  • i love airplanes i love films with airplanes

  • Never get in a plane with a captain called Ken Dodd.

  • Oh it's an MD...why am I not surprised :-/

  • daybree...??? debris. lol

  • you can see at they forgott the flaps

  • The aircraft CAN take off without flaps but you'd need a much higher ground speed and a whole lot more runway.

  • thumbs up if you are afraid to fly on a plane after watching this..

  • @lovebeer19 NO THUMBS UP

  • Love this show

  • I guess you can say Capt. Maus became a Deadmau5.

  • @BarGerMarMeyer Oh FFS, man. Damn you for making me laugh at that!

  • DC -------Death Cruzer

  • stupidity

  • @ckrailvideo: Are those planes from before or after the time of this crash?

  • A lot more people could of survived if the MD-80 had stoped in the street quicker

  • This makes me wanna build an electric jet engine :/ so when planes crash, they dont blow up :P

  • "The takeoff warning system was redesigned so it could not sound unless the plane was actually taking off" - Totally bogus. You hear it on ATC in the background all the time after airplanes have been given crossing clearances, etc. on the ground. Push the throttles up enough with the aircraft out of t/o config, with or without the engines running, and it'll sound.

  • This is not "Pilot Error" - it is Pilot negligence and they should be sued.

  • @OnlineAutoAuctions They're dead, honey.

  • May I just say.... thank you for posting this. You're my hero. These episodes are like my drug lol.

  • the ATC should ask them to go over the checklist again before giving takeoff clearance

  • Every pilot could learn from this episode. What a great lesson with the unfortunate and bitter taste of tragedy.

  • I like those series, but I feel sad towards the people who died in those crashes :( R.I.P

  • Flying is safe just look..

  • @Dorisequador The could make car/motorbike crash programs running 24 hours a day. These plane crashes are so very rare thats why they make good TV

  • @bluekhon11 Rare they are becoming less and less rare and far more common.

  • A Simple way to do this, in my own computerized world, would be to use a computer to analyze its position, when the airplane is ON THE RUNWAY, and the checklist has not been done yet, the computer would either warn or not allow for take off, this must of course be very hardly controlled with airspeed, and altitude so this safety-trigger wouldnt affect airplanes that fails to lan and need to run full power that the computer would trigger a similar warning in it self..

  • What about the other pilot in a plane behind the accident aircraft that witnessed the flaps and slats being extended? They should remove his piloting license as soon as possible if he is so deluded that he visually interprets the flight surfaces being extended when they actually are not.

  • @IdioticTendencies Maybe they should ban you from viewing tv at the same time as the pilot you're refering to was clearly female.

  • What a stupid people you are?! Putting God's name in vain? How dare you doing that! Never ever do that! Of you hate religious beliefs then take it personally don't take it publicly! Stupid people you need discipline!

  • Should never read comments before watching, ruins the entire episode!

  • beep beep beep stall lol

  • There must have been a mistake. A captain is ment to have four bars on his shoulders and blazer, but the captain had four bars on the left and three on the right!

  • 10:48 How on earth was God on her side? GRRRR! I hate all this religious nonsense! She is four, have life long burns scars, stupid kids may tease her at school about them, she lost her family, and have an unconventional life forever. She may have a life long fear of flying etc etc. Yes, God was really on her side with his life plan for her wasn't he!?

  • @atomicnortherner I totally agree. I can't stand bible thumpers who are so desperate to make sense of things, they say the most intangible and ridiculous crap, to justify a really f**ked up situation. God was on Cecelia's side??? So what about the other 140+ passengers? Was God not on their side? Were their lives expendable? Were they all extreme sinners who were being punished in mass? It's amazing how religious brainwashing makes it so people can't even think rationally.

  • @atomicnortherner

She didn't die!!! Thats a miracle in itself. God doesn't say there will be no pain in this world. He doesn't control people or things, and he himself says that!

  • wow dalton thats quite scary, your lucky x

  • 07:23 - they put some weird lookin van on the wrong side of the road. I guess the Brits forgot we drive on the right? :)

  • @PrisonFaces look closely, they are on the right.

