Regulation CREATED this problem. Fannie and Freddie were CREATED by the Federal government and given an implicit bailout guarantee. The Fed had interest rates WAY too low and generous tax incentives got people into market who should have stayed away.

I've seen Tea Party people complain about bank bailouts one day, then more Tea Partiers complaining that the government is making it difficult for the banks to do business by planning to regulate the derivatives market or planning a windfall tax on bank bonuses from places that got bailed out the next. The biggest difference I think between OWS and the original Tea Party (which did have some people mad at the banks and bailouts) is that the solution being offered by the Tea Party, namely less government and less regulation is fairly unrealistic. The biggest causes of the crash were: 1. removing financial regulations like Glass-Steagle act, financial leverage and restrictions on risky financial trading and speculation and

Removing the regulators will only make it easier for the banks and financial institutions to continue risky and fraudulent practices. The free market ideology won't work when so many large banks have the same bad business practices.

I was a Tea Party member when the movement first started. Then they sort of morphed into this super-conservative mess of evangelical fear mongers who basically just hated Obama. So I pissed on all that.

The Tea Party definitely got sucked up by neo-conservatives and of course those guys are complete zombies of Fox News and conservative talk radio. OWS is being sucked up by the left wing socialists who have helped to create this financial crisis.
What should be protested is the Federal Reserve and the government system that allows big corporations to pay them off to bend the rules in their favor but i'm not hearing a lot of that from the videos I've seen on it. Mostly they are just socialists.

IMO the neoconservatives, Fox News, conservative talk radio, etc...are zombies to the big 'zombie' banks that comprise the Federal Reserve. The Fed is the big pimp daddy in the middle of it all. "Co-opted by Fox News"? That's quite absurd -- on its own. Can you say that the Occupy Wall Street was co-opted by... Baskin-Robbins, or some other group/corporation that jumped on to the bandwagon? Furthermore there are two main factions within the Tea Party - libertarians and smaller-government-but-war-loving republicans - none of which can be "claimed" by Fox News.

The Tea Party co-opted by Fox News??... That's kind of ridiculous, Fox News and the Republican establishment are funded by the same big corporations and special interests that much of the Democratic establishment is funded by. Two sides to the same coin, but give the appearance that you're giving people a choice. Ultimately movements are co-opted and watered down so they become irrelevant. And it's being attempted on OWS too, just like what happened to the Tea Party.
