  • has he ever played this song live while sober lol love it

  • this dood's drunk

  • first off, i LOVE this band, this song is epic and so is Fake Empire and Start a War, but...

nobody's gonna comment on how the lead singer looks like he's on PCP or something ridonk?

    i mean look at him!

    hahahahahahaha

  • I wish I could have been at this show. The National at the Bowery would have been the stuff of legends. Best band ever; what they do is sheer genius.

  • I think this is one of my favourite songs of all time. In one of my favourite venues of all time. Oh shit I love these guys.

  • thank you for this amazing video, this band is insane

  • The vibe in that concert was so great, everyone singing and getting into it, cheering after Mr November.

  • So amazing energy, love it !

  • SIMPLY AWESOME

  • the coolest band on the planet right now

  • that drumming is off the chain!

  • I didn't think these guys could get any cooler... until I found out that they played the DNC convention and are huge Obama supporters.

Veterans for Obama/Biden!!! 08- yeah baby. Paul Tewes

  • What a bummer. I was just about to enjoy their music too :( Just kidding lol... I'm sure they all realize what happened in January.. nothing.

  • They are a really great band! And last night I went to see them in concert for a Obama capiegn and Matt jumped of the stage and it was about a 5 ft drop! IT WAS HILARIOUS! Then other band members had to pull him up! LOL! And they sang Mr.November! Man Matt was nuts! They are really great!

  • were you at the one at fountain square??

  • I am so obsessed with them.

  • great, consistent, band.

    the drummer is amazing.

also, one of the pair of brothers look like hobbits.

  • i missed them when they came to my town :'(

  • Best live band I have ever seen. Their set at lolla was outstanding.

  • Took me a month to recover from the last time I saw The National. Fucking traumatic.

I mean in a good way.

  • know exactly what you mean. as perfect as they are in studio, when i saw them live it was almost too good for me to handle. my ears didn't know what hit them.

  • Seen them twice this year (Coachella and Glastonbury) and they were the highlight of both festivals. Truly awesome!!

  • Saw these guys last month open for REM in New York. They were charged to play. The energy and passion that I saw is evident here. Seeing them in Central Park the 4th of August...

    Can't wait...

  • Saw them at t in the park the other day - i thought he was completely wasted but it seems that's just how he is on stage. He was drinking copious amounts of wine though. They were amazing anyway - this song was the highlight

  • Hooray I was at this show. They were simply incredible

  • saw them at coachella they were pretty awesome

  • i LOVELOVELOVE how matt sings.

i saw them live and cried when they sang this.

  • damn...damn...triple damn :)

  • i agree, the national to me are rock, the national to itunes are classified as rock, the national in the times is classified as rock, but hey who gives a sh*t, i couldnt care less, the national are amazing, whatever they are

  • i agree, the national to me are rock, the national to itunes are classified as rock, the national in the times is classified as rock, but hey who gives a sh*t, i couldnt care less, the national are amazing, whatever they are

  • Fucking Brilliant. End of fucking file!!!

  • Some say that this is not rock.

The chorus contains the line "I won't fuck us over".

This song is rock. Those who say otherwise as silly.

    QED

  • man man man indie is rock, this is rock, indie is the new rock.

pd: the stooges is more punk than rock

  • Drown yourself!

  • Somebody beneath me almost got everyhting I was hoping to say.

This IS rock, if you don't think so your music education is definitely lacking.

The Stooges were closer to the garage/punk genre.

The National are almost textbook rock.

American Idiot was a disappointing pop album by a band that used to be punk.

    THIS is Rock (N' Roll)

  • you just called one of the few bands that started POP-punk, PUNK, you're an idiot

  • The band that started POP-Punk was the Ramones, BUT POP-Punk is an oxymoron so I have to correct myself somewhat on that.

Also, The Stooges came before the Ramones.

Listen to Funhouse or something and then you'll clearly see that I'm correct.

In less, of course, you were referring to Green Day, who in their heyday were closer to punk than pop but still found a way to mix the two so I'll give you that.

It was the best example I could come up with at the time that was written.

  • Can we all just get back to the National?

They're amazing, whatever they are. End of.

  • Atrios approved!

  • U2 is awesome.

  • This is not rock.

  • loved it wen he grabbed the mic stand and started slamming it haha matts a badass!

  • Anyone saying The National sound like Coldplay needs to skinned alive and fed to the geese

  • amen

  • Anyone saying they sound like Coldplay doesn't listen to enough music. The National don't sound like anyone else. Very unique. This is what should play on radio. "I wont f*ck us over, I'm Mr. November...I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders..." Damn, this song rocks.

  • "Very unique"? They're a rock band playing a rock song. It's fine, but there's nothing particularly unusual about it. Also, the expression "very unique" makes you sound like an idiot.

  • ... adding, I'm sure you're far from an idiot in "real life." cheers!

  • Thanks for setting me straight. I shall now go and reexamine my definition of "unique" and all of my other previous ponderings in this life all due in part to your reply. Good thing we all don't say things that makes us look like idiots. Like "they're a rock band playing a rock song." Now there's a statement. Man, do you really know your music.

  • Lol...i don't know who you were talking to , but you're statement sounds exactly like something I would say. peace to you,man..:)

  • Does anyone know where you can find the lyrics for this song? It's amazing!

  • Your Mom's a 'coldplay' poser!

  • this is it, this is what the national is about.
