Anyone who knows their tech history knows that Apple and Microsoft worked together in the mid 70's... And Microsoft did the first PC coding for apple... but who invented that coding??? That's right people. Apple did!!!
@MrMusicalee WHO TOLD U THAT?!? 1st of all, it wasn't just Microsoft vs. Apple as a "Clash of the Titans" there were also Digital Research Inc. (led by Gary Kildall). & Kildall was the developer of the 1st Operating Sys. to interest IBM; it wasn't like in "Pirates of Silicone Valley" where Bill Gates & Paul Allen approached IBM outta the blue & sold them on DOS before he even got it & after Kildall blew-off his meeting w/ IBM to fly is Piper Cub, a Frustrated IBM, approached Bill Gates...
@IMaDEM0N BUT the Xerox PARC Facility developed the GUI under US Government Grant money & they produced "the Alto", they presented it to the Presidents, Heads of Sales, Production Manages & Financial Brass (the true HEADS of Xerox) & ALL OF THEM JUST HATED IT (which is why you still, to this day see like 8x8 keyboards kind of like what's on a touch-tone telephone & put info into a little LCD Screen & some Touch-Screen stuff over the years) & THAT'S ALL SAYING NOTHING ABOUT Tandy/Radio Shack....
I heard about the uncle xerox line in steve jobs biography and though it was the best line in the whole book, they fucked it up in this movie .....that line should of been epic and gates should of been calm and collected.
Apple is the 2nd biggest company. Apple has about 80 billion dollars laying around doing nothing. Apple makes more money than MS every quarter. Yeah, apple won.
I like Windows, Mac, and Linux, but for slightly different reasons. These companies are not churches people. There's no point in being assholes about your individual preferences.
IT'S ALL CRAP!! stuff like the Mouse Technology & that kind of GUI (or Graphic User Interface) was all developed by Xerox with Government Grant Money they were given & when the engineers presented this stuff to Xerox, they essentially were like "WTF are we gonna do w/ this *Mouse* & *GUI* Hocus-Pocus & it's gonna make shit just TOO complicated & then Apple Stole it where it first showed up on the Apple Lisa (named after Steve Jobs' Daughter Lisa...)
stole, bought- still wasn't apple's idea for that type of interface, which people seem to think they're credited for. before that they had apple dos which sucked balls compared to microsoft's dos
@cforcalvin We're talking about the GUI not DOS. It was Xerox idea developed at PARC. Jobs and Co. went back to HQ and developed the ideas with Xerox's permission.
Microsoft railroaded John Sculley into signing a relatively weak document pertaining to the licensing of elements of the GUI because the (Microsoft) Applesoft BASIC licence was up for renewal. As the Apple II was still the cash cow for Apple at the time, what would the company do?
Also, Apple licensed elements of the GUI from Xerox technically in a share swap (Xerox invested about $1,000,000 in Apple) - which lessened the validity of the Xerox lawsuit direct at Apple in the late '80s.
actually, that comment i wrote about Microsoft starting in the mid eighties was wrong, Microsoft started about a year before apple, but however, windows started after mac OS...
Guys, I was privileged to work for a big oil company in 1979 when they beta'd the Xerox Star on our corporate IT floor. The whole shebang - workstations, file servers, print servers, laser printers, Smalltalk, all connected by thick Ethernet. It was mindblowing for the time. Xerox had our company, and the individual users sign NDAs. So, to think Xerox didn't care about their insanely advanced IP is nuts. They knew what they had and knew it needed protection.
@FRURMELLL you are wrong, that is all i have to say. Every thing you just said, was all wrong, that is probably because you have no idea what you just said, you can't just say something, a stupid opinion and pretend it's the truth...
@FRURMELLL i hope "the rest of the products" doesn't include macbook air, the functionless toy they call the ipad, or ipods- which are completely overrated. they've made way better mp3 players in korea
windows doesn't make hardware. its mac who makes overpriced hardware, i think you mixed it up
Microsoft WROTE MS-DOS, Apple never "stole" it, Apple never bought Xerox, and Microsoft never stole Xerox.
Apple worked upon Xerox's GUI idea and made improvements to it (like creating the menu bar, etc.), MICROSOFT STOLE IT ALL FROM APPLE and now people are walking around thinking Microsoft invented the computer.
And I'm a Linux user too. But I like Macs a little better.