  • @matatanXtreme To me it looks like its on the left (pointing toward the intersection) - actually looks like a crude mockup of an 89 Aerostar :)

  • i wonder if Northwest Airlines gave something to the little girl?

  • @TheBrrrrrra God Knows. i think.

  • @itsdaltonmiller so the plane has 149 passangers, i guess u are supposed to be the 150th?

  • @itsdaltonmiller yay ur alive!!!!

  • MBS is located in Freeland, Michigan, not Saginaw, Michigan

  • It's so sad

  • in the beginning and 12:04

looks familiar... am i right? (bomber in PAL434 and captain on THY981 )

  • @holydotkamote indeed, i think he also showed up in some more too.

  • i hope they both are inhell wow you guys are pro man not crack heads how can you for flaps wow

  • no flaps ong capt you kill them all you must b in hell

  • capt in a rush may have killed so many

  • 4 people don't like flaps.

  • thumbs up if your viewing this not on fullscreen

  • 8pm and sweltering??? ROFL...

  • They should make the computer do the checklists. Or make it so they cannot take off before checklists are completed

  • @roggerfrogger2 I don't think it will be long till a computer does everything to fly the plane, its almost that way now, I bet in the next twenty years all pilots will be striking as their pay is cut!

  • @roggerfrogger2 Most advanced planes have even the landing done by computers.. The pilots are needed to complete the check-list and take the plane off !! Even if check list completion are to be done by comp then there is no need for pilots and that will be complete automation!

  • @ushivasiddharrth We can't completely trust computers to handle our banking, why the hell would we give them complete control of our safety?

  • @luckysod04 Ya i agree with u !! Even here we have seen many episodes where autopilot makes some erratic movements because of taking wrong values from blocked pitot tubes, altimeter etc !!!

  • @luckysod04 actualy, we do trust computers to do our banking, u do it everytime u use ur credit card, etc

  • @farshad94abedi

And speaking from someone whose money has gotten stolen due to computer errors, I would say it sucks.

  • @roggerfrogger2 Ideas like that will allow the cyborgs to rise up.

  • @roggerfrogger2 Yeah, can't be too hard to build in a system in which the airplane computer checks which steps have been completed and which haven't, and displays a progress list in the MFD or something.

  • @roggerfrogger2 I don't know how informed you are about aviation, but I am a F/O Delta on a 737. What I'll tell you is that we need less computers on board an aircraft. Many things go wrong with a plane due to computer malfunction than things that will when you have an experience, aware pilot behind the yoke. Computers are ruining aviation as a whole and turning flight into a sit at a desk job, and slowly deteriorating a pilot's ability to ACTUALLY FLY.

  • @roggerfrogger2 They did, after this crash. I bet they didn't have the technology to do it back then.

  • Flaps are for wimps.

  • Human Error if there ever was one...

  • Comment removed

  • I live by that airport. Yup, guess who's not getting on a plane any time in my life? You betcha.

  • Fail

  • @FridaLaReina

Kind of Spanish Air Safety Authority (CIAIAC) made an official statement after investigation of 5022 crash (don't know if it's over though).

Seen on TV some time ago, but no ACI episode so far (maybe it's yet to come). To be precise JK5022 was operated by MD82 (minor differences between MD80/81/82/83/88)

  • It's tragically ridiculous but years later (08.2008) exactly the same errors led to Spanair 5022 crash in Madrid (also MD80). TOWS fuse off, flaps retracted, taxi checklist omitted, additionally Spanair's aircraft had also faulty thrust reverser in left engine, which had been reported to maintenance services 3 days before...and they didn't fix it!!! Resulting in 154 dead (and 18 seriously injured). How the hell could it happen???

  • After an airplane lands, instead of retracting the flaps all the way, wouldn't it be safer if the flaps were retracted to the take-off position? I mean, the next possible thing an aircraft will do is take off.

  • National Transportation Safety Board...the FDR box

  • NO THE NTSB IS THE NTSB PERIOD....... The investigate ACCIDENTS !!!! Planes Trains and Automobiles.. the have Ares of specialization but its all the NTSB..... Completely Autonomous and answerable only to the victims They are not bought nor paid for UNLIKE THE FAA and or the transportation or Insurance Industry, the only thing the NTSB WANTS IS THE TRUTH of WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE WHY AND HOW THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED NO POLITICS OR BULLSHIT INVOLVED!!!!

