That's a result of more weight, but it's not WHY it's so heavy. Also, there's more that goes into felt recoil than just the mass of the handgun. A Glock 19 isn't a particularly hard recoiling handgun, and it's only around 20 ounces.

Weight with an empty mag is around 21 ounces according to the Springfield reps. That 29 ounce figure was an error in the print.

im a big walther fan myself, you can see this gun was made to compete with the pps, which doesnt come in 45. any ways good job spring field and walther you need to make some 45 acp's!

Well done - very cool show & tell. Looks like a pretty flagrant ripoff of the Walther PPS. Smart of Springfield to make it available in .45, which I feel is something lacking in the Walther line, and Springfield's grip safety is always a nice touch. I'd really like to try one of these out, though I love my PPS so much I doubt anything could ever knock it off my "favorite small pistol" mantel.

Excellent review. I am recently looking at Springfield guns in my role as firearm instructor, as Springfiled being highly a great choice as they are reliable and accurate. I don't recommend many. I look forward to seeing one of these models when they are available. But really great review as always. Hope you had a great trip out there.

sweet little .45! But 5+1 is a deal breaker for me :-( the Glock 36 is 6+1. where i live, the drug addict home invaders do their 'work' in groups of at least two or three! So, this would be a backup pistol at best... not a primary. Am i right, all you player haters? Remember kids... for recoil management with .45ACP, a heavy pistol is better than a light pistol. So, 29oz is a good thing for this little shooter! Can't wait to shoot one! Too bad they're not made in Amuricuh!

@pmalveda02 Looking at the overall specs it should be CA legal. Ultimately it will depend on Springfield and whether or not they will purchase the "sales permit". However based on what's available and their past track record, there's no reason not to believe it will not be available in CA.

I'm sure they will go through the proper procedures to legalize sales in your state, seeing as how options are so limited, and lots of people out there want compact .45s.
