maybe he's so concentrate on the form and the precision that he forget the strength and the speed. but it's just some kind of kata and i dunno anything about iai-do (...a little let's say) so don't read my comment, it's just to post something
Actualy, when using a katana, strenght is your worst enemy, because a too strong attack causes the blade to remian stuck in your opponent's bones, and you cannot fight anymore. the Katana is made for sliceing, not hacking. Speed is essential, but only in specific moments. you have to "build up speed" by staying motionless. This allows you to perform extremely rapid movements in between "slow" movements.
