This is some great footage! God... like a million other people, I wish I'd been there! To the people talking shit about The Replacements: Yeah... this is pretty rough and even Paul himself admitted that their musicianship was lacking back then; but they had more heart than any of the BS out today. Hell... they were a better Nirvana than Nirvana ever was.Listen to "Unsatisfied", "Left Of The Dial", "Alex Chilton" or their cover of "September Gurls" and get back to me. Until then shut the f**k up.
@BaalofSouls You just told "The Replacements" to "learn to fucking play." You shouldn't talk about things you don't understand. Maybe you should actually look up some of their orignal work. "Bastards of Young," "Alex Chilton," "Unsatisfied"...those songs are classic and you're a dick.
@toddsayshi lol oh well. Music is opinion cocksucker. Not one opinion can be viewed as "correct" or "right" bc its a matter of opinion. And yes I am a dick. Im an asshole. So be it
@BaalofSouls Clearly you are still crying about it since you have to TRY and insult me. Insults only work if they actually bother me haha. Clearly it didn't. Nice try though.
@mattybock Chuck would kick thier skinny lame pasty white asses.....and do it at his current age of 82...then he would make 'em his bitch and then "turn them out"
easily my favorite band ever. played a show with bob stinson at the mirage 2 weeks before he died. i think the band he was playing with was called pop smear? he was backstage running around nekkid, then dressed up in a clowns suit to go play... eventually he got kicked out, and that was the last time i saw him.
This is an amazing version of this song. Maybe If you knew anything about American rock then you would understand. The Replacements are one of the best bands of all time...show a little respect.
Now this is pure, raw, kick ass rock' n roll by the best American band, ever... Somehow Paul ( is it Paul ??? ) can't remember the lyrics, but that makes it even greater
kapnkoolio if you want technical virtuosity instead of heart felt beauty and raw energy you REALLY typed the wrong thing into the youtube search engine. sorry.
I really like The Replacements, I love Chuck Berry, but what really hooked me in this video was that it happened in the very same day I was born. It's a weird feeling. Good though.
Man the replacements ARE Rock and Roll to me, being a MN musician myself. You got to remember they were drunk at most of their concerts. Alot of there concerts they were too drunk to play their own stuff so they played half assed covers. The Replacements didnt care if the concert would be heard 20 some years down the road they wanted a fun time. Thats what rock and roll is, not some band playing perfectly every concert but a band up there just to have fun, and bring fun to others.
I think ya can be cool and rock with energy and attitude and give your fans their money's worth without being drunk. Being shit-faced at a show that people made the effort to show up and pay to see is disrespectful. Having said that I always thought Paul was a talented singer and songwriter. Wish he had made more dough...yink.

Oh my goodness is this awful! What an amateur-sounding group. No, there are lots of quite talented amateurs on YouTube -- this is more like what a bunch of chimpanzees with electric guitars would sound like. But I think that's the sound they were going for.
@ztjordan Part of the luster or charm to the Mats was the fact they were rowdy, drunken punks. Or a rowdy, drunken unit. That's what made them special beyond the fact that they wrote amazing music.
OK, you're right -- I've changed my mind. On a second listening I've decided these guys are phenomenally talented virtuosos who have taken music to a level never previously conceived of. What they do is positively superhuman.
COMPLETELY forgot the words haha

Chuck Berry is NOT the king of Rock’n Roll. He is a Pedophile and a thief the sooner people realize this the better.

Thank you so much, i was looking for a long time to a pro shot of the replacements.
Do you know if a pro shot live version of Bastard of young does exist by any chance?
It's such a shame that there's not that much pro material concerning that band!
Regards.

I guess you like this group. What kind of "music" is this?
KapnKoolio 4 years ago
It's real live rock 'n' roll - not that stuff that comes out of a studio...
The Mats rock, but you've gotta understand the ethos to get it: this is '81 - the Mats were still rowdy, drunken punks.
Saying this is awful is like saying the Beatles sounded horrible on the Reeperbahn. Yeah, they probably did, but I still wish I could've seen it.
