  • Even though I know nothing about this ride, but I'm guessing that the real coaster used 8-seater cars like most wooden coasters made in the 20's.

  • Nice ride.

  • But I'm talking about river view park in Montgomery Illinois.

  • I live right next to where river view park used to be I wish it was still there I would go every day my grandma wrote a book about it it was made in 1899 distroyed in 1926 then it became a railway. Haha I know all this stuff I'm only 12:) haha

  • John Miller Designer? maybe hes from Saving Pvt Ryan

  • How do you make those wooden beams on the coaster?

  • @MERC3NARYPRODUCTIONS

In the No Limits Editor for a New Track....under the "Coaster" tab on the top menu bar, select "Settings" and then Select "Coaster Type" tab. Scroll down and highlight the Wooden Coaster (6 seat) style

  • There will never be another Riverview. Adventureland doesn't even compare! Those were the old ole days!

  • well the dragons nice but still riverview was perfect

  • Seriously? The dragon is a piece of shit! Why does eveyone like it? The Outlaw and the Tornado are the best rides there.

  • yeah i love the tornado but not the outlaw, i think it jerks around too much

  • Very Awesome Video..I remember Riverview and have very fond memories going there with my late mother..I was a brat and cried when we had to leave..I was very saddened that it went away. I remember the Haunted House had a skeleton playing a piano in the window and you rode through the haunted house in these black scary two-three person coaches.

  • this ride is so fune... its called the tornado at adventureland... been there everysummer for 17 years...

  • This was the best , my friend and I rode that coaster 13 times in a row finally the attendant let us go the 14th time free! We were 10 yrs old .

  • (cont.) As you walk around parts of Fairgrounds, south of Grand Avenue, you can still see in spots occasional parts of the old tracks exposed underneath worn away asphalt where it was buried. Its a shame they dont have that train anymore,if not for use,but on display near the State Fair Museum on the east end of Grand Avenue.

  • Both of my parents worked at the Des Moines Register & Tribune newspaper, they had the company picnics there every June, right after school recessed for the summer. That was a great time, the Giant Slide especially (which has been permanently located near SW part of Iowa State Fairgrounds for over 25 yrs now). The narrow gauge Rock Island coal-fired train that hauled us kids around was moved to the Fairground also, complete with tracks.Several years ago its use was discontinued. (cont.)

  • Awesome.I remember spending lots of my summer vacation at Riverview Park growing up.Still remember the story about the Wild Mouse going off the track on a turn & 2 cars ending up in the Des Moines River.Never knew if it was true or just another urban legend.

  • A group of people should get together, and rebuild Riverview Park in every detail! It would really add to the clean up of Highland Park.

  • Unbelievable digital recreation. How long did it take to make this video? Amazing talent you have!

  • Paul sent us the working digital file of the coaster about 5 weeks after we had sent to him the information and old photos of Riverview's coaster. He created it in his spare time. It is only one of many lost coasters he has brought back to life with such accuracy.

  • This was the best amusement park. I remember this ride as if it were yesterday.

  • I have been on this coaster many times. At night I could hear the roar all the way to my home. I could hear the screams of the riders as they held on for dear life! Both my husband and I could remember every turn and dip as we rode once again in the front seat. We loved it! Firestone Tire & Rubber used to hold employee picnics there. My father & mother rode this coaster 75 years ago. Dad got kicked off for riding standing up! He was ornery. I only worked up the nerve to ride with no hands!

  • Raised at Riverview part, lot of picnics and riding the rides. Good family entertainment. So happy to find this video. Will archive this for future watching. Those were the good ole days. p.s. Also a good place to meet guys when in High School!!!

  • I used to enjoy going to Riverview with my family and on school field trips. This was a walk down memory lane. It was a great place to go as a kid and the recreation is incredible. I will have to check to see if there is one for the Wild Mouse ride now!!!!

