Greg, you've got me in a real conundrum. First, you make me want a new amp like the Retro-King or the Tungsten Crema Wheat in the worst way, but then knowing I'll never have 1/10th of your chops makes me not want to ever pick up a guitar again! In all seriousness, your demos are more inspiring than most live shows I've been to in recent years. Brilliant, man!
@zumajim Thank you very much! I appreciate the good words, but I'll never be able to sound like YOU and that's the beauty of art, we all carry something individual and unique within our hearts and soul.
Greg you are by far my favorite amp reviewer! Which of the RetroKing's (18w or BB) would you prefer? Also, I love you playing style! Any chance you would consider doing a (video) lesson (or more ;) on some of those riffs you use during your reviews?
@EZrebel Thank you! I'm not a schooled player so not sure how I'd explain my playing. They're both great amps and serve different colors/textures. In general I like lower wattage amps turned up but even 18 watts can be loud, however the BB is great for that classic iconic tone.
Is this the stock amp with the only additional option being the negative feedback loop, or does it have some of the other mods, such as the Mercury Magnetics output transformer? I'm thinking of getting one of these, but not sure which mods to get. I'll mainly use it for recording, and like to keep the overall volume under 100dB at 3ft.
greg is a nocaster a strictly special order or reissue or is it part of the regular fender line? thanx what is the main diff between the no caster and regular telecastor..
i was going to get either a G&L or an Anderson tele-style how do they compare to your nocastor? thanx again for any help. your playing is inspiring..
I little bit mushy to me...is this inherent of the JTM45 circuit and tube rectifier or is alot of this attributed to the alnico Gold's? I've tried the Gold's with my current rig and didn't care for them...just curious.
i dont know if its the sm7b being too close to the amp, or the tubes breaking up so much but this thing doesnt sound so hot when overdriven. Cleans cant be bragged about either. ill stick to my two rock jet.
Incredible as always Greg, although I am a little surprised you chose not to demo any Beano type tones, especially considering the amp. Anyway, your playing always inspires me!
Which Retro King do you personally prefer, the 45 or 18?
Oh my that is some of the best Plexi tone I've ever heard! Yet another KILLER demo Greg! This amp sounds fantastic with single-coils and humbuckers. A wonderful blend of tones. Great job! Best, Trina
Wonderful as usual Greg. I really like the selection of guitars you're using now too. A great cross-section of single coil solid body, humbucking solid body and semi tones....although I think someone should talk Hamer into building a Tally with a Bigsby!
Great Demo, warm tones and inherent natural presence coming through with all three guitars...as always the dynamics of your playing showcases the amp's character ! thanks...
great tone and playing. How far away was the room mic placed from the amp and was it raised above the amp or in line with the speaker?

@tanukibrahma As far as I remember it's the stock amp with details listed in the video. I'd recommend contacting Retro-King for more info.

@jamisonb162 Part of the JTM45 circuit beauty is the sag/compression, alnicos have a nice bloom as well.
