If only this guys from iRacing were using Phyre/EGO, CryEngine3, Chrome Engine 4, or either Unreal Engine 3....The graphic capabilities would be really far beyond that..

But I'm not a physics expert, so maybe this engine they are using is more precise and effective to work with their physics engine...I don't really know, albeit OpenCL and Havok are an amazing duo for realistic physics simulation.

Darin and Shaun, you didnt mention that iRacing is actually a continous "beta" which probably never will be "ready" like Forza or Gran Turismo as its evolving continuously.

At 46:24, You can't seriously compare going to an actual track in real life with a car or a bike as something that can be substituted with a computer.

Yes, going to the track is more expensive but its the same difference in going to the Ferrari factory in real life vs watching a video of it.

If you want to race online, iRacing is outstanding! And lot's of people to race with online in practice sessions. Practice sessions can be almost as much fun as races.

@ theranster9 does that mean flight sims need to have cabin crew pushing their trolleys down the aisles? passengers spewing into pukebags? the emphasis is on flying. I'm sure we'll be seeing it soon enough though, as with the AI! Bring on the f1 cars and calender, I'll be investing as soon as the have more road tracks

wow, what a fantastic review! The only thing I would disagree on is the forcefeed back. But let me clarify my comment. There are moments when you hit giant curbs at a angle that the car jumps around, but you can not feel a thing in the wheel. I would rate ffb at only average.

I am amazed at how BAD GTR2 looks. I have not played that arcader but it looks terrible in the video. the cars keep sinking through the track!

GTR2 is not an arcade racer. Yes, the graphics are dated and the sinking you're seeing is the lacking (IMO) netcode, but it is not an arcade racer.

DiRT 2 is nice, but it is really sensitive to viruses, if one virus gets on your pc, DiRT wont run anymore.

But yeah, RBR + DiRT2 Grapihics = The Ultimate game.

You'll probably get a copy of Dirt 2 included with your 5870 (I did with my 5850, even though it wasn't advertised as having one) so it's moot really, you'll see what it's like.

Re: A.I. in iRacing. At first I was like, "real life doesnt have A.I. on the track, wheres the realism in ghost cars?" but with you guys demonstrating the practical function of drafting testing and fps testing it would be of huge benefit to use it in that context. Racing, however, well, ask a Call of Duty player if they play single player offline and you'll see why A.I. is only target practice.

There is no A.I. in real life but this isn't real life, it's a game. There are certain aspects that you want to be realistic and some things that make the game a good game, like A.I.

They are far better than DiRT 1 , if thats what you mean, if your were going to buy it as a full on pc sim, you will be a bit dissapointed, but as a semi - realistic fun game, its fantastic. :D

I agree. The control is MUCH better than TOCA 3, DiRT, and GRID. I couldn't fully enjoy the earlier games because of this. DiRT 2 rocks!

It's no sim that's for sure. It's fun but nothing compared to Richard Burns Rally.

The physics engine is most probably capable of it, but Codemasters just refuse to add a sim difficulty level with realistic physics. The cards are mainly just too light so I'd expect some modding could make it alot better.

What he said. iRacing's goal is absolute realism. The amount of work and effort that goes into each track is unbelievable. The first time you pull out on a track, that work and effort pays off big time. Well worth the cost, IMO.

Realism might be their long-term objective, but it's undeniable that the focus in the past 2 years was put on profit and commercialism. Players, despite paying such high subscription fees for content and access, are literally the guinea pigs for what still seems to be a sim in beta testing. The amount of patches being released is a proof to that. We'll see how it goes in the near future though.

Gonna have to disagree with that because that statement is flawed. The plan iRacing have is build and update the sim for a 10 year period, there will not be a final version any time soon because of the constant updates. Your basing your comment on traditional games/sims where you buy a boxed version and then buy a new/updated version another year or so later.