@Ffiti2 lol, so when Apple copies an idea, its called "working upon" and "improving". when microsoft copies an idea its called stealing. and no, people don't walk around thinking microsoft invented anything- the media has completely branded microsoft as a bully. people walk around and think macs are the best computers cuz they're made of aluminum and glass and sht.
being a linux user, of course you see how big a nazi Apple is- putting the lockdown on everything. long live open source.
this is one of my favorite movies so ok we know that microsoft has stolen alot of things but apple also stole some things to. they tried to steal the tv set. but microsoft got it first. apple got graphics. so did microsoft. i dont think its stealing (in my opinion) i think its just simple copying.
Bill Gates has always been slimy, and yet now funds the largest, best secular charity in the world. Steve Jobs is a huge, pretentious, smug asshole, and always has been. Food for thought.
Yeah, nothing like being forced to buy a whole new computer instead of just upgrading your existing one for far less money. Apple=overpriced fashion statement.
get real ya both ripped of XEROX PARC...and in 20 years time neither pc or mac arguments will be around, its like the 1980's where ya had arguments on the commodore 64 and the Sinclair zx spectrum 48 no one cares anymore. if you have time to argue about my pc is better than your mac and vis versa get a life and see the real problems of the world....or just get laid.. u need it;)
Microsoft basically stole the entire concept of a GUI, every idea from drop down menus, icons, drag and drop, hell even desktop windowing, the use of a mouse, a start menu, file previewing, transparency, they stole widgets and called them gadgets, dashboard and called it sidebar etc.... Microsoft has never came up with a creative idea on their own ,they steal other peoples ideas and use business and marketing to shove them down our throats and make them theirs
@bobbytomorow Apple stole the ideas from xerox they toyed with it and made it better, Microsoft came along said fuck you Steve jobs and stole it too. Apple didn't create the GUI they stole the entire concept of it well technically they didn't steal it cause they changed it but so did bill gates he took apple's OS and changed it a bit.....and from this movie it looks like Steve deserved it and Bill Gates was the smartarse and won haha i think its quite funny what microsoft did.
@Wanted797 dude you are 18 years old. you must be a lucky guy to have all of this inside knowledge at only 18....or read a lot of wiki pages. either way dont be trying to kick knowledge son
@bobbytomorow hahah don't you mean Microsoft and Apple - Apple did not create the ipod or the technology for pinching on the iphone, fanboys believe they did...do a search for Fingerworks and the father of the ipod then grow up. Neither company has truly been innovative and creative, they have done good business thats all nothing more.
Yep, it's your opinion, based on inverted snobbery. I use macs because they work better. End of story. Why not make a list of things pcs can do better than macs and post it?
Apple did not STEAL anything. Xerox Parc openly showed them the technology and allowed Apple to use the concept. This was developed by Xerox Parc as research and Xerox had no intentions market it. Also, although Apple got the idea/concept of a graphical interface and mouse from Xerox, they did not use the same interface design that the Xerox software used. Apple's design was much simpler. Microsoft on the other hand copied Apple's same design behind Apple's back. Therefore Microsoft IS the theif
Years later, while Apple was suing Microsoft, Xerox tried to sue Apple. However the agreement between Xerox and Apple was different. Parc wikipidia: "Xerox was given Apple stock in exchange for engineer visits and an understanding that Apple would create a GUI product."
You have to remember at the time this was not something known to the public. Apple was shown how the technology works, not just a finished product, with permission to use it. MS was shown what they needed to develop software.
The agreement with Microsoft was to develop the software only. Apple paid Xerox for the use of the technology and had permission. Microsoft did NOT pay Xerox or Apple nor did they have permission. And the only thing in common with the Xerox system was the fact that it was a GUI, but the interface itself was completely different. Where as MS copied almost the exact same interface Apple had. Xerox only decided to sue years later as an afterthought b/c they were upset over their own lack of foresit
xerox lost the law suit because they had an agreement with apple? funny, windows won their lawsuit for the same reason. It is very simple, if windows stole anything they would have lost the lawsuit.
wikipidia is not the end all of information, it is a user based information site, which means it can be filled with lies.
so i guess parc also gave apple permission to copy the mouse? sony gave apple permission to copy the mp3 player? lg gave apple permission to copy the touch screen phone?
