Oh dear. Honestly, this is just ridiculous. These "poor" horses are not enslaved by any means. They are just like any other athlete and these guys are bred to withstand the strain of 3-day event and not only endure, but excel at it. This is not abuse, it's competetion and they're built for it and enjoy it. This is not slavery, it's a partnership. At this level, they're treated better than some people so they're "end" is actually prolonged.
@doedel234 lol harder for the horse actually its pretty easy for them.done with ease. better with slavery nahh i jump never touch the wip to them they dont wanna jump they refuse. easy as that. could kill me if they wanted.faster comes the end?actually they live about 15 years longer in captivity than they do in the wild, healthier, stronger, fuller bellys no need to search for food so before you go accusing.. think again this obvious is something youve never done and havent researched enough.:)
thank you for making such a wonderful video showcasing all of the talent and hard work that's put into cross country. i feel sometimes that we who compete in this section of the equestrain world can be left out sometimes..... but again thank you
I think cross-country would have to be the hardest out of dressage, show jumping and cross-country. It is so much more complex and difficult. You have to save the horses energy and if they step wrong before or after a jump, it could be the end. I think its so much more risky.
work it harder make it better do it faster makes us stronger.
especially the last thing is right. us horse riders know the truth. horse riding IS a sport. and i don't care what others say. people who can't see that horse riding is a sport, are just complete idiots.
we also get hurt during the sport. we alse need to work hard. we also have goals that we want to achieve. and it's just as strenuous (it is strenuous right? i don't know the english word) as soccer or whatever.
I don't care what people think, but it is horrible when they say its not a sport cause you go through so much to get the point your at, alot more work than any other sport. x
wow. that looks like fun for the horses. i wanna try this cross country thing. looks way more fun than dressage. any kind of horse can do this, right?
@dippypip :/ No they dont they tend to have TB blood in them. They are starting to cross them with WB more to become stronger at dressage which is why there is all the controversey about the dressage being too influential, they're also saying this could be why we are seeing more accidents XC phase because riders are picking horses better at dressage than XC. Warmbloods are heavier horses built for power TB's are built for stamina & speed. Sorry for the rant hope you found it interesting! haha x
@luvtwilightandhorses She is supose to do her arms like that because she has to keep the reins open so that the horse can go through the middle of the water with out going out one side. i have seen many trainers teach their riders that! Trust me!!!
I love xc! but some of the profetional jumps... well I am not sure if I wouid bring my horse over them... I would nev er forgive myself if anything happens.. so I will stick to 3' xc
I love the rider and horse combo at the start, they are a real team, i would love to see them at dressage, the horse is such a bold jumper... I wished mine would just be consistent
i LOVE xc!!! i've never done it but i love to watch it and my trainer said we r going to start wen it gets warmer out so we can go outside lol. i can't wait!!!
I love how this song always sounds like it's coming out of a radio in the backround in the beggingin g this song can realy get you pumped up b4 you ride :D I lve talkin wiht my horsey peeps lol I'm gonna have some vids. up soon so subscribe to me and cowgirl she makes awesome vids so plz subscribe Ima gonna make some pretty kelw videos (i hope)
I hate x-country... well i dnt hate i just shit myself on a course I've never ridden b4 lol... i think i much rather prefer the rails that fall down... i love show jumping, but eventing just isn't for me.
this is a really cool video! where did u get your clips...alot of these people ride very strongly which is understandable because its cross country...a few were unbalanced so they were catchin there ponies i the mouth:( but yet again...cross countrys hard
its cross country and 4 PanWitSyr you have 2 have perfect form and stance. you have to have a nice forward motion. you have to keep your hands steady so they don't tug on the horses neck. u have to make sure you kick them in the right lace and how hard. a big thing is how hard u kick them and horses arn't machines they have attatude AKA they can be stubborn , try to bite, not listion, buck kick rear up. and much more then that uts i think i made my point
I have a question. I'm not trying to knock horse riding in anyway, I'm just wondering. Everyone on here who rides says that it requires skill. What skills are required other than squeezing your legs together?
And when answering my question, please keep in mind that I'm not trying to say that horseback riding isn't hard or anything. I'm just asking.
