  • Thanks for the review - it was quite helpful for deciding whether to buy or not !

  • @BasicModelling sorry i am a beginer but what does flash mean

  • @Legoreviewer98 Flash is plastic that has leaked around the parts when the plastic was injected into the mould, due to the mould being old and worn.. It can be tricky to remove sometimes, but if you don't remove it the parts won't fit or look right.. You will find it mainly on re-releases of old kits and not so much on any newly tooled kits..

  • Rob with glasses! :D

  • @Fredfiscars Oh yes.. :)

  • what is the plane of the 0:52

  • @camilo000001 I'm not sure.. I can't hear what the man is saying. :P

  • i got this plane............ i dropped it :(

  • @emochiken99 Not a good idea.... :P

  • Thought I might watch this video again, because as I said on your channel, I've just bought this kit, which I'm regretting now that I've remember the problems with the decals.. :( My stash is growing very quickly at least.. :) :) Luckily there is quite a lot of room for me to add weights, like you did, which you really do need with this model. Do you use that useful electric sander of yours to sand down the all of the filler? I really like what you've done with this kit.. :) Very nice job!

  • @2002And Yes, this kit needs a LOT of weights.. :) The decals are troublesome, but if you want to you can have my spare set.. that will increase your chances! If not, then there's always after market decals... :) I can't remember if I used the sander or not.. but yes, the model turned out acceptable in the end.. it is one of my favourites... :)

  • @BasicModelling I'll bet!... :) I'll try the kit decals first, but thanks for the back-up plan.. :) :) I hope I'll do OK with this kit, because it is one of my favorite Light bombers too.. :)

  • What are the names of the 2 tunes (First one starts at 1.00 and the second starts after it)?

  • what filler do u use??

  • @0h4yd3n0 Squadron White putty... it's the fine grade.. :)

  • done mine in the RAAF version where they modified it by painting the nose and fitting 5 extra 303 machine guns in the nose, one trainable and 2 extra browning machine guns in the rear, took alot of weights to get the nose to stay down.

  • @buidseach Yes, it is a bit tail heavy, to say the least... :) :)

  • I did my Boston like that, the decals I kept from my Airfix 1/72 IL2

  • @Giselle76502 Good idea... never waste decals left over, as they may be handy for something else.. :)

  • this is so simmilar to the b25 like the way it is put together and also the way the wheels are and also the tailsitting part

  • @lkj802 Yes.. I agree... :)

  • @BasicModelling is there anychance you have any bombers you can build because i really want to see what you can do to a bomber like a lanncaster or a b17 or another heavy bomber.

  • @lkj802 I have started a B-17, but it needs a total repaint and sorting out, which is why it is delayed.. I will build a 1/72 Lancaster in July when I'm on holiday and can put a lot of time aside for modelling.. I have built a B-24 Liberator in 1/72 scale only recently, that video should be easy to find on my channel.. I also hope to build 1 or 2 B-25's, and a Halifax.. as well as maybe a German bomber or two.. The builds will be spread out over the rest of this year, most likely.. :)

  • @BasicModelling thanks i can't wait because im mad on bombers now since i find that they are practically the work horses of thee war constantly flying and so im going to put them on my ceiling in my room also do you know how to put them on the roof is it just a screw and then some fishing line around each wing

  • @lkj802 I'd use a secure hook, as you may want to remove the model from time to time and dust it.. but yes, fishing line is strong and should work well,, :)

  • just finishing this exact kit, did it in a few hours, just to put the screens on and decide which version to choose.

  • @buidseach If I remember corectly, you get to chose between a US version, South African and British?? But I may be wrong.. :)

  • Nice I always thought they were lots bigger like Lancaster big

  • @thehjupo The Boston was classed as a medium bomber, I think.. The Lanc is definetely a HEAVY... :)

  • An old man my mum now was a tail gunner on a boston

  • I got that kit ages ago and when i finally got to do it the wings bottemes and decals

    had dissapeared!UUUUUGGGGGG!!