  • To add that on the NTSB bit the UK's is called the AAIB the Australian one is CASA , and there are various others throughout the world they are 95% connected to the countries aviation authority , IE the UK AAIB is connected to the CAA and the austrailan one is connected to the NAA and the US one spilt into many different area's.

  • @famousstronger Really easy to get distracted from what you are doing when there is a lot going on in the cockpit.

  • "god on her side" ....keep the god away from this...i guess the others desirved...freaking morons...keep the god away from this!

  • @01Gens

If you don't believe in god thats fine, I'm not going to piss all over you heck I don't give two craps who you believe in. However this person did, this person does think this girl is special and god wanted her to live, so don't piss all over his belief.

  • Who the heck forgets the flaps anyway? I'd feel safer flying with a blind pilot than this guy. (Yes it was a horrible event but forgetting to set the flaps is just stupid)

  • 'We will be rolling in a few minutes' Oh the irony....

  • I was supposed to be on this flight. I was visiting my grandparents in Michigan and was supposed to return home to Phoenix to start the new school year (was 10 at the time). I was to fly home alone (which I did routinely) and my Grandmother decided she didn't want me to get into Phoenix late at night and have to find my parents that late into the evening. Thanks for her I'm here today because she changed my flight to the morning. I still remember seeing the wreckage driving to the airport.

  • @Itsdaltonmiller You'r lucky Dude ! ! !

  • @Itsdaltonmiller good thing you changed flights :)

  • @Itsdaltonmiller GOD BLESS YOU! <3

  • @Itsdaltonmiller hmmm..interesting

the lord works in mysterious ways my friend

  • @Itsdaltonmiller this accident happened again with the Span air crash in Madrid. same aircraft model same mistake.

  • @Itsdaltonmiller

how do we know you are not just saying that!

    Give us some decent proof

  • omg the 4 year old is lucky god bless her

  • poor little girl. thanks to God, she survived, but why not even more than her!? and God know why! how ever it is not His (God's) fault to all those deaths! i think that this was accident! maybe they (pilots) were too tired to think clearly and maybe they were not have had best education, good maybe, but not the best!?

  • @WHITECHILD2 so sad

  • maybe they were too tired!?

  • annoying voice! but you shouldn't be so childish or stupid to act like meny pilots does! you should just fly with your instrument where there annoying voices on the cocpit or not! what is normal is, if you put off one or more portant small things, then you might risk hole flying too much, playing dangerous game/games, like in this case!

  • checklists should be as locick (as simple) as they can be in every plane and airline! if there is too many checklist or those are too difficult to understand, then pilots might try to learn them that they doesn't need to use them and making them simpiier by themselfs in their heads (that those lists might be so annoying and/or warning voice/s)! also we might come so proud about ourselfs and knowing everything about flying etc that we act more or less stupid, like childish and make mistake/s!

  • @WHITECHILD2 god sucks.

  • If they just followed procedures. :/

  • the plane just hit 1 lamp post,,,and the wing was cut off,,,but the apparent plane which hit the pentagon,,,manege to pull out of the ground 5 posts,,,,and not a bit of wing was found,,,,,not the engines,or wing section particularity the tail piece;;;and not a mark on the grass,,,,it was a missile 9:11 was an inside job re investigate 9/11

  • dude thanks for uploading, you're awesome

  • The girl who survived will be 27 now.

  • @1991tomwarren LMFAO.

  • @1991tomwarren 24 actually

  • @adityadg7890 She was already 4 years old in 1987. Nowdays end of 2011, do ur math again actually.

  • @1991tomwarren

Cecelia is now married and earned a Psychology degree from the University of Alabama.

  • 45:24 - OMG ! "...Drake went on to investigate 100s of accidents over a 26 years career ......."--- Does this mean 100 accidents took place in 26 years or did he do 100 case studies in 26 years ? Wonder how many accidents take place every year....

