The 4.0 is such a tough motor, it can handle so much power it just can't exit the engine fast enough. I've got an x-charger hipo in the 'mail' that's set to arrive next Tuesday. I can't wait. I've still got to get the 8.8 though; I can't seem to find one anywhere at all
Travisreck- first: you won't get 400rwhp. Maybe with like 13-15lbs it's has like 8-10lbs in the kit. Second: at that level you will need to build the block. So your looking at another 3-5k depending on short or long block. Let me know if you have any questions. Mustangs FTW.
I RATHER HAVE V6 THAN V8 BECAUSE V6 SUPER CHARGED U CAN DRIVE EVERYDAY BUT IF U GOT V8 ITS TO MUCH NOISE. AND U CANT STAND FOR EVERYDAY. V8 ONLY FOR 1000 MILES PER YEAR V6 20.000 MILES PER YEAR. SOUND IS GREAT V8 BUT EVERYDAY USE U CANT STAND THE NOISE.,.,
@travisreck That's the CDC lower spoiler. You can get it in textured black, but I just bought an unpainted one and used rattle can bumper coating to paint it (makes for easy touchups if you scuff it on a curb, etc)
Thanks for posting this. I just over hauled the suspension in my 4.0, lowered, Tokico shocks and struts and a new 8.8 rear end with 3.55 gears, intake, duals, throttle body, drive shaft, you name it. Now I want ot add the Xcharger Hi Po Plus. So Im guessing Ill get close 400 RWP down on the ground. A little nervous about the engine though....any thought on that? Will a blow it up or gaskets.?
@travisreck The HiPo Plus won't get you quite that much to the wheels. It weighs in at about 340-350-ish at the flywheel. The X-charger Xtreme (the intercooled version) adds another 30-40 HP and TQ, edging it up towards 400 at the flywheel. As far as blowing it up or gaskets, I haven't heard of a head gasket failure, and only recall hearing of two engine internal problems.
The first internal issue was one of the very first released (S/N 002 I think), and the guy never installed a proper tune before going out to play, with sad but predictable results. The other was more recent, on a very high mileage car (well over 150K mi) where the fuel pump was weak and starting to go. leaned out and damaged a piston. neither issue was directly an "X-Chager" problem. Owner error in the first case, and failure of a supporting system in the second

@randomworkshop17 I don't think you'll be disappointed in the gain if you go this route. The difference between ~185HP to the wheels, and well over 300HP will get your attention for sure.

@Blackinterceptor999 Thanks. One of my better car days was when I pulled into a station to gas up next to a Ferrari, and the owner was asking what brand mufflers I was running because he was impressed with them.
@Blackinterceptor999 Very little money and Mustangs are just plain one of the fastest on the roads. And whoever said they cant handle is full of it. Throw some Tokico, springs and control arms on it for THOUSANDS less than 50k plus sports cars looking astounded on how you thrashed them to death.
@travisreck Except Corvettes are still the best bang for buck performance wise. 20k for a C5 Z06, 45k for a C6 Z06. Youre going to need alot of modding to beat one of those. And the weight distribution in a mustang is awful so no matter what you do its still limited. I think the 5.0 foxbody would be the best bet.
not gona lie i loveeeee hating on fags with V6's who think theyre badass.....but you dont think ur car is badass....you know it is!!!! and i agree, thats a sick car bro, i love it
@MrSamlbld You shouldnt hate on v6's lmao they can be prettttty tough, im pumpin 232 outa my 232 :D and i dont even have headers, an x pipe or high flow cats on yet.
@TorchVert You would really have to do some tinkering and get the cable system of for the throttle extended to the flaps...it could be done, it would just take some ingenuity...
@poppasmurf15 The 2005+ Mustangs have no cable system at all on the throttles. They're all drive-by-wire. Throttle blade opening and closing is done by an electrical stepper motor built into the throttle body housing.
@wonderbreadkw Just wanted to tell you, don't get the GT500 hood unless you're going to get the entire front fascia. There's a GT around my area with the GT500 hood, and there is a huge overhang, and sort of curves up and really distorts the grille. Looks horrible.
@madden903 thats just it. they make those style of hoods for the other mustangs that fit.i know you cant just buy a gt500 hood and slap it on which is why im getting a gt500 style
That's the Street Scene part. Just do a google search on "Street Scene Center Fog Light Grille" and that should point you in the right direction. They make models for both the V6 and GT style bumpers (the grille shapes on the two are just slightly different)