Unfortunately, it is lot more complicated than whether or not you win or lose a law suit. You can win a law suit and still be wrong or vice versa. I have done much research on the beginnings of the PC industry back in the day. Wikipedia is not the first source I heard this from, just happened to be the one I sited here. MS has done this to a LOT of companies, not just Apple. And there have been FAR TOO MANY suits against MS to count.
Most tech companies agree that Microsoft does not play fair. They trick other companies. They back stab. They exploit legal loop holes. They've stolen from many companies, not just Apple. They steal from small companies that cannot match Microsoft's same legal resources, and therefore do not have a leg to stand on to defend themselves. (I'm not talking about when it was Apple vs Microsoft.) MS is big enough to do wrong and get away with it because of their lawyers.
@noahrobd2 microsoft BUYS tons of companies per year, and folds their code and technology into existing products or puts out a new product with a microsoft badge on it. not really stealing. and as for this scene, apple "stle" the gui concept from xerox before ms "stole" it from them.... apple markets to people who want to feel liek they are joining an exclusive club; microsoft markets to EVERYBODY
MS didn't have those resources back then. Apple was the big dog. I think the Xerox statement summed it up correctly. SJ did take the tech from Xerox, he just got pissed he got outplayed.
@noahrobd2 yes, its the same with almost every big company. infact apple included. especially in the 80's when apple stole from xerox and passed the interfaces off as their own. yea microsoft steals but they certainly are not the only one so dont be bitter about this apple fanboy
@noahrobd2 well what else would you expect to happen when a engineer with no creativity becomes the worlds most powerfull ceo , hes use to taking orders and accomplishing them ....when engineers have no one to boss them around they have no idea what to do with themselfs , so they copy.
just look at their ages, bill is older, made windows in college. jobs is younger, made macs in college. so obviously windows was made before the mac. heck all the programs available on the first commercially available macintosh was written by gates
@johnmonk66 "just look at their ages, bill is older, made windows in college. jobs is younger, made macs in college. so obviously windows was made before the mac. heck all the programs available on the first commercially available macintosh was written by gates"
Are you confusing DOS with Windows? Dos is a command line operating system DOS(Disk Operating System). Windows is a operating system notable for its GUI(Graphical User Interface).
Because M$ sold to the commodity PC market and just sold more licenses for PC OSes. than Apple. Chalk it up to the nebbish at IBM who didn't force M$ to sign and exclusivity agreement so that when the clone IBM PC was made by everyone else the OS money when to M$. Remember that BGs dad was a lawyer; he wasn't at the meeting with IBM NOT flying around in a plane.
itz not about money bill gates concept was softwae apple was everything. Apple is better than microsoft inovation wise and vision wise. Microsoft is good buisiness wise. Look at it this way ipod came expensive and rich htc pad came cheap. So in a way apple is better.
Apple got it from Xerox PARC after the concept was about to be shitcanned by Xerox executives. At presentations to Xerox upper management, the concept of a GUI and a mouse was met by guffaws and giggles and the whole idea was about to be tossed out. Apple took the idea and ran with it. It's no different from dumpster diving and turning what they got out of the dumpster and turning it into pure gold. Microsoft, however, stole ideas from Apple from Day 1 (Apple never discarded a thing).
The glaring problem with MS which the media ignores is that NOTHING that made it billions were invented by its employees. DOS can from another company, IE from UofChicago, Windows vis Apple/XeroxParc, all the office apps, word processing, spreadsheets, invented by outsiders, Xbox, copy of Nintendo, Zune, copy of IPod and the list goes on.
i hate it when everyones like im not gonna pay 2000 dollars for for a mac that has only 2 gig ram its so stupid mac doesnt need as much ram to run there programs
This sums it up pretty well. Jobs cares about making good stuff for people. But the people didn't want "greatness". They weren't ready to tell the difference. The majority of people took the crap clones and OS because they were cheaper. Jobs vision of the future wasn't quite right. Gates won because he knew people didn't care about quality as much as the novelty of saying: "I own a computer". I knew personally many of those people. They knew nothing about computers, but they had one.
do you own any of them? Apple designed their stuff for ease of use from the start. Everyone and their bro owns an ipod, not because they cost more, but because they are better. I have owned many pcs over the years and just a couple of macs and the macs are a much better design. smaller, faster, better looking.. Anyone can steal an idea from a company that has spend millons in research. Then they don't have the overhead and can undercut them in price. Apple has pioneered a lot of tech.
