japan to be animated! Later on they released a few toys based on the series.

They produced some toys later on because of demand. in the early 90's they started to test consumer behavior based on cartoons that should only advertise toys. I think mask and heman for example. The great shing about this series is that is was made to be great, not to sell toys. Usually toys are made and then someone creates a cartoon for it. Not the case here.

There is a great making of in the DVD box. The producer wanted to make the first american anime. And succeeded!!