@TorchVert i actually put on flowmaster dual exhaust. got a great deal from a friend whose family has a shop. its not obnoxious but ppl sure think it is around my area
@wonderbreadkw Hey man I just got a Borla exhaust for my 03 Lightning and love it. It rumbles at low rpm with a nice bass note. At higher RPM it just sounds awesome. Best part is it's not obnoxious while it warms up in the morning. They said I got about a %10 horsepower gain which combined with the K&N intake puts this ride at about 420 hp. Sounds good and runs everyday. Go Borla man it's pricey but then again it's ALL stainless and sounds great.
im trying to do the same to my 2010 v6 im just starting off with a cold air intake and true dual exhaust but what i really want is a superchager any ideas anyone?
There Sequential taillights. You can buy them from virtually any aftermarket Mustang shop. They have them splice in for $99 and plug in for $140 at AmericanMuscle.
got a 2010 'stang. didn't need them as a mod. I apologize for my assyness but I though we were talking about performance mods. And I LOOVE sequentials.
SWEET CAR man. I've got a couple mods on my own pony and am looking into S/Cing
spankinator: guess how much HP/Tq that 70mm throttle body spacer got you... 0. Thats right, it does NOTHING unless you need significantly more airflow such as for... ehh i dont know, maybe a supercharger :P but those all come with the gear they need. in general TBS's are the worst upgrades possible. How much HP did those sequential turn signals net you? i've heard of people getting 500 hp from cobra stickers :P
That's pretty awesome. I am only 17 but i have put a few things into my 2007 V6. With a 70 mm throttle body, throttle body spacer, cool air intake, 91 octane tune, and of couse sequential tail lights. Im running just under 300 hp and am looking to put exahust and headers on next to get over 300. I did all the installation myself and it is definitely worth it. With my perrelli sport tires i get to 60 in about 5.3 sec. Mustangs are awesome.
Thanks. I hate to rain on your parade, but there's no way your list of mods us going to put a 4.0 at even close to 300hp, even measured at the flywheel. At best, the mods you mention will take to to somewhere between 200-210HP to the rear wheels. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just concerned other people will read that and think it's that easy to bring a 4.0L north of 300 hp, and it simply isn't.
To put this kindly, you are full of crap. Where did you get your 300hp figure from? All you've got is a CAI + Tune. That's it. That's 30rwhp max. Throttle body components are totally worthless on our cars, and you've still got the terrible stock muffler. TorchVert is correct: you are around 200rwhp.
Cai and tune is not even 30rwhp. The companies all advertise that you will get a ton of hp with their cai, but really cai and tune will get you 10 to 15 rwhp on an N/A car, if you're lucky.
Ya you were right, I was dreaming a little bit with that first message. I had the car on the dyno and it got a little over 230 hp, but since then I have put catback dual exhaust, tlock, and 4.10 gears. I havent been back to the dyno but i have raced v6 cameros multiple times and I smoke them every time and that to me is worth more than numbers.
As with torchvert, I'm only pointing out that the TB and TB spacer added maybe 5 hp tops to your car. Those mods are literally worthless. You still aren't even at 200 rwhp. Sorry dude. And for the future, don't get headers, especially shorties. They add no power to an NA car. Don't waste the money. Get gears and tlok to wake the car up.
wow man i have a bone stock v6 2007 vert with an auto tranny (check my vid) ..i have a straight pipe exhaust with two glasspacks..i wanna add the pypes muffler delete axle-backs in place of those i think those glasspacks are cheap...and i want to add the x charger kit will it be a good fit for me? plz reply man and thanks
do u think this could beat mine. its a s197 06 gt vert, 5 speed with 3:55 gears, long tube heads, catted x, with flows, jlt intake with 93 octane tune, and steeda under drive pulleys, so do u think the v6 is faster, i have no idea.
I think it would be an interesting matchup. On paper both cars should be pretty darn close performance-wise. I wouldn't care to declare a winner one way or the other, but I don't think anyone would be getting embarrassed.
Yes, I did all the install work myself. The X-Charger kit is really designed for "shadetree mechanic" install and comes with one of the best instruction manuals you'll probably ever see. On mine it was a total of about 8 hours in the driveway to get it installed, and that was taking it slow and double checking the steps as I went along. If you have the skill level to change a water pump and install a set of stereo speakers, you have enough skill to pull this install off.
oh cool thx, i have an 05 GT, think a supercharger would make it a monster, i just need the money, i can do it myself with hlpe from my mechanic friends, but need to get a used x charger for cheap