Sheer ownage, say what you will about Bill, the man doesn't fuck around. That whole analogy just blows my mind, now I can't stop thinking about Bill and Steve breaking into people's houses.
Congress deemed "data farming" unconstitutional yet the Justice Department diverted funds and implemented "Seiznet" anyway. ACLU, raised an immediate objection that was ignored. "Remote hackers and attackers" is the term used to pacify the brainwashed...... THINK! ..... In order to function, every piece of hardware/software must have a precise digital address.
Example: TFTP3828 written 10/22/01 5:15 PM Microsoft Corporation, Redmond Washington <---more commonly known as SPYBOT.
Mac vs. PC...it all depends on what you wanna do. PCs are made for Businesses...Macs are made for Homes. As much as anybody wants to argue this point..it all comes down to this one concept. Macs are the original Personal Computer..what people call "PCs" have their origins in Office Workstations tied to a Mainframe..supervised by an IT Staff. How many people have an IT Staff at home to supervise their PC??
in the 1990's every office i worked in had a mac, but we had pc's at home, you must be too young to remember mac was the most popular office computer for a long time. but because windows did so well in homes, people got used to windows and it took over the office too
one of the most unrealistic movies of all time to what REALLY happened behind closed doors. they tried to make steve jobs into this super cool young kid who MIGHT have dropped out of high school if he wasnt a genius. i like hte message of this movie, and its REALLY entertaining, but so unrealistic.
If it wouldn't be real... ¿don't you thing Bill Gates himself would be the first one to protest, and with his wealthness and power be able to demand those who made this film?
about Xerox... what happened is that they didn't want to share their development with Apple, but Xerox is just part of 3M, and 3M didn't had any interest on their ideas, so they didn't had any other option that take the offer from Apple, cause they saw them as pirates... but not because they stole to them, but by their background as hackers.. and yes, too many coud perceive it as Apple takeing advantage, and maybe they did, but legaly... not like Gates did with Mac.
oscar, oscar...I am a CSE with Xerox. First, Xerox has never been part of anyone including 3M. Xerox has partnered with 3M on certain technology developments, but that's it. It was Haloid, Haloid Xerox, and then just Xerox. Second...Apple gave Xerox a small amount of stocks in exchange for a handful of visits to Xerox PARC by Apple engineers. It was not so they could take the technology and claim it as their own. Xerox sued Apple for infringement. Due to the statute of limitations it was dropped
Steve Wozniak has publicily commented that it was pretty accurate and that video is on youtube. The actor that played Steve Jobs was on stage with the real Steve Jobs at a MacWorld convention discussing the movie. I'm sure that wouldn't have happened if Jobs didn't like the movie and thought it was wrong. It's fact that Bill Gates scammed IBM to proivde them DOS which he didn't have but bought it from someone else later. It's also fact that Microsoft didnt have a GUI and got it from the MAC.
In fact this movie is considered a kind of cocumentary, because it's based on the real facts. And there are a series of documentaries at Discovery Channel about Internet, and everybody, even the same people at Microsoft talk about Bill Gates and the way he, whatever the cost, whatever the way he does it, tries always to beat his counterparts at the computer industry.
it doesn't matter when teh company was founded...what matters is when teh software was released. Apple released teh furse public coputer that offered a GUI..the Lisa. When Bill saw teh Lisa he wanted teh sae thing. When Bill went to Apple Steve was alreday working on what became teh Mac. Windows came from the ac prototypes able gave bill to start making Mac Apps...the first being Office.
umm what? Apple was found in 78' and Microshit in 85' in a cardboard box. Bill Gates worked for Apple and copied them again and again and again and again. Man I dont know how many times i could say again
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
\apple 1976 \microsoft 1975 \ \ \In 1984, Jobs was making computers in his garage, he hired the already world leader microsoft to program for his new computer. \ \ apple had 80% of the business market in 1990, now they have ZERO \they had twenty percent of the home market, now they have 4% of the american market. \ \they are nothing nowbut a phone company
Everything could rune on the Mac if it was made for it. The only reason PC has it all is because they own most of the market share, and thats because its cheaper.
