The 226BW sucks ass. I own one, and they are also notorious for shitting the bed after just one or 2 years like mine did, it started flickering, and now it has this vomit looking reddish brown tint, that monitor is done for. I bought a new Acer 22" TN display, and it's 1000 times better then the 226bw ever was. TN panels are evidently still improving.
right, S-PVA doesn't suffer from the purple hue you see on IPS and TN on a black screen which is a very good thing, it is a pity IPS doesn't solved the problem yet, the glow is annoying as hell.
men, at least i wish i have another monitor of tn, then i forgot how much i used to hate these color shift from Tn monitor. 2209wa made me forgot all my hate. cuz i watch movies on bed a lot, didn't realize 2209wa was able to give me accurate picture when i was not on horizontal with screen.
@silentzero7 The 226BW was barely a decent monitor. I owned one, but it crapped the bed, and even this brand new TN panel from Acer shits all over the 226 even when it was new.
Then you had a really bad, worn out CRT. Or it was just low-end to begin with.
Fun or you that you're happy though.............
The color shift / problems on an IPS display obviously aren't of the same nature as that of a TN... IPS is better than TN... But IPS still has horrible viewing angles and black levels; the image turns grey and whiter and loses color and contrast the further you go away from a dead-on-center view.
@SlLENTHlLL ...not quite right, ips is the master of viewing angles and color reproduction while pva is good on blacks and contrast, they suffer a bit of color distortion on extreme angles and are also slower than ips. there's a new matrix type from Samsung, S-PLS which has all the good qualities from both of those. anyway they're light ears away from TN shit, which i have now...
Yeah, all LCDs (including VA panels) have crappy viewing angles compared to CRT... but IPS have that weird glow thing going on... it's so annoying. Search for "IPS glow" (for lack of a better term) here.
VA panels have also have that glow OR RATHER it's not really a glow to begin with but just some effect that appears as if it's glowing... on IPS that is... on VA it's less pronounced and instead of glowing (white or some other color) it turns darker instead, which is less annoying.
So... while it may be argued that IPS possibly have better viewing angles than PVA... because of steadier color... that is rendered meaningless when you look from even just a tiny angle and the screen starts turning whiter... so in effect they don't really have good viewing angles.
I was at some store..... they had a ~$5000 TV there, and the viewing angles were shit... so pathetic.
No way that Samsung or anyone else is gonna create CRT-like angles on an LCD anytime soon...
We'll probably have to wait for OLED to get good viewing angles without any glow/hue or other weird stuff happening... but I won't be surprised if OLED turns out to be really slow or something... like it have a huge input lag or slow response time.
A real RGB-LED (full backlit array, not sidelit) should also create good viewing angles, but so far all LED displays are just sidelit and not RGB... just white.
@SlLENTHlLL yep, OLED are super fast but they are expensive as a good car and we wont see them on pc monitor market very soon, unfortunately. and they still have problems with blue diodes which dies faster than the others. there is an Samsung XL 30'' which uses RGB leds, but again the PRICE and is oriented only to pros. viewing angles on an LCD will never be as good like an CRT, and is the resolution problem they only have 1 good native resolution which is absurd. we wait to see what PLS brings
The funny thing is... you see the difference between TN and IPS here, yeah? Well, you could put a CRT next to the IPS and the difference would be just as big.
@juhazz you went over the top running away from what I said, dreaming of making a point based on nothing more than exaggeration instead of arguments. try talking about something from a change, besides remembering of you eyes bleeding experience. It is this simple: nobody goes to a movie or watch tv having to face with a dark or colorless image. monitors shouldn't be any different. It's not the end of the world if it happens, but it isn't good either.
@limafilho27 i think people will get irritated more from watching a skewed screen from the side than the actual bad color producing. but yeah, TN sucks when you got to watch below the center line (gets dark) , but that is still fixable simply by twisting the stand.
I used to have a 226BW for years, but now that I have a really good monitor (Dell U2410) I realize how shitty the 226BW in reality was. The colours are not too accurate or anything, the only good thing about it is the responsiveness.
I'm not a gamer or anything, i'm a music producer. So for me its more then fine. Its wide so it shows a long range of the tracks and it can fit many chanells without having to scroll sideways witch is really irritating while working. And the blue onswitch is so sexy i just went for it. I don't regret it at all. I might buy a second one.
It has nothing to do with it being Dell, the Samsung fades because its a TN panel, the dell is E-IPS panel and costs a bit more money. Can easily see the difference in colour and viewing angle.
@nwstud31 IPS panels are not well-known only for their good or should i say best viewing angles, they are best known for good and natural color reproduction. Photographers and designers using them. They are essential.
@juhazz sometimes people end up watching from every possible angle simply because their heads move. the head is not frozen over the neck. small head movements make a big difference. and you don't need to go to the extreme left or right (up or down) to have a bad experience on that samsung monitor. just a little bit can already spoil the whole thing. and we don't always want to watch from the regular and expected angle. do you? plus, samsung has always made bad monitors. I've got tons of proof.
@limafilho27 If you are that demanding user that by looking at that decent samsung five inches off the center will make your eyes bleed, of course you buy a IPS or MVA panel tft with double-sized price label. But still you got to admit that TN is well enough for most people in NORMAL use, (and btw i got tons of proof of this) do not count professional photo editing etc here..
Did I misunderstood something? Like you now said, TN is TN, and it doesnt really matter what TN display is in this comparison. It would still clearly show the downfalls of TN technology.
Nice video. Obviously the 2209WA would win out in video angles. It would have been interesting if you spent some time with a straight forward shot so we could compare vibrancy, and to some extent, color accuracy.