Not trying to bash on a very clean and mean sounding mustang but what was your reasoning behind spending all the time and money on a v6. Don't get me wrong you have a very nice car and it prolly beats most v8's but woudent it have been easier to upgrade a v8
I enjoy spending the time, I only will ever feel a need for about 350HP or so in a street car and the cost has been less than the difference between the 4.0 and the GT at the time of purchase. I also like the lighter weight over the front for handling.
It would be such a awesome race between your car and mine.. I drive a 99'' Saleen SC and its only putting down 300HP to the rear wheels lol... Considiring yours is v6 you have VERY impressive numbers... What kind of supercharger do you have?
I just installed a x-charger in my 05 V6 mustang with an automatic.... did you have yours dyno tested after the install and if so what kind of numbers did you get.... i got 238 RWHP and 224 RWTQ
Something seems off. With the basic X-Charger, you should be somewhere around 270-ish (about on a par with a stock GT) Mines currently agood bit higher, but i'm running a custom intake, smaller pulley, water/methinjection, etc
I went turbo on my car. It's better for the 1/4 mile but you lose virtually all your sound. My mustang is so quiet now! Beautiful car, man! I love the 2 lights you have together on the grill. I wanna do that too. You gotta tell me how you did it. Did you have to buy a new grill?
It varies, there's the occasional 13 yr old that likes to make rude comments if it's not a V8, and doesn't get it that there's more than one way to reach a desired performance level, but most people are cool.
yeah thats true, i actually had some kid yell out to me saying that i was a pussy cuz i own a V6 camaro convertible. and as far as i know the V6 camaro's were really common. probably more common than the V8's but its just a guess.
but yeah, people need to start respecting the 6's since their really beneficial and still have power.
that is a nice v6! i wish my mom would buy a supercharger for her 09 v6 pony. it would look badass with the glass roof she has and the torch red paint.
i am thinking about getting the x charger hipo with 2.8 pulley can u give me some numbers on hp and Tq i went to there web sites and aint finding any numbers some one told me they could 400 hp from the 2.8 hipo model is that true
right on man, thanks for the help. ill look into it more in depth, as soon as i get back from iraq, ill post a vid of my stang. i think you'll appreciate the work
how does the supercharger work for you? i want to get 1. but im not familiar with intercooled, non-intercoled,or pretty much anything to do with superchargers. would i want to change the gears? did it come as a complete package ready to install? and much did it cost to install?? sorry 4 al the Q's. but im interested!! THANK!
get it intercooled...better torque/hp gains less stress on the supercharger itself...what do u mean change gears? U can change the pulleys to make better gains in torque yet again...normally when u buy a supercharger it comes with everything u need...installation cost varies
sounds great man i love that X-charger, deffintely a quality product! exhaust sounds fantastic as well just a question though, do you have the stock manifolds on there or did you upgrade to new shorty headers?
Personally I like the JBA headers, but BBK is a good brand. I haven't heard anything good or bad regarding their 4.0 headers. I've had both an x-pipe and an H-pipe on my car. Performance was little different between the two, but the sound was much better with the H. With your setup, I wouldn't worry about high flow cats, those wouldn't be a bottleneck on a normally aspirated 4.0L
i need help...should i get the bbk headers with high-flow catted x-pipe or bbk headers with the borla x-pipe? by the way i only have the magnaflow mufflers (bot the magnapacks) on with stock everything else. the only thing i have aftermarket is a herst shifter and CAI
How much horsepower is this thing putting out? And if you don't know it could just be numbers that other people generally get from a supercharged v6. I was wondering about doing this. And 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?
Thanks. Mustangs are fantastic when it comes to being a starting point for customizing. When it comes to racing, my advice is always to keep it on the track.
nice car, i have a 2005 also, just not convertible and the only mods i have are steeda CAi and sct tuner, planning on getting pypes exhaust and jba headers too, i wanted to ask you, what's the quarter mile time on this ?
Essentially no effect if you're driving conservatively. I get about 27.5 on the highway, and that's with 3.73 rear gears. Now if' you're flooring it at every light and contantly in boost you will use more fuel, because that what the supercharger does: pack more fuel/air mix in when you're driving hard.
The 4.0 is such a tough motor, it can handle so much power it just can't exit the engine fast enough. I've got an x-charger hipo in the 'mail' that's set to arrive next Tuesday. I can't wait. I've still got to get the 8.8 though; I can't seem to find one anywhere at all