well balance is one factor, the way you position yourself on your horse determines which way you are asking your horse to go, how tight you hold on to the reins, where you squeeze with your legs (like on their flank so on and so forth) you have to be aware of where your horses footfalls will be if you do cross country, you have to keep in mind if you do showjumping if you get in deep to an in and out how you r going to get out safely and clean, its a very mentally physically demanding sport
it takes leg muscle, you have to keep ur leg on ur horse at all times. some people ride with out sturups to make there legs stronger!!! its hard work!! some times people dont know that they r taking there leg off the horse and then ur horse stpps at a jume and u start having troubles!! u ever ridden a horse?
Have you ever tried rubbing your belly and patting your head while dancing a jig on a gymnastics balance beam?
Horse riding requires you to have balance, multiple limb coordination, courage, trust - in yourself and in your mount, and knowledge. That knowledge, and skill, may take many years to acquire, and even those competing at the levels shown in this video are still learning skills, as are their horses.
Get it wrong, or have a horse that does not trust in you, and it can quickly turn bad.
You have to be able to balance, especially over fences, you have to be able to physically control the horse, which can be very hard, and you have to be mentally prepared to do things like cross-country, that takes quite a bit of nerve.
Well, there are many different things that I could go over, but there's no way I can fit it all, so here's it put basically: Everything in horseback riding is very subtle, so I don't blame you for not knowing because it's hard to see. You must have balance, and learn to control you horse through different cues that can be screwed up easily. You have to have muscle in order to remain still and calm on your horse, and speed is not controlled by the reigns, it's actually mostly your stomach.
also, not trying to be snotty or anything, just go find a barn that's willing to give you one lesson. Even on a "push-button" pony that you'll be riding, you'll discover that there is so much more under the very well-kept look that makes horse-back riding look easy.
i want to try cross-country,its just it looks crazy and a bit scary cuz look how high those jumps look.I love the part were the horse jumps the O jomp! i love this vid make some more better ones then this, this video is really good anyways.
i just wanna learn to jump so i dont freak! at lessons, my horse jumpesd a stream and i freaked! i was in jump position but not ready...we were goin in the woods. but ashlys horse freaked too so i wasnt alone!
hahaha first off great vid. second I MEAN NO DISRESPECT BY THIS! I hate XC style jumping. but thats just because I am a hunter jumper so im like EW . wtf? What are they DOING!? hahahhaa but i know it takes guts and training and hard work. its just not what im in to. XD
agreed! but my friends do 3 day eventing and i did one of their courses, the style of jumping like how the horses have to jump to make sure they dont flip, it kind of makes you ride like that! its really weird
luv this vid. i agree, i h8 it wen ppl at my school say horse ridin aint a sport. :@ is that william fox pitt at 2:57 on moon man???? must be old cuz his xc colours are wierd.
im with you every one at my shcool makes fun of me becouse i ride horses WELL TO ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO THINK I OR ENEYONE ELSE IS WIERD OR STUPID BECOUSE WE RIDE HORSES WELL I BET YOU CANT EVEN GET YOUR BUT ON A HORSE HAHA!!!!
the ppl who think horseback riding is not a sport are INSANE. It is probably one of the toughest sports there is. And if they say its not a sport its obviousley just cuz their JEALOUS!!!
if the horses didn't want to do it, they wouldn't let us :)
they like it don't worry.
i have a horse now that was a western horse where he was depressed and stopped eating. then was a hunter horse, where he was depressed and got pissy all the time. and now he's eventing with me and is as happy as a clam
cross country impress me more then anything! I do jumping, I've never tried cross country... but I don't know... you really need balls for that! really impressive! thank you for the videos :)
@sweetscorpion27 lol i do a bit of eventing, and i have only fallen off doing dressage and jumping a few times. in cross country i fall off more or less everytime. my horse gets totally over excited when we get onto the course lol
It's been a year since I was bitching about the way some of these riders use the reins. I have to say I still think some of these horses must get injuries in their mouths after a competition. And it would make me very happy just to get one comment from someone who agrees with me; I'm not saying these riders suck, I'm a decent rider and I have lots of respect for XC-riders; awesome sport and tough, top-trained riders and horses! Great vid.
They use their reins as they have to, the constant contact is very Important, I totally understand where your coming from, but I have started XC now, So I understand now that it is necessary .
I agree with you, I'm happy you agree with me! I also think they have major skills and guts! I understand that they have to do some jumps a different style than others, but i've seen so many jumps that you can release over for your horses mouth, no if and's or but's! That one guy in blue on the cute grey irratates me.. even just cantering or inbetween jumps he's flying like a maniac on his horse and his horse's mouth ! >:(