how old are you? dos 1 thru 6 and win 3.1, 3.11 and 3.5(workgroups) predate win 95. os2 isn't really relevant and neither is pcdos, since it was actually a licensed version of microsoft's dos, and os2 was designed by ibm in an attempt to salvage r and d they lost when microsoft pulled out of a partnership with them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i meant that win 95 was the first os with a user friendly ui and was fairly expensive anyhow mac decided to spoil bills fun and put their shit on the market. obviously stealing from the unix kernel . plus i had a mac for a fortnight (brother spilt baked beans all inside my computer) and i couldnt do anything that i wanted to do. couldnt play games had to get special software that replicated applications and the browser had problems with flash. mac is just there to let retards use computers
And as I understand it microscum had no machines to put their software on so they kept looking to apple for the answer till Jobs finally agreed on an arrangement. That is when Bill the scum gates got access to the GUI apple had been working on.
untrue, all of the software that made mac popular was written by bill gates. when the mac first came out there were 8 programs for it, windows wrote all 8 of them
And by the way people were familiar with apple before they were familiar with miscrosoft so your argument has little meaning. Until Gates hooked up with Jobs microsoft was very obscure. Barely anyone had heard of them.
Isn't that the whole point? In the late 80"s most businesses used macs with windows software, but mac blew it by staying small. Windows let everyone use their software in the computers they built, thats why windows won the battle.
Funny how now macs are all running windows again, thats all bill gates ever wanted.
Macs aren't running windows again. They have a built in superior OS called osx. The only reason people sub-boot windows on macs is for video games. If it wasn't for that people wouldn't care less about windows because it is a problematic GUI with all sorts of uncool glitches. I mean you can't even open up vista without something completely arbitrary happening like, for instance, your volume button completely disappearing!!!!!!!
And no, most people run windows on thier mac because many professional business programs are made for windows.
And no, windows 7 has no glitches, but snow leopard has been updated 17 times so far because of serious security issues and a nasty habit of erasing guest account information whenever you turn it off
You know what I meant you fuckin middle aged goon. I never had a problem with my mac osx OS and ALWAYS had a problem with whatever fuckin windows OS I had. And you are dead wrong about the GUI in original macs! It was based on xeroxs GUI not that ugly pie in the face bill gates.
I have seen your channel, three videos calling everyone else and asshole and complaining you can't get a date. What's the problem, can't find an older fag to take you in?
Every person on youtube who makes videos criticizing other is showing that they are assholes. So keep trying the insults fagboy, prove what a child you are.
idk what video you're talking about but I made one video complaining about how my female friends are dating abusive assholes and always complaining about it. I have my own girlfriend which is why i don't date them duh. Call me a child, you're probably old enough to be my dad, so in that sense and compared to you I AM a child. You should be ashamed of yourself!
When Apple released Snow Leopard on August 28, it included an older version of Adobe's Flash plug-in that was known to have security issues. Sophos security expert Graham Cluley warned users of the downgrade and urged anyone who installed the operating system to upgrade immediately.
Windows is updating, Apple is fixing stupid mistakes.
And having a greater market share is hardly 'winning the battle'. Having a superior product will pay off better in the long term because 1-people will have alot more trust and respect in your company and 2-When the cost of these products goes down microsoft will virtually disappear into the abyss, where it belongs.
Are you a little retarded? Mac having a superior product will pay off in the long term? I thought mac was always superior, so they have been superior for 30 years and have a smaller market share now then they had in the 1980's. What is the long term? They need another 30 years?
and lastly THE PRICE OF MACS WILL NEVER GO DOWN, BECAUSE MACTARDS WILL PAY ANYTHING FOR A FLASHY UNDERPOWERED COMPUTER.
30 years of mac superiority has gotten them nothing
Dumb ass, I know you are probably some 50 year old lover of bill gates but try and listen. Having a larger share of the marker so obviously doesn't mean your product is better it obviously means your product is so shitty it has to be cheap because otherwise no one would buy it! This is why the majority of the computers sold at whalemart have MS windows on them! Because whalemart sells cheap crap merchandise! And FYI all the movie makers use mac because it is the only compter capable of handling!
lover of bill gates? how old are you 12? shouldn't you be out trick or treating?
If you spent half a second doing research you would see I am using a brand new macbook pro you stupid little brainwashed mactard. But I bought it for my itunes collection, not because I want to lick steve jobs ass like you do.