blitzboy159 1 year ago
you can actually get up to 9-10 hp from a 70mm throttle body, not worth the money but ehh, power's power
ADD8oi 1 year ago

Mustangs are awesome.
spankinator2000 2 years ago
TorchVert 2 years ago
@spankinator2000
Ahiodsohi 2 years ago
Cai and tune is not even 30rwhp. The companies all advertise that you will get a ton of hp with their cai, but really cai and tune will get you 10 to 15 rwhp on an N/A car, if you're lucky.

@Ahiodsohi
Ya you were right, I was dreaming a little bit with that first message. I had the car on the dyno and it got a little over 230 hp, but since then I have put catback dual exhaust, tlock, and 4.10 gears. I havent been back to the dyno but i have raced v6 cameros multiple times and I smoke them every time and that to me is worth more than numbers.
spankinator5000 9 months ago
As with torchvert, I'm only pointing out that the TB and TB spacer added maybe 5 hp tops to your car. Those mods are literally worthless. You still aren't even at 200 rwhp. Sorry dude. And for the future, don't get headers, especially shorties. They add no power to an NA car. Don't waste the money. Get gears and tlok to wake the car up.
browna09 1 year ago
yea sorry buddy maybe 240 crank HP

wow man i have a bone stock v6 2007 vert with an auto tranny (check my vid) ..i have a straight pipe exhaust with two glasspacks..i wanna add the pypes muffler delete axle-backs in place of those i think those glasspacks are cheap...and i want to add the x charger kit will it be a good fit for me? plz reply man and thanks

do u think this could beat mine. its a s197 06 gt vert, 5 speed with 3:55 gears, long tube heads, catted x, with flows, jlt intake with 93 octane tune, and steeda under drive pulleys, so do u think the v6 is faster, i have no idea.
mazda6tuner99 2 years ago
I think it would be an interesting matchup. On paper both cars should be pretty darn close performance-wise. I wouldn't care to declare a winner one way or the other, but I don't think anyone would be getting embarrassed.
TorchVert 2 years ago
i think it would be a cool race. shows what a v6 can do

did you work on this car yourself, i want an eaton supercharger but i need somone to put it on for me, how much would it cost?
pkidro 2 years ago
Yes, I did all the install work myself. The X-Charger kit is really designed for "shadetree mechanic" install and comes with one of the best instruction manuals you'll probably ever see. On mine it was a total of about 8 hours in the driveway to get it installed, and that was taking it slow and double checking the steps as I went along. If you have the skill level to change a water pump and install a set of stereo speakers, you have enough skill to pull this install off.
TorchVert 2 years ago
oh cool thx, i have an 05 GT, think a supercharger would make it a monster, i just need the money, i can do it myself with hlpe from my mechanic friends, but need to get a used x charger for cheap
pkidro 2 years ago
@pkidro
hmm i'm pretty sure u can only use the X-Charger with the S197's 4.0L V6

Not trying to bash on a very clean and mean sounding mustang but what was your reasoning behind spending all the time and money on a v6. Don't get me wrong you have a very nice car and it prolly beats most v8's but woudent it have been easier to upgrade a v8
ArmoImmortal 2 years ago
I enjoy spending the time, I only will ever feel a need for about 350HP or so in a street car and the cost has been less than the difference between the 4.0 and the GT at the time of purchase. I also like the lighter weight over the front for handling.
TorchVert 2 years ago
It would be such a awesome race between your car and mine.. I drive a 99'' Saleen SC and its only putting down 300HP to the rear wheels lol... Considiring yours is v6 you have VERY impressive numbers... What kind of supercharger do you have?
ArmoImmortal 2 years ago

