My Nintendo Players guide says that he has 4096, but remember the Crystals also have their own life, some are rather weak, others have 2-3 thousand health. But I don't remember if defeating the crystals is a must.

Mallow is VERY useful in the Culex battle if you have the Star Rain attack, because if you time the button right you can keep the star bouncing causing more damage!

If I remember correctly they all have seperate HP. The reason they popped in the end is because you don't have to destroy them and Culex to win. Technically to just win the battle all you have to do is defeat Culex.