  • @eyelidddd I know that feeling.. :)

  • The nacelles and landing gear of the 1/72 airfix mossie is so FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The two halves of the framework go around the wheel, have a mudguard in between them and then fit crudely into the nacells

  • @MilitaryAircraft101 I know.. and I have 4 of the *&^" things to build... :)

  • You use a power sander? YOU BLOODY CHEATER! :-D

  • @GoodwoodAlpha I use my little mini-drill (with various attachments) when I have no other options.. :) :)

  • at 0:56 is that a hybrid of an airplane and a helicopter??

  • @Aerolseventh It is an autogyro, or gyrocopter.. There are a few different designs, but they all basically work in the same way, with an auto rotation (not powered) rotor / wing on top and a push (or pull) propeller at the back (or front).. The autogyros can't hover like a helicopter, and they do need a runway as they can't take of or land vertically, so in effect they are more like aeroplanes than helicopters.. but they are safer to fly than planes, because of the autorotation.. :)

  • @BasicModelling not correct, Juan de la Cireva not only designs the autogiro but also improves the design and found the way to make vertical take offs

  • nice plane

  • @mrjippythunderwood Thank you.. :) :)

  • do you only work with aircrafts

  • @DuhMulti Nope.. I build military vehicles and tanks, the odd car and sometimes ships and submarines.. but my main interest lies with the aircraft, be it planes or helicopters! I'm going to try a figure before too long too, got the kit.. just haven't got the time.. :) Too many other projects on the go..

  • god i dont know how you do it, im crap with paintbrushes and models

you always get them looking really reasonable. im an airbrush guy a cheat maybe

anyway as aalways keep the vids coming i love watching them

  • @a24218361 I'm happy with 'reasonable'.. Personally I do not believe the perfect model exists! :) Handbrush or airbrush are different techniques, and as with everything it takes practise to make good. I'm far from perfect, though.. but apart from the fact that I have nowhere to airbrush, I have a feeling my airbrushing would be worse, than my handbrushing is now.. The only bit I miss by not airbrushing, is the various weathering techniques, which are so much easier to apply, if you airbrush.. :)

  • Agreed, those old models are cheap! I got a Chinese tank for €9,99. It was made in 1991! And it was crappy! All the tanks in the 60s through 90s where motorized but had no moving parts! (except for Tamiya in the 70s)

  • @ModelbuildingTANKS Yes, I remember them well.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Well, it'll be done and finished soon. I'll enjoy it!

  • @ModelbuildingTANKS Good... I find tanks easier, generally, than planes.. that's why I did the T-55, to get a break from the plane I was doing, and finish something quick.. :)

  • @ColaWhiski Thank you.. My models are far from brilliant, but I build for my own bit of fun.. not to win competitions!! :) :) So from that point of view I'm quite happy with them.. :)

  • Nice to see the bomber for a change. Very nice plane and paint, brushing gives a very nice effect.

  • @VVojtekSoldierBear Thank you.. I will try and do a few more bombers.. :) When I have cleared some more space by my workstation I should get going on the Short Stirling.. but it will be BIG.. :)

  • @BasicModelling - it was a heavy bomber after all :)

  • @VVojtekSoldierBear True.. Not a very succesful one, but that was mainly down to design.. Larger wings and it would have done a lot better! :)

  • nice video with appropriate music - Your models are fantastic ...

  • @ColaWhiski Thank you.. Fantastic they're not.. but they're ok, I guess.. :)

  • ... if you say that your models are ok, then my models are relatively shit, so I say: Your models are fantastic! ^ ^ ... No, jokes aside ... ! For me your models are fantastic .. and know that you yourself also ...

  • Kraznaya armiya Slava! Well done! The white wash is perfect! Gawd, I remember the old Revell Boston I had when I was, oh... 15 or so. It was more like 1/87 instead of 1/72. I'm going to have to do a short video of the Eastern Express Fairey Gannet I've picked up over the weekend. Talk about basic, there is no interior, just pilot and crew heads protruding from the fuselage halves! Well done again! :)

  • Thank you.. the challenge is to be able to make something decent out of a kit like that.. which I know you are more than capable of!! Having a spell 'off' modelling again, but your comments have ignited a bit of the spirit.. Just stuck on a dreadful HobbyBoss F-15, which rather killed the model mood.. :)

  • I love that worn-out look; it makes it so realistic. One question on how to attach strings: don´t you put anything to the ends of the thread -or whatever you use to imitate radio cables- rather than gluing them straightaway to the model?