I just installed a x-charger in my 05 V6 mustang with an automatic.... did you have yours dyno tested after the install and if so what kind of numbers did you get.... i got 238 RWHP and 224 RWTQ
taz9124 2 years ago
Something seems off. With the basic X-Charger, you should be somewhere around 270-ish (about on a par with a stock GT) Mines currently agood bit higher, but i'm running a custom intake, smaller pulley, water/methinjection, etc

If it weren't for the 6's, the Mustang would have been long dead. If I remember, more than 60-70% of all Mustang sales come from V6 sales.
Nice car, awesome supercharger sound.
magicalpoop 2 years ago
I went turbo on my car. It's better for the 1/4 mile but you lose virtually all your sound. My mustang is so quiet now! Beautiful car, man! I love the 2 lights you have together on the grill. I wanna do that too. You gotta tell me how you did it. Did you have to buy a new grill?
sargothi 2 years ago
im glad that there is alot of respect for the V6's here.
Curt705900 2 years ago
It varies, there's the occasional 13 yr old that likes to make rude comments if it's not a V8, and doesn't get it that there's more than one way to reach a desired performance level, but most people are cool.
TorchVert 2 years ago
yeah thats true, i actually had some kid yell out to me saying that i was a pussy cuz i own a V6 camaro convertible. and as far as i know the V6 camaro's were really common. probably more common than the V8's but its just a guess.
but yeah, people need to start respecting the 6's since their really beneficial and still have power.
Curt705900 2 years ago
that is a nice v6! i wish my mom would buy a supercharger for her 09 v6 pony. it would look badass with the glass roof she has and the torch red paint.
mitch9521 2 years ago
Thanks, the glass roof is a GREAT option. Not quite a 'vert, but it gives the car a really different feel inside.

how does the supercharger work for you? i want to get 1. but im not familiar with intercooled, non-intercoled,or pretty much anything to do with superchargers. would i want to change the gears? did it come as a complete package ready to install? and much did it cost to install?? sorry 4 al the Q's. but im interested!! THANK!
MIKEDIABLODIEGO06 2 years ago
get it intercooled...better torque/hp gains less stress on the supercharger itself...what do u mean change gears? U can change the pulleys to make better gains in torque yet again...normally when u buy a supercharger it comes with everything u need...installation cost varies

MarineUSA93 2 years ago
Personally I like the JBA headers, but BBK is a good brand. I haven't heard anything good or bad regarding their 4.0 headers. I've had both an x-pipe and an H-pipe on my car. Performance was little different between the two, but the sound was much better with the H. With your setup, I wouldn't worry about high flow cats, those wouldn't be a bottleneck on a normally aspirated 4.0L
TorchVert 2 years ago
i need help...should i get the bbk headers with high-flow catted x-pipe or bbk headers with the borla x-pipe? by the way i only have the magnaflow mufflers (bot the magnapacks) on with stock everything else. the only thing i have aftermarket is a herst shifter and CAI
Heezy2090 2 years ago
How much horsepower is this thing putting out? And if you don't know it could just be numbers that other people generally get from a supercharged v6. I was wondering about doing this. And 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?
gunzkevin 2 years ago
Very nice, I'm considering buying a Mustang just to customize it and turn it into a street racer!
Felreaper 2 years ago
Thanks. Mustangs are fantastic when it comes to being a starting point for customizing. When it comes to racing, my advice is always to keep it on the track.

how is fuel efficiency with the xcharger? Looking into one. Thanks.
Yonsen8 2 years ago
Essentially no effect if you're driving conservatively. I get about 27.5 on the highway, and that's with 3.73 rear gears. Now if' you're flooring it at every light and contantly in boost you will use more fuel, because that what the supercharger does: pack more fuel/air mix in when you're driving hard.

why do all of this to a v6? why not get a GT in the first place?
BW9191 2 years ago
Answered several times already, just scroll the previous comments.
TorchVert 2 years ago
because there is alot you can do with a v6 than a v8
sakotaco16 2 years ago
So you can say "I just beat that V8 with my sixxer."
And V6's are more capable than the GT. Not only in the form of mods, but the engine can handle more upgrades without having to rebuild the block.
Btw, this is a fine Mustang you have Torch. Be seeing you on The Collective with my future Procharger system hopefully.