The dapple is my..admiration...love... Nicolas Touzaint's, Galan De Sauvagere, poor thing didn't get to compete in Bejing due to an injury in his stall when he got there! ...Self destructive creatures :p
it really pisses me off because people don't think that horse back riding is a sport because it is and it is ALOT harder then it looks we horse back riders have to work hard to make it look that easy!
ha no i know it's cross country just wondering the name of the actual event. Like i know it's not rolex or burghley. And it looks like it atleast a 3* event. Just never scene these jumps before.
i LOVE xc!!!!!!! its soooo fun! at first its realllllly scary!!!!!! but my friend had to persuade me to do it and after i did xc with her omg LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant wait to go to bucks county horse park!
This video is great, shows just how physical cross country is. I rode 3 horses in one competition. Two of mine own and then I ended up riding my friend's gelding because she got a migraine and couldn't ride but she wnated him to get the points. I was so shattered by the end I slid off the horse and lay on the ground. Did okay with him though, never ridden him before then.
Oh my..! I currently own a TB and show a QH (the tb is too hot for me at the moment so I am showing the qh so I have something to show while we work with the TB on xc..which is going very well XD) I am going to show the both of them when I can so it is nice to know someone can do 3 :)
It was one of the hardest things ever! It was pure stubborness that kept me in the saddle. My TB is pretty wild in cross country, just wants to go and go and go lol. But I don't do xc anymore with him because he is 18 and I don't want him getting hurt.
I agree, my TB in a ex-racer she she is really hot and like your boy, she just wants to bolt, so that makes it even harder! My girl is 18 aswell, so im just show riding with her now :)
My boyfriend just asked me how many, you´d people say, horses die each year in cross country? Neither he or me are accusing this sport of anything, we both think it´s one hard sport and are just curious. Afterall it takes a lot from the horse and the falls can be really bad :( Or maybe I should ask how many horses are seriously INJURED each year? Doesn´t have to be that accurate, just curious :) Great vid! :D
It's actually not safe- the chance of rotational falls with solid jumps is pretty high. With the new courses, instead of the classical, more and more people are hurt due to the shorter format with the same number of jumps. Also, dressage is not the safest- thats a generic statement, considering more than 70% of falls occur when a rider is not jumping.
ya i think that different shows have different amounts of stuckup riders cause iv competed in shows with tones of super nice riders that r up against me and some total jerks that would spit at my horse cause he wasn't pure bred
INO sum of th stuckup lot are like you hv not gt a pure bred horse i am goin to disrespect ya horse and it annoys me so much it dusnt hv to be pure bred to win a show .
I hate that! I had a beautiful appy (buckskin, snowcap to withers, blue eyes, thick mane and tail, stripes on knees) that I used to cop a lot of teasing for because I had a 'coloured horse' which apparently are no good. He won state dressage champs! I now have a TB that has a few scars on him, his mane sticks up and has a big boofhead but I love him to pieces! I work hard and don't care what horse a person rides. I compete to have fun with my horse.
ya sorry misunderstanding....i agree that some of them are stuck up..i think the true riders are the talented ones that dont get everything handed to them, they actually have to work hard and earn their reputation as great riders.
ya i think that diff. shows have diff. amounts of stuck up riders cause i've been to shows with riders that would be totally sweet even when i had never met them b4 and then there were shows where girls would spit at my hrs cause he wasn't pure bred
no you weren't it's just alot of the hunters where I live are stuck up daddys girls who get whatever they want when ever they want it and ride like once a month on their little push button ponies and have the stable hands do all the work. that ticks me off so much!
I agree most of them are , you hv to actually do the work if you have a horse i would 100% rather spend my time muckin out, grooming, feeding, cleaning tack myself than some other randomer if you want to ride your horse you have got to earn the ride.
Yea i no some ppl do hv school bt they should do it at the weekends !X
Some think there horses are better than ours and i just get so annoyed X
i'd like to try eventing i'm tired of hunter shows kinda boring to me... and i don't like jumpers either so after a yr of not showing and really thinking i decided to train for eventing! but i LOVE LOVE LOVE XC!!!! LOVE IT!!!! go xc ppl!!!!! xc is soooo fun! but i'm not doin it on my forever bffl horse joker... i doin it on a mare who's the same thing but not as much! she's my favorite mare he's ma favorite gelding!
harder.better.faster.
of course: HARDER abuse for the horse, BETTER ways of slavery and FASTER comes the end of the poor horses.

