  • you folks are sexy

  • This is a romanian song composed by George Enescu.i want u guys to listen this song "Ciocarlia" played by Gheorghe Zamfir. George Enescu composed wonderful music try to listen.

  • Wow!

  • They came to Tampico Tamaulipas, México....

    I love them!

  • I luuuuve Fishtank! I can't wait to see them again next year! They are great people and great musicians! very talented!

  • super fun great music! love listening to it and dancing to it! i also had the pleasure to meet the band and they were very kind people... extra bonus ;)

  • So sorry you feel this way, sir. I do apologize if we were exhausted after two shows and a ten hour drive and appeared to be "sour". We travel with a child in tow and this puts an added stress on our post-performance, not to mention the fact that we have been traveling and performing since mid-june, We had lovely chats with quite a few people last night and so Im very sorry if you came out of ours offended- it was not our intention to offend anyone.

  • They put on two awesome shows in Detroit last night. I hope they are collectively in a better mood today, as they presented as very sour people after the show. Yuck!

  • who is mentioning the Roma at all is worth her salt, and I should have stuck to that. I would ask if we can all move on, but , that is also out of my control, and I for one am not here to criticize anyone.

  • Perhaps social conscience rises to the occasion only during well-publicized tours, or else she would not dare criticize the land of Jean-Paul Gaultier. In any case, this is the instinct that I spoke on, when definitely it would have been wiser to applaud simply the action, instead of question whether the means were at all conducive to peace and instead might have invoked more self-justification at persecuting the Roma. Regardless, i should not think so much. I suppose any pop star

  • I was asked a question that I was not sure how to respond to, but it is my instinct that a pop star in front of thousands of fans , if she is truly wishing to promote brotherhood, is rather unwise and pompous to blanket accuse these thousands of fans equally with being racists. I have to wonder what Madonna had to say last year when Sarkozy was terrorizing the Roma in France, simply to hide his shady fundraising? Women and children were woken up at all hours, gassed, etc.

  • Not once have we stated to be anything other than European or American. However, journalists have very often taken the liberty of saddling us with the term "gypsy" to describe us, and although it is out of my control, it is so much so that I have taken to preemptively emphasizing our origins as being Non-Roma.

    2. yes I was misquoted. I did write a long statement to a certain forum I am sure that some here are aware of, and if you saw it and are still writing, then I know not what to say.

  • @animaeeyes Sorry... are you saying that you have never called yourselves a "Gypsy" band? Did your website and PR get hijacked by someone else? Glad to read from your comments that you are actually in support of helping the Roma and not simply capitalizing on their stolen culture. Hope we can look forward to your taking opportunities offered to you to express some gratitude to the people who wrote the tunes you cover.

  • Since my name has been mentioned twice now I think I should respond. If people want to continue the conversation after I am done, Im not here to stop anyone, but there is too much misconstrued information here. And yes- information is in the eye of the beholder, but here is what I know:

    1. We give many interviews to many diverse publications, and we have always stuck to the same subjects: Where we met, where we come from (Europe and California) why we play what we play, and our travels.

  • We realize in Europe 'Gypsy' can be a derogative word, but in the states it does not have that connotation. All musicians take in influences they like and make their music based on that. We are doing the same. Highlighting a music and culture we love and want to spread. Sorry if you have a problem with that. Music is above the politics of political correctness. We do share some of your concerns though. and we are quite tight with Voice of Roma

btw, Ursula was misquoted in that interview

  • To set the record straight, none of us in Fishtank Ensemble are Rom (gypsies). Fabrice did build wagons and travel eastern europe for about 7 years living with and playing music with them though. Ursula joined him at the end of that before they moved to the US to start the band.

The thing JooDooDaddy, all the Rom bands we know, and we know quite a few, all describe their music as 'Gypsy Music'. That's because everyone knows that word. Almost nobody, except educate people use the word Rom.

  • @eldouje That's a fair reply. People also sang "Negro" spirituals. The Roma don't want to be called Gypsy but really more than that even is the fact that they are suffering - as bad as any African American in the South under Jim Crow - and no one says anything. If you have an opportunity - as your band seems to - to educate audiences, that's great. If on the other hand, you have the opportunity to say something and do the opposite, that is WRONG and exploitative. Show some gratitude.

  • Well, seems like "Gypsy" music is pretty sexy these days -- but no one gives a crap for how the "Gypsies" (who don't even call themselves that) are being treated like shit. They just love to take the culture -- and when the band says no one should point it out... that's just sad and sick. You guys said it. But don't ask me, ask a ROM how they feel about it. Hope you guys make a lot of money.

  • @BigBadJooDooDaddy

im sorry but the fact that your trying so desperatly to judge these people based on something they may have or not have said is quite disturbing. I happen to know two of these people very well and know that they are wonderfull people. And even if ursula said that, it wouldnt make it right to judge her in any way. until you actually know these people shut the fuck up.

  • @suporcool Pretty defensive for someone who can't spell. And believe me, she said it - in print. She may regret it now. Maybe next time she'll think about the actual human beings whose culture she copies. If she thinks it's okay for them to be persecuted, maybe she should find another music - or career.

  • @BigBadJooDooDaddy

Hahaha...What? defensive for someone who cant spell? copying a culture? She's a gypsy who lived in europe for a number of years before moving with her french husband to the US a couple years ago with the band. The entire band are actual gypsies. They learned their music from traveling around romania. So they are an actual gypsy band. And ive been searching for a while but i still cant find the interview your talking about (link?).

  • @BigBadJooDooDaddy

Its funny. I didnt get an e-mail saying you had replied. Apparently even youtube doesnt think you're worthy of a response.

  • @suporcool Didn't think it was necessary, as a few members of the band replied themselves to contradict your ridiculous assertions. Why don't you try reading them (even though you are more of an expert about them than they are?) you shmuck

  • Read an interview where the singer said Madonna shouldn't have told Romania to stop discriminating against the Gypsies. Can you honor the music and dishonor the people who make it? Great, hope you are as successful as Zeppelin, without the lawsuits.

  • @BigBadJooDooDaddy I fail to see your point, please elaborate. How exactly are we dishonoring the people?

  • American Gypsy? Way to coopt a culture and exploit a people!

  • @BigBadJooDooDaddy - ummm, we're highlighting the parts of that culture that we love and influence us. You think that's exploitation?? we're honoring Roma (gypsy) music.

  • No words, siete una bomba: vi offrirei da bere!

  • search for george enescu -ciocarlia and u will find the original song ,player and composer.have a nice day .

  • @mishulika

what you listen here is Serbian mix of Ciocarlia (The Lark - RO) with Mesecina (Moonlight? - SR), serbians (goran) was the first to present a very similar mix

  • @jolly7777 it's cool! ;)

  • I really really miss Aaron Seeman and Mike Penny u___u

  • Not FTE's most qualitative collective performance. I am a huge fan, however and am really glad to see them making it. They're wonderful. This just isn't one of my favorites, sorry to say. Bit of a shred-fest without much cohesiveness (for me at least). Still I love you guys. xo