And talking about classic 1/72 Airfix models, I recetly finnished the Avro Anson (painted overall yellow)... after an incredible struggle with the AWFUL quality of its pieces. It was a miracle that finally I could manage to keep calm...

  • No, I don't put anything much on the ends, it's tricky enough to get it right as it is.. but a guess a blob of superglue would do the trick for an insolator.. :)

  • i hated making this model i still need to finish it but i was away from youtube for a while and am hoping to get back into making models

  • Well, the winter camo helped covering up some of the worst bits.. :) I hope you won't bin yours, it'll look good when done, I'm sure... :) :)

  • @BasicModelling i wont bin it ill burn it XD nah but i will get it done eventually + iam thinking about buying a bae nimrod

  • I remember the Nimrod from my Air Force days.. constanly flying over Swedish territorial waters.. the RAF was more of a pain than the Soviets at the time, to be honest!! A great plane, a model of which will keep you busy for quite a while.. I hope you have plenty of filler... :) :)

  • @BasicModelling you said that about the lancaster and it took me 5 hours but yeah you said about the nimrods, did you ever actually engage them

  • I think the standard procedure was to send up a Draken or Viggen fighter plane, take some photos as evidence and log another formal complaint at the British Embassy.. :) :)

  • @BasicModelling was this around the time of the cold war, as it would be pretty understandable people being worried about a hot war

  • It was in the early 80's, just as the cold war was beginning to come to an end.. I remember we had to keep a close eye on East Germany and especially Poland at the time as 'Solidarnosc' had just started to make themselves known.. But just how close and what we could see I can not tell you.. :) We were expecting refugees and a bit of action, which luckily never came to pass..

  • i know you would have loved a bit of action though yeah thank god and also thank god the russian outposts didnt lauunch the missiles after getting cloud formations, to be honest i always hated clouds

  • Speaking of Russians, it was always interesting to see what they werre up to, especially when they did combined Navy & Air Force exercises in the Baltic sea.. Let me just say that 'chaff' works well in blocking radars, but there are easy ways around it.. :)

  • One of your best vids. I liked the mix of pics and live video. I have really enjoyed some of the clips you've been pasting on the front of the videos lately , too.

    Love the snow camo!

  • I try and make it interesting as and when I can.. :) My next video will have more of me in it though, so best watched with the monitor turned off.. :) Ha ha ha ha.. :) Hope to get the model done by tonight and a video posted by tomorrow, as I will be off YouTubefor a while.. not sure for how long, it depends on what they discover on Thursday, when they will probe and poke me at the local hospital..

  • ..and even if all goes well after that, I won't be allowed to do ANYTHING for at least 48 hours, and can't be left on my own, so will stay at my mother-in-laws.. My son and wife are in London for what we hope will be my sons second to last or maybe even last chemotherapy session, and won't be home 'til Friday at the earliest.. :)

  • Thank you my hero =)

  • You're welcome.. :)

  • looks great!!

    5*

  • I know I do.. but the model is quite ok too!! :) :)

  • 5*****

yes i did ... And if you have read it this far you deserve a medal! Thank you.. . LOL

  • Well done, it's in the post!! :) :)

  • that is a nice one!

  • Thank you.. I am quite pleased with it.. :) :)

  • I won't put that plane in a diorama, but I will do a winter diorama later on with either a T-34-85 tank, or an IL-2 Sturmovik.. or both.. :) :) Quite like the idea of an Sherman ion wintercamo too.. :)

  • loved that old footage to get into the mood of this model

for me brought back the memories of the old decal's used by airfix, yes I am a old guy on the teen networks of the tube.

for some reason I remember warm water was the trick with removing those pesky airfix decals, I do remember ripping so many.