  • Cool! I moved to Des Moines right after Riverview closed down. Now I can say I saw the old coaster. Thank you for this video, it was a real public service :-)

  • I live in Atlanta GA now and appreciate the ride as I remember every drop & turn. As a 50 yo it is great to go back in my minde and once again enjoy as a boy - thank you!

  • The Coaster was designed by John Miller and built in 1920. Original name was The Aeroplane coaster

  • If I'm not mistaken, this rollercoaster was moved out to Adventureland when it was built. It's now called the Tornado.

  • What Adventureland?

  • Adventureland Amusement Park in Altoona, Iowa. Riverview sold the coaster to them when they were building it.

  • What year was this coaster designed? And by who? I don't know if it was Schmeck, Miller, Vettel, ...??

  • You're mistaken. The Tornado is a different coaster. The Riverview Coaster was still standing, but not operational, after Adventureland opened.

  • Great Video! Dad took me there all the time. Remember the Cuddle Up (souped up version of the Tea Cups),and what about the smart animals that would do stuff when coin deposited, all I remember is the chicken played the piano. The Dodgem Cars,Speed Boat in the lagoon, all great memories. Thanks for the Coaster ride

  • OMG!, this is so cool. This is like going back in time. I was 14 years old when I first rode it. Thank you for making this.

  • From our house you could hear the Bug at night (I think it's also called the Himalaya but we called it the bug for some reason) Riverview was so exciting for us, partly because we didn't get to go too often. Those sure were simpler times, weren't they?

  • I remember the Himalaya, they ran that sucker soo fast and the disco music..I remember the song Bad Bad Leroy Brown being played and a hippi looking dude on a microphone going YOUSA YOUSA YOUSA LOL

  • i dont remember it. actually i dont even know what they had back then, but wat i do know is, people back then were niceer and more respectful. dont we all wish that ride was still there today, cuz if it was, then i would ride it like 50 times a day lol

  • I still ride the bike trail that goes around the edge of Riverview trying to summon the old memories.

  • WOW this brings back memories.I lived blocks away from Riverview when growing up... It was great fun. In the summer you could hear the roller coaster, the Tunnel of Love, the Wild Mouse, the kids screaming the train bell, I miss that. SO many memories. I still live in the neighborhood...Clarkson Elementary, McHenry Park (remember the old fire truck - painting ceramics, playing ping pong, shooting carom, playing tetherball?), sledding the hills of McHenry in the winter...it was great fun!!

  • Seems like old times. The wooden supports creaked. The hammer and weight which rang a

bell @ 100 got a prize. The guys from the

draft board used to hang around in early '50

    looking for recruits

  • that is cool. i'm too young to remember it, but my mother & her sisters talk about it all the time. i know the general area, the back path along the river goes by there if i remember correctly. thanks for sharing.

  • I went to Riverview as a small child as did my mother. I passed it a few times as a teen while bike riding along the trail.

Adventureland took over as the new theme park and many old rides and momento's are still at Adventureland today.

The super screamer and the old train ride coaster came from Rivervew.

  • Highland Park Hardware 3613 6th Ave has a series of four coffee mugs to celebrate Riverview park, I was told the profits are to go towards preserving the history and setting up something at the site which is now a public park.

  • Incredible! I went to Riverview when I was a kid, but I was really young, and barely remember it. I Remember getting really freaked out in the haunted house they had. Ah, nostalgia!

  • Remember that skeleton in the window playing the piano? And those cool scary black coaches you road in that looked like a mini hearse, once the locked the bar across you it was like you were going into a real haunted house lol

  • I worked at Riverview Park in the summers of my High School years. I worked in the concession stand right next to the coaster. I rode that coaster many, many times, The guys that ran the coaster became great friends. Most of all I remember Fred who took the tickets. He always smoked a cigar. He was a very cool guy.

  • Riverview was on the northside next to the river.

  • Where was riverview? Is that where adventureland sits now?

  • Wow... that used to be in our hometown? What happened to it?

  • Riverview was purchased and closed by a new theme park in the area and the coaster was torn down in 1979

  • thats amazing thats fanominal awesome job!

  • looks cool