  • @acancalan A lot. Check NTSB's site: ntsb.gov/aviationquery/month.aspx

  • The computer was not in "Take Off" mode because the flaps were retracted. Is it ?

  • what does NTSB stand for? need to search for box?

  • @7byseven Are you seriously? It stands for National Transportation Safety Board... If you wonder more about them, look at wikipedia...

  • @Henoik They even says what it stays for in the episode...

  • 3C? As in 3 center? How many rwys are there on that airport?

  • @Henoik 4 runways

  • 4 runways one brand new 3 terminals one brand new a GA parking area on the east side for small pistion aircraff like cessna 172's and privet jets and and new interchange routs from the near by i-75

  • 07:02 it stalls... I think... I paused the video just to post the comment :D

  • @Henoik Ok... It didnt

  • I wouldnt be on that plane...

  • Is that girl the only survivor?? Thats nearly worse than no survivors at all...

  • Why are they called black boxes when I have never ever seen a BLACK black box...? Haha.... But black is not the most happy colour... SO its maybe because of that???

  • @Henoik They are orange instead because it is easier to find instead of black.

  • today thay have 6 runways the center one is next to the new terminal and the east right runway next to the GA area and the new far west lift runway paved in 2000

  • @hdyudu

I've driven past that a bizillion times.

  • 3400 g's??? THATS MUCH 12:51

  • anything past 15 g's is risky and could turn into a death sentence just even 8 g's is enuff

to sricken off blood flow to the brain aka as black out

  • @Henoik Yeah!!! I was right!

  • @7byseven thumbs up

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board

  • @7byseven national transportation safety board

  • @7byseven Not Too Safe Bastards

  • @JohnTheUTuber lol jks its National Transport Safety Board

  • @7byseven DUDE thats awesome ! lol

  • @7byseven National Transportation Saftey Board

  • @7byseven National Transport Safety Board

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board

  • @7byseven NTSB stands for National Transportation Safety Board.

  • @7byseven National Transport Safety Board or use google next time

  • @7byseven

National Transportation Safety Board. The box tells investigators what was said during the accident and what the plane was flying (altitude/speed/etc.).

  • @7byseven Thats a joke! NTSB means national transportation safety board

  • @7byseven

I'm sure the families of any airline tragedy would find your comment despicable. I hope no one in your family ever suffers the same loss. You should be ashamed of your comment. Apparently this tragedy is a joke for you.

  • @chiquidean I think those families would be slightly more intelligent and agree that If I joked about the police it would be a joke about the police only and not mean that I am disrespectful and laughing at everyone who gets stabbed, shot, strangled, raped, robbed, kidnapped, beaten up, run over.

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) (i hope that is spelled correctly)

and the boxes are the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) < --- hope i helped :)

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board.

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board

  • @7byseven Blak box, which are actually orange, tells what all was said during flight and tells what the instruments was doing during flight

  • @7byseven national treansportation safety board

  • Comment removed

  • @7byseven listen carefully at 10:59

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board i think...

  • @7byseven NTSB stands for National Transportation Safety Board

  • @7byseven National Transportation Safety Board.

  • If I was there, I would've used Flak Jacket

  • That's a really nasty accident!

  • cool

  • U.S Airways CURRENT LIVERY.... Hardly the 80's. 3:39

  • I don't unterstand what you're saying. I said that statistically there have been much more plane crashes involving md80 s and dc-10/11 than Boeing and Airbus I wasn't talking about the episodes ACI decides to air, look it up on wikipedia! Just tonight I watched another ACI episode about air Alaska that dove into the ocean, and yea you guessed it the plane was an md-80!

  • Comment removed

  • i would had died.....

  • it took me four days to hitchhike from saginaw and i've come to look for america

  • These planes are operating very safely these days.

  • Thanks for the upload! Basically every plane crash involves either a dc-10 or md-80! Very little Boeing or airbus crashes compared to the above.

  • @BRUCEBAUM45 My thought is that it is easier to make conjecture about a company that is out of business. If you badmouth Airbus or Boeing and get it wrong on a worldwide tv show you might get sued a little more quickly.

  • Many thanks for the upload.

  • Thank you =)