I don't like military:S ...Poor horses, just like natural horsemanship and wastern...nothing more...
artOfSamira 2 years ago
if the horses didn't want to do it, they wouldn't let us :)
they like it don't worry.
i have a horse now that was a western horse where he was depressed and stopped eating. then was a hunter horse, where he was depressed and got pissy all the time. and now he's eventing with me and is as happy as a clam
sarahjeankelseyanna 2 years ago 3
yes, ok:)
it also depends how you treat your horse... My horses always are happy when they see me and come because they want to train with me hehe
And it can happen that in each disciplin people can treat the horses in a bad way... western, military...etc.
take care with your horses...;)

these horses enjoy what they do!

sarahjeankelseyanna 2 years ago
@sweetscorpion27 lol i do a bit of eventing, and i have only fallen off doing dressage and jumping a few times. in cross country i fall off more or less everytime. my horse gets totally over excited when we get onto the course lol
ilovehorses2255 1 year ago
@sweetscorpion27 you dont need ball you just gotta know how to bite the bullet and let go of the fear thats what i did and i now jump up to 140 in xc

Great vid.
HannaMGA 2 years ago
They use their reins as they have to, the constant contact is very Important, I totally understand where your coming from, but I have started XC now, So I understand now that it is necessary .
Please don;t consider this hate (:
CanteringLeap 2 years ago
Ummmm, how would hte horses get hurt if there are bit restrictions?
StormValleyStables 2 years ago
I agree with you, I'm happy you agree with me! I also think they have major skills and guts! I understand that they have to do some jumps a different style than others, but i've seen so many jumps that you can release over for your horses mouth, no if and's or but's! That one guy in blue on the cute grey irratates me.. even just cantering or inbetween jumps he's flying like a maniac on his horse and his horse's mouth ! >:(

it really pisses me off because people don't think that horse back riding is a sport because it is and it is ALOT harder then it looks we horse back riders have to work hard to make it look that easy!

ha no i know it's cross country just wondering the name of the actual event. Like i know it's not rolex or burghley. And it looks like it atleast a 3* event. Just never scene these jumps before.
ArtemisHoney 3 years ago
I can't remember the excat location of the event, but it was the XC course for the 2006 European Cup.
Hope that helps :)