    I was only 4 years old...lol

  • Well, I rarely use the original Airfix decals anyway, as 'after market' stuff normally is better.. :) But I do have a real liking for most of the old Airfix kits.. quite nostalgic these days!! :)

  • well that was an interesting one. Good camo - from above they would just look like bright red stars whizzing by... hmmm...

  • Well, it has puzzled me , and many others a great deal.. they spent the time and effort adding all that whitewash.. and then left the great big red stars.. But I guess overall the camo must have worked... :) :)

  • It does look good in winter camo...

  • Sure does!! I like it when an experiment turns out quite well.. :) :)

  • Very nice I need to work on my washing and weather, I just completed a B-25 and it looks like it just rolled of the factory floor. My next kit I plan to add some age to it.

Very nice video I liked the video clip at the beginning.

  • Thank you.. I saw your B-25 video earlier and you did a good job.. :) :)

  • aNOTHER AWESOME AIRPLANE VIDEO lOVE TO CHEW IT SOMEDAY

    Love ApplePie

  • In that case you will get an upset stomach.. and the plane is bigger than Pie, anyway.. so there.. ha ha ha ha..:)

  • You can still buy those little engines, I got one back in the summer, which I'm thinking of using in a 1/48 scale aircraft at some point.. :)

  • That winter camo was really cool - excuse the pun. Actually don't, it was intended! ;)

On a 1/72 scale, those raised rivets must actually look like golf balls in life size! Ah, how they did things in the past...

  • Yes, they are a bit out of scale.. a 1/72 model should really have very little in the way of panel lines and rivets, if any at all.. they're really only there to be pleasing to the eye and to allow some weathering et.c to be done.. but if you have seen my Airfix Blenheim video, you'll know that the model looks so much better if the rivets are sanded down, or removed altogether!.. :) Got started on my next Spitfire but not sure when I can complete it.. soon I hope! :)

  • This model isn't bad ;) I will building some models soon.

  • Good good.. I had great fun as usual, building this.. always nice to try something new, and I sure will make more snow camo'ed aircraft.. :)

  • That's exactly what I did... when I wasn't taping the planes to my bicycle handle so I could cycle with them, watching the propeller spin.. I used to build endless Airfix 1/72 P-40 Kittyhawks, just gluing them together.. great fun! If anything it's probably the kit I have built the most!! One day I will get nostalgic and build another one! Trouble is, things have moved on.. and the Academy kits are so much better. :) But nothing beats the carefree modelling of yester years.. sigh.. wipes tear..

  • I've never seen the snow weathering effect. I sure like it. Great idea.

  • Thank you.. They mainly used waterbased whitewash, which peeled of and wore through very quickly in the harsh winter weather.. so some winter camo'ed planes were more green than white in the end.. :)

  • Airfix prices does not always reflect the quality of their kits... :) :)

  • really wonderful.

    I want this :D

    ★★★★★5!

  • Thank you.. Glad you enjoyed it!! :)

  • @lapispinoza yes but the kit is still not bad!

  • ..no, it's rather awful.. :) :)

  • Even though I love your models, I must say, only because I'm honest, This model did'nt come out to great. :P

    But the video was entertaining!

And how come nobody besides Capt.Lagos has commented on my Part two of how not to build models?

  • Honesty is good.. it hurts like hell, but it's good!! Do I detect you're in a bad mood?? :) Anyway, it was supposed to show a well worn winter camo, and I think it does!! :) So I'm perfectly happy with it..

..as for me not watching or commenting on your video, I can only blame YouTube, it hasn't shown up in my subsbox!! But please send it to me in a PM and I will watch it as soon as I can.. your videos are entertaining too!! :) :)

  • Really? But the video was posted about 4 weeks ago!

And for the model (I love the plane I am actually going to try to find one in the summer to build) (I love Russian bombers)

and about me not liking the model, I DO like the model! :P The build is fantastic and the dirt gives the model a certain glow but I dislike the Idea of puting so much of it over the red stars....