I don't get this part where Bill Gates says that he "wanted to steal it first". Earlier in the movie Steve Wozniak comments that Steve Jobs convinced the Xerox New York executives to show the technology the Califorina Xerox developers had made to Steve Jobs. Therefore Apple didn't "steal" the technology from Xerox - it was given/sold to them willingly. However Bill Gates clearly acquired it from Apple deceitfully.
Apple licensed most elements of their GUI framework to Microsoft. In Apple v Microsoft, Apple claimed that 189 GUI elements were stolen by MS. The judge determined that 179 of those were explicitly license to MS. The remaining 10 were deemed to broad to be deserving of a patent. Apple gave its framework to Microsoft and didn't have the foresight to see that all those elements could be reengineered into a stand alone GUI software like Windows.
See my comments to oscarexcan regarding Xerox, but I will say here that you are wrong. Xerox never gave or sold them the technology. They were allowed to see it, with the expectation that they would be licensing it. In effect they did steal it and were sued over it. As a sidenote...Bill Gates and Ballmer WERE at Xerox PARC BEFORE Steve Jobs and Woz. That's what he is implying in that scene in the movie.
Even though I use a Windows PC, from what I have heard, neither of them are really better. With Windows, there is so much unneccesary incoding, that someone could change one code and stuff up the whole world, and mac is so expensive, God only knows what really goes into it.
Steve Jobs: We're better than you are. We have better stuff.
Bill Gates: You don't get it Steve, that doesn't matter.
Wow, that's really true of what happened later on, with Windows 3.0, Windows 95, Microsoft's collaboation with Intel namely Wintel and the pressure from Microsoft to IBM to ship Windows instead OS/2 in their computers (which ironically before the OS/2 was a collaboration between Microsoft and IBM). Steve got owned by Bill with this sentence.
it's coming back to bite Bill in the ass though... look at the public's response to vista.
Second, to the other comments, all cars have steering wheels. Microsoft is a photocopier company. They leech off others' ideas. Not that that is a problem, but it's not what I prefer.
Anyone who knows their tech history knows that Apple and Microsoft worked together in the mid 70's... And Microsoft did the first PC coding for apple... but who invented that coding??? That's right people. Apple did!!!

@Ffiti2 lol, so when Apple copies an idea, its called "working upon" and "improving". when microsoft copies an idea its called stealing. and no, people don't walk around thinking microsoft invented anything- the media has completely branded microsoft as a bully. people walk around and think macs are the best computers cuz they're made of aluminum and glass and sht.
being a linux user, of course you see how big a nazi Apple is- putting the lockdown on everything. long live open source.
cforcalvin 11 months ago
@cforcalvin well, i think that wording is only accurate, microsoft never contributed anything to the GUI revolution...
lol, aluminum and glass do make computers look nice, but that's not the only reason they're good. they have a really nice OS
and of course, i do respect open source work, although it tends not to function as well as closed software.

this is one of my favorite movies so ok we know that microsoft has stolen alot of things but apple also stole some things to. they tried to steal the tv set. but microsoft got it first. apple got graphics. so did microsoft. i dont think its stealing (in my opinion) i think its just simple copying.

Therefore Microsoft IS the theif

xerox showed apple the os, they did not give them permission to steal it, which is why XEROX SUED APPLE
. i went to the apple store the other day, they showed me their operating system, does that mean I can copy it? just cause they showed it to me?
apple freely showed microsoft its operating system, so by your theory apple gave it to microsaft
johnmonk66 2 years ago
Years later, while Apple was suing Microsoft, Xerox tried to sue Apple. However the agreement between Xerox and Apple was different. Parc wikipidia: "Xerox was given Apple stock in exchange for engineer visits and an understanding that Apple would create a GUI product."