OriginalPrankster98 3 years ago
Cross Country is soooo scary! I wud do it if i had brakes! :(
EPRFowler 3 years ago 2

EventXC 3 years ago
It was one of the hardest things ever! It was pure stubborness that kept me in the saddle. My TB is pretty wild in cross country, just wants to go and go and go lol. But I don't do xc anymore with him because he is 18 and I don't want him getting hurt.
ScalyLorikeet 3 years ago

Jefrma 3 years ago
its generaly pretty safe. but I dont really know a amount. cros-country can be just as dangerous as jumping. the saftest is dressage:P
Tumbles08 3 years ago
It's actually not safe- the chance of rotational falls with solid jumps is pretty high. With the new courses, instead of the classical, more and more people are hurt due to the shorter format with the same number of jumps. Also, dressage is not the safest- thats a generic statement, considering more than 70% of falls occur when a rider is not jumping.
marycolettaburns 3 years ago
I'm not sure of the actual number, but I do know that it is the most dangerous equestrian sport.
marycolettaburns 3 years ago
But still, it's not so dangerous that they would not stop playing it. I love XC and will still continue to :)
pancakewafflesticks 3 years ago
ya i think that different shows have different amounts of stuckup riders cause iv competed in shows with tones of super nice riders that r up against me and some total jerks that would spit at my horse cause he wasn't pure bred
muddygirl19 3 years ago
INO sum of th stuckup lot are like you hv not gt a pure bred horse i am goin to disrespect ya horse and it annoys me so much it dusnt hv to be pure bred to win a show .
xLauragrv96x 3 years ago
I hate that! I had a beautiful appy (buckskin, snowcap to withers, blue eyes, thick mane and tail, stripes on knees) that I used to cop a lot of teasing for because I had a 'coloured horse' which apparently are no good. He won state dressage champs! I now have a TB that has a few scars on him, his mane sticks up and has a big boofhead but I love him to pieces! I work hard and don't care what horse a person rides. I compete to have fun with my horse.
ScalyLorikeet 3 years ago
ya sorry misunderstanding....i agree that some of them are stuck up..i think the true riders are the talented ones that dont get everything handed to them, they actually have to work hard and earn their reputation as great riders.
ponypro59 3 years ago
ya i think that diff. shows have diff. amounts of stuck up riders cause i've been to shows with riders that would be totally sweet even when i had never met them b4 and then there were shows where girls would spit at my hrs cause he wasn't pure bred
muddygirl19 3 years ago
seroulsly! I bet your horse was 10000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than theirs!
StormValleyStables 3 years ago
yes!
StormValleyStables 3 years ago
that video was great altho i dont do cross country.....im a hunter jumper and not stuck up....not all of them are stuck up you know
ponypro59 3 years ago
I KNOW! I said MOST! It is just the experiances I have had with them!
StormValleyStables 3 years ago
StormValleyStables i thought tht you wear impplyin tht they all were bt obvioulsly not so sorri if i was beein mean x
xLauragrv96x 3 years ago
no you weren't it's just alot of the hunters where I live are stuck up daddys girls who get whatever they want when ever they want it and ride like once a month on their little push button ponies and have the stable hands do all the work. that ticks me off so much!
StormValleyStables 3 years ago
I agree most of them are , you hv to actually do the work if you have a horse i would 100% rather spend my time muckin out, grooming, feeding, cleaning tack myself than some other randomer if you want to ride your horse you have got to earn the ride.
Yea i no some ppl do hv school bt they should do it at the weekends !X
Some think there horses are better than ours and i just get so annoyed X
xLauragrv96x 3 years ago
ah! I Just hate them! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! lol and they wine soooo much!
StormValleyStables 3 years ago
i'd like to try eventing i'm tired of hunter shows kinda boring to me... and i don't like jumpers either so after a yr of not showing and really thinking i decided to train for eventing! but i LOVE LOVE LOVE XC!!!!