    :P

  • Ok, fair enough.. I don't think I put any over the red stars, and if I did it was only to show a bit of wear and tear.. the quality of the paint at the time was such that the planes never stayed white for very long when used in the cold war winters.. I have periods off YouTube, and sadly they no longer offer the service they used to do, when all videos ever posted by your subs showed up and you could go back for weeks to watch anything you had missed.. Now you only get a handful of videos.. :(

  • Good job! I rember i did the same kit a hundred years ago.. and had a coin in each nacelle as weight!.(plus stones n the fuselage) the camo looks really good!

  • Thank you.. for a first attempt of a winter camo it's not too bad, I guess! The fact that the kit is old and full of rivets actually helped to make it look worn, so in this case it was a good thing! :) Now I nned to go back to the tackle shop and buy some more weights, though.. :)

  • WOW!!! Fantastic work bro, looks so realistic as the real thing!! The kit does look ancient, but with your special touches to it, you built it very well!! That is so cool, peace!!!

  • I've seen your killer model skills for a long time , but everything was so old ,this is the first time I ever found you on line live . Im a a ancient model builder , but I would like to share my vast archives with the you tubers . Could you e- mail me any info on how to ? Im reaching out to a select few what I consider elite you tube model peeps . Thanx for all your work .

  • Was this aimed at me or cwazmann1?? :)

  • Thank you very much.. :) :) The fact that the kit is old and full of raised panel lines and rivets actually helped in this case.. :)

But I wouldn't have missed a more modern kit, to be honest.. :)

  • I had this kit in my stash but it was so bad that I decided to sell it on! nevertheless you've made a great job of it , good to see some other decal options too!

  • Selling it on was probably the best option!! :) I could have done an even better job of this, scratchbuiling and so on.. but it didn't turn out too bad in the end! And the decal strips saved the canopy and nose, there's no way I could have painted those lines on.. :) :)

  • Good one !!

  • Not bad!! Thank you.. :)

  • Now THAT is how I imagine a used Russian plane to look like. I like this one a lot.

And that song will drone in my head tonight for sure.

  • Stars & Stripes forever?? :) Coming from a man of your artistic talent I take this as a huge compliment.. Thank you.. :)

  • You know it's been a day and that song IT STILL is bouncing around. You got a link to where I can get the MP3?

And the compliment is indeed intended as that. Even by your impeccable standard a masterpiece.

  • Well done.

Really liked the faded and worn paint job.

I'm surprised it took so much weight to keep it from tail sitting.

  • Well, the wheels are well front of the center of gravity, so I always knew it would take a lot of weight.. but even I was surprised! Now I need to go back to the tackleshop and get some more weights.. :) Thank you.. :)

  • You got it Rob that s history .*****

  • ,,and history is interesting!! :) :)

  • Moveable flaps? I can live with that ;) Good canopy work too!

I think the French flew Havocs as well. A lot of these medium American bombers seem to be tricycle geared :s

Nice beard you have going there, it must be the winter weather.

P.S. Cool music change halfway, but I would have used 'More than a a feeling' if you get my drift ;)

  • Snow drift? The French flew it, initially in RAF markings but after D-Day they were allowed to fly them in French colours.. The beard is all year round, but bigger in winter, and it really makes a difference for keeping warm!! :)

As for the Havoc, I'd love to get a kit, as I have a thing about Night Fighters too.. :)

  • My internet is being a pain right now, but I will try and watch your lovely boston video tommorrow :)

  • That was a short night!! :) :)

  • Wow Rob !

    Very nice done.

    Greetings, Ferd.

  • Thank you very much.. :) :)

  • Kewl looking craft... Do you know if there are any left?

