Just because a planet has oxygen and the right chemicals for life as we know doesn`t mean that life would develop \like ours. Many other factors could make it hard for us to breathe, live there, e.g. gravity, atmospheric pressure. We may not be able to live there. We may still need suits to visit (and maybe investigate life there)
I agree with you there. It pisses me off how ignorant scientists are thinking that life develops just like ours and it must be in the habitable zone and all that bullshit.
big question, does it have oxygen? I want to see a pandora like planet out there... but one where we're not foolish enough to do what they did in that film avatar... i always think it'd be funny if there was anothe rplanet out there watching us and discovering things on our planet. :P
if d is a waterworld, they say the winds could stir up the constantly moving oceans and with no land disrupt the water, the waves could reach hundreds of feet high. sounds very cool.
i agree with you, but im not ready to give up on us our Earth. I believe we are capable of living without taking from our planet. it just so happens our ancestors discovered the internal combustion engine, burning coal and fossil fuels for energy and we built off that because thats what we do. now we just need something else to replace fossil fuels in general or find a way to use many smaller energy sources- hydrogen, solar energy, wind power and so forth. we can do it!
:) Me too.... but nothing like what would happen in Avatar the film... that was just BAD. we should try make mars better for life first... and yes, i wish i was born a lot later than now when the Earth is safe and global warming is figured out, and we've got other life on Mars too... :-/
globle warming is bullshit. 10000 years ago the earth was 85% coverd in ice, and now people are starting to notice the ice is meltin.only the arrogance of man leads him to belive that we have a profound effect on a planet that has survived billons of years on its own.a valcano at one time puts more greenhouse gasses in to the atmosphere then all the cars in the word in a year, we will distroy ourselves long before this planet dies, and long befor we leave this planet for that matter.
@adonyz666 moron..and if you get ther and find out you a fkn looser on that planet too.. then what.. lol. funny how loosers of this world think and wish they could find a planet where they might fit in.... try the island of misfits..
Our own planet is in bad shape. We need to keep focus on taking care of it first! But finding a way to get off of it just in case wouldnt hurt either. Hope we're not to late!
I belive there is some lifeform. ja...who want to know how many m. is 20 light years: 300 000 km per s. is velocity. (c). 1 earth year has 365,25 days. thats 24x3600x365,25 s = 31557600 s. The distance of light in 1 earth year is now: 300 000km/s x 31557600s = 9,46728x10^12 km. (now we have a distance of light in 1 year in kilometre) For Gliese 581e thats; 20 x 946728x10^12km =1,893456x10^19 km! thats 1,9x10^22 m.
actually i just got done watching a video of FOX news covering the story...(yea i know FOX news..who would of thought!)..but they are just covering the story now and it was discovered nearly 2 years ago!
I haven't heard absolutley SHIT about this on the MS news media(CNN,ABC,CBS,NBC,MSNBC,PBS & C-SPAN) about this story, more cover-up I see, this should be big news, a day after the X-Conference 2009 very suspicious.
if light travels at 300 000 000 meters per second. find out how many seconds are in 20 years (lol), then multiply that number by 300 000 000, and you'll get how many meters away it is (lol once again).
then take the distance you found and divide by the speed of the fastest shuttle or whatever the fuck, and you'll have the "real time it would take to reach it".
I dont care if its closer to the sun, that means i'll have a nice tan & theres a HUGE ocean on it so if I get too hot Ill just jump on in there. Cool Im going. :)
But it doesn't write the probability of life either because it's very far away so there is no way to no for sure.

it says 26 years from here! wtf!

It says 20.4 lightyears from here. That's about 190 trillion miles.

Kind of funny because it was found one day after 4/20 and 20.4 lightyears away. Somethings going on...

no, it says 20 light years.

so no, it's not 26 years away.
