@BigolePappy2 That was the funniest thing I've read all day. Cichlid are territorial and aggressive and need a lot more room for that number of fish in that size of a tank. Of course seeing how this was posted in 2008 I'm sure most of them are dead already from stress and getting pecked at all day.
You really shouldn't have that many of those kind of fish in a tank that small. They have nowhere to hide and the lesser ones are getting chased and bullied. That must suck to be a fish and have to be swimming away with fear all day everyday. Small tanks like these are for goldfish or guppies. :)
cichlids are cichlids, they are gonna fight and nip and push each other around, no matter how big the tank is. I like the tank setup you have. If they are all doing fine, that is great.
Yup that's the case, I have to admit I lost the clown loaches and one of the cichlids due to being away on a weekend. It got quite hot and wound up cooking the tank since there was no AC on. I'm down to 4 cichlids and the XOXO loach.
if those are lava rocks dont put them in there.once lava rocks are in the water the rocks give off something bad.i forgot but try to look it up.i didnt find this out till like just 3 days ago.
u ovbviously are quiet an arrogatn fellow. i do like your tank setup. the people are saying it is overstocked, just because there just pyscially is not enough space for this mbuna cichlids to live comfortably. ive been raising cichlids for 10 years now. The cichlids that you have in your tank can live comfortabley in that tank if there were only 3 or 4 but not 5 , plus u have 3 clown loaches which wont help anything. get back at me if im wrong. :)
Interesting these fish have been in the tank for about 2-3 years and I havent lost a single one yet. Check back in 2012 and I'll let you uniformed rookies know if lose any.
BTW this is my only tank so what "other" tanks are you saying are overstocked?
Most chiclids are recommended to be kept in 50+ gallons of water(some smaller cichlids in 20+ gallons). Not only is your tank to small, but overcrowded like your other tanks. Let us know when all your fish die...Poor fish.
They seem to be fighting for some space.... Excuse my possible ignorance, but I thought cichlids couldn't live with anything other than themselves? Or is that the African cichlid?
Too many territorial fish in a space not appropriate for this (quantity and behavior).

Dude that tank is inhumane. You should name your aquarium Auschwitz. Get a 50 gallon for cichlids.

Oh wow, when I was in grammar school they told me that 12 was bigger then 10. Why would all those teachers lie to me? :(
thatpreludeguy 2 years ago 13
The way the tank is shaped makes it look very small.

So I should add some goldfish and guppies? Wont they get eaten by the other fish?
thatpreludeguy 2 years ago
Actually smaller aquariums would make temporary homes for goldfish.

well hopefully the rest snuff themselves out so they dont have to suffer any longer. If I lived in that box I would hope for the sun to cook me!!!

Yes yes they're all doing well still not an issue. Good luck on your tank too!