You have to remember at the time this was not something known to the public. Apple was shown how the technology works, not just a finished product, with permission to use it. MS was shown what they needed to develop software.
noahrobd2 2 years ago
The agreement with Microsoft was to develop the software only. Apple paid Xerox for the use of the technology and had permission. Microsoft did NOT pay Xerox or Apple nor did they have permission. And the only thing in common with the Xerox system was the fact that it was a GUI, but the interface itself was completely different. Where as MS copied almost the exact same interface Apple had. Xerox only decided to sue years later as an afterthought b/c they were upset over their own lack of foresit
noahrobd2 2 years ago
xerox lost the law suit because they had an agreement with apple? funny, windows won their lawsuit for the same reason. It is very simple, if windows stole anything they would have lost the lawsuit.
wikipidia is not the end all of information, it is a user based information site, which means it can be filled with lies.
so i guess parc also gave apple permission to copy the mouse? sony gave apple permission to copy the mp3 player? lg gave apple permission to copy the touch screen phone?
johnmonk66 2 years ago
Unfortunately, it is lot more complicated than whether or not you win or lose a law suit. You can win a law suit and still be wrong or vice versa. I have done much research on the beginnings of the PC industry back in the day. Wikipedia is not the first source I heard this from, just happened to be the one I sited here. MS has done this to a LOT of companies, not just Apple. And there have been FAR TOO MANY suits against MS to count.
noahrobd2 2 years ago
Most tech companies agree that Microsoft does not play fair. They trick other companies. They back stab. They exploit legal loop holes. They've stolen from many companies, not just Apple. They steal from small companies that cannot match Microsoft's same legal resources, and therefore do not have a leg to stand on to defend themselves. (I'm not talking about when it was Apple vs Microsoft.) MS is big enough to do wrong and get away with it because of their lawyers.
noahrobd2 2 years ago 23
@noahrobd2 microsoft BUYS tons of companies per year, and folds their code and technology into existing products or puts out a new product with a microsoft badge on it. not really stealing. and as for this scene, apple "stle" the gui concept from xerox before ms "stole" it from them.... apple markets to people who want to feel liek they are joining an exclusive club; microsoft markets to EVERYBODY

Anyone can steal an idea from a company that has spend millons in research. Then they don't have the overhead and can undercut them in price. Apple has pioneered a lot of tech.

about Xerox... what happened is that they didn't want to share their development with Apple, but Xerox is just part of 3M, and 3M didn't had any interest on their ideas, so they didn't had any other option that take the offer from Apple, cause they saw them as pirates... but not because they stole to them, but by their background as hackers.. and yes, too many coud perceive it as Apple takeing advantage, and maybe they did, but legaly... not like Gates did with Mac.

It's also fact that Microsoft didnt have a GUI and got it from the MAC.
mwe1967 3 years ago
In fact this movie is considered a kind of cocumentary, because it's based on the real facts. johnmonk66 2 years ago
And by the way people were familiar with apple before they were familiar with miscrosoft so your argument has little meaning. Until Gates hooked up with Jobs microsoft was very obscure. Barely anyone had heard of them.
LittleEmoBoy001 2 years ago
Isn't that the whole point? In the late 80"s most businesses used macs with windows software, but mac blew it by staying small. Windows let everyone use their software in the computers they built, thats why windows won the battle.
Funny how now macs are all running windows again, thats all bill gates ever wanted.
johnmonk66 2 years ago
Macs aren't running windows again. They have a built in superior OS called osx. The only reason people sub-boot windows on macs is for video games. If it wasn't for that people wouldn't care less about windows because it is a problematic GUI with all sorts of uncool glitches. I mean you can't even open up vista without something completely arbitrary happening like, for instance, your volume button completely disappearing!!!!!!!
LittleEmoBoy001 2 years ago
OS's are not built in moron, they are software.
And no, most people run windows on thier mac because many professional business programs are made for windows.

And having a greater market share is hardly 'winning the battle'. Having a superior product will pay off better in the long term because 1-people will have alot more trust and respect in your company and 2-When the cost of these products goes down microsoft will virtually disappear into the abyss, where it belongs.
LittleEmoBoy001 2 years ago
Are you a little retarded? Mac having a superior product will pay off in the long term? I thought mac was always superior, so they have been superior for 30 years and have a smaller market share now then they had in the 1980's. What is the long term? They need another 30 years?
and lastly THE PRICE OF MACS WILL NEVER GO DOWN, BECAUSE MACTARDS WILL PAY ANYTHING FOR A FLASHY UNDERPOWERED COMPUTER.

A mac is expensive, but its lifetime its longer than a windows. My mac is 8 years old and it works fantastic

regardless of what happened in reality, the monolouge about the rich neighbor and "I got there first" brilliant monolouge.

XD for one bill gates did not make vista and yeah but they make it better most of the time
