Ronnie is very approachable and a gentleman. I ran into him two different times in the lobby of the Boston Orpheum when Jeff beck played there in 1999 and 2001. A monster player with killer tone and technique that makes that Stratocaster sing like few can.
ursafan44 has it right - Bruce Katz is one of the best keyboardist, ever ... I can't think of anyone better on the B3. And given Greg Allman always has Bruce playing in his touring band, at least we know one professional B3 player who agrees :-)
Burdickwm: I can't believe it either, someone said the keyboard sounds stupid? Maybe they meant that in the modern way of "stupid" being "extraordinarily GREAT" . If Mr. Earl wants you in his band , you're one of the best. Bruce Katz is. 2 years ago at the NY State Bluesfest in Syracuse I got to see him play with his own band, and 3 others. He was great. Not forgetting Ronnie, if there is a heaven, and somehow I make it, Ronnie Earl would be my first choice as guitar player for eternity.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion - mine is that Bruce Katz is one of the best organ players and on Moanin's he turns in an imaginative, compelling performance.
Re: the guitar switch, as below ... at around 15 seconds in to the video you will see Ronnie walking away from Bruce Katz and grabbing the body of his guitar. From 15 seconds through 30 seconds, approximate, you will notice that there no guitar is heard - that's the time it took for Ronnie to switch guitars.
The groove, the soul, the feeling, the tone, the band. Man, they just swing through this entire song. Ronnie Earl has the magic touch and he plays his music for all the right reasons. There is nobody that sounds like him and yet he can take a groove like 'Moanin' from Art Blakey / Bobby Timmons, circa 1958, and make it sound like his own while somehow staying true to the original. Stunning.
Ronnie Earl is one of the greatest however one of the most underrated blules guitar virtuoso. And he is of hungarian origin. I am hungarian also and a huge RE fan! Keep on working Ronnie!!!
It's my first time listening to Ronnie Earl and I like it. Being an instrumental recording guitarist, I can relate to the all instrumental thing. It's harder but wonderful, because the music speaks for itself, and these guys are fantastic! Listen to that natural slightly driven but clean tone. You can't get that out of anything but a cranked up tube amp. The audience reaction says it all. Keep on brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favourite tunes, now done by one of my favourite bluesmen. I had planned to do this with a band, and now Ronnie has shown how . Do have a listen to Art Blakey's version - you will enjoy this even more.
Likw way cool Daddyo, it's the most, I'm diggin' what he's putting down and where he's comin' from and all kidding aside this trac reminds me of listening to that old jazz station in L.A. (KNOB) while making a model or doin' artwork.
The lineup is Ronnie's best...Bruce Katz tears up the B3, and Marc Cary on bass and Per Hanson provide steady rhytms on bass and drums, and Ronnie is jamming on Moanin', it doesn't get any better than this......

Why does Ronnie start the song on a sunburst Strat and later is seen playing his 64 fiesta red strat. Is this edited from two shows?

It's kind of weird not to play the bridge until the end of each solo, but still -- a nice performance.