  • I think there's quite a few of various versions left.. mainly in Australia, it seems.. There's about 3 or 4 or more in the US, some on display and some being restored. Also, they keep finding crashed WWII Bostons in Russia still, so the numbers are on the up! :) The former Soviet Union is a great source of many aircraft, as they used so many US & British types during WWII, as well as their own.. not to mention all the wrecked Luftwaffe planes that turn up here and there.. :)

  • great stuff rob :)

first it's always good to see you do some work live but it also looks like you tried something new this time?

    looks really good :D

  • Thank you.. Had it not been too late I may have entered it in your competition.. not that it would have done any better than the tank, but all the same.. :)

I always try new things, if there's anything new to be tried.. :) :) And as long as it is in any way beneficial to the build.. :)

  • oh rob you tease... dont think i didnt see the vulcan on your chair ;)

  • I did wonder if anyone would notice.. :) :) Well spotted!! It's been in that state for a while, but the way I work I could well get the urge to finish it at any time.. right now I'm busy working on something else, though.. :)

  • THIS PLANE IS AWSOME!!:) GOOD jobb with the paint:)

  • Thank you.. I saw a picture of one in a magazine, and decided I wanted something like that in my collection.. :)

  • I have a few of these, by Ertl, in 1/48th.

They are notorious tail sitters. Since you don't actually "use" the movable control surfaces, i wonder if you though of modifying them to sit better in their designated areas? A scale 1 foot gap on the elevators and ailerons is a bit startling!

  • I was going to do that, after I had painted it the first time, and saw just how bad it looked.. but I tried the winter camo and it covers up the worse of the bad bits, so I left it as was. But I agree, and had I built it for anyone else but myself I would have done a lot more work to it, like scratchbuilding some of the interior and putting some figures in to fill up the void! I guess it's not technically too late to rectify the movable control surfaces, should I feel the need to do so! :)

  • Nice

  • Tanks.. erh, I mean thanks,... :)

  • Beautifull =D

  • Thank you.. I like winter camo, but this is the first time I've actually made a plane in such a scheme.. :0)

  • Hello. Thanks for the tip of the balancing test :)

  • It's always worth checking the balance before gluing the fuselage together, as it's normally too late to add any extra weights once everything is glued in place!! I was lucky I could fit some extra weights behind the engines, though, as I still needed some... :)

  • great job like the decals and what do you use for rigging just string

  • Thank you! I use 'invisible' elasticated thread, which bonds very easily with superglue! The big advantage is that it stretches, so if touched accidentally it won't break. It can also be stretched quite thinly, which is good for 1/72 scale models.. Finally it can also be painted, without losing the ability to stretch.. :) Brilliant stuff.. :)

  • Thank you.. I just thought I'd do something a bit different.. :)

  • super but if the plane is on the ground, you don't need crew sitting inside...your music is great so all is brilliant.:)

  • The figures would still have filled up the cockpits and other areas nicely, though.. As for the music, I thought I'd trick you, by starting of with the Stars'n'Stripes... :) :)

  • Sousa will present you a discarded tuba...with lutefisk inside...mmm good..

  • Better than a comfy chair... :) :)

  • this lutefisk is prepared by George W. Bush :)

  • Gasp... Sounds like a WMD to me, now Britain better invade the US and hunt the former dicta.. erh, no.. perhaps not.. :)

  • we are prepared to repel an invasion by Sweden...just by selling weak coffee !

  • A very cunning plan! Don't tell myhuxpo.. :) There's no risk he'll see your comment, as he doesn't watch my videos anyway.. :) :)

  • we did repel one invasion of Nebraska and we can do it again..weak coffee does it everytime..care for a cuppa? you can see the bottom of the cup :)

  • AAAAAAAARGH.. too thin.. TOO THIN!!

    gURGL... gasp..

  • it always works (rubs hands together with vigor and shrieks with obvious pleasure) :)

  • What you do in your spare time and behind closed doors is none of my business... :) :)

  • vell, ve shall make te coffee even thinner yet and make it der national swedish drinken :)

  • Skål!

  • fine job. I knew, when I saw the info about sending these planes to russia, that you will make a soviet one :)

  • You know my taste in models only too well, by the sound of it!! :) But I think my next project may surprise even you... :) :)

Don't worry, it will still be an aeroplane... :) :)

  • Will it be the Avia? :D

  • Nope, that will be a while as I'm waiting for the old decals to fade, and the after market sheet to arrive in the post.. :)

  • Ok, I will let surprise myself then :D
