That's a result of more weight, but it's not WHY it's so heavy. Also, there's more that goes into felt recoil than just the mass of the handgun. A Glock 19 isn't a particularly hard recoiling handgun, and it's only around 20 ounces.
im a big walther fan myself, you can see this gun was made to compete with the pps, which doesnt come in 45. any ways good job spring field and walther you need to make some 45 acp's!
Well done - very cool show & tell. Looks like a pretty flagrant ripoff of the Walther PPS. Smart of Springfield to make it available in .45, which I feel is something lacking in the Walther line, and Springfield's grip safety is always a nice touch. I'd really like to try one of these out, though I love my PPS so much I doubt anything could ever knock it off my "favorite small pistol" mantel.
Thanks for the review! Already hearing people talking about this pistol at my store...looks to be a competitor to the Walther PPS but in the .45ACP cartridge we have been wanting...
Excellent review. I am recently looking at Springfield guns in my role as firearm instructor, as Springfiled being highly a great choice as they are reliable and accurate. I don't recommend many. I look forward to seeing one of these models when they are available. But really great review as always. Hope you had a great trip out there.
@pmalveda That being said, please don't take anything I said as an insult, as it is not my intent. I wanted to make the point that different factors are relevant to different people. I don't want to discourage anyone from carrying, even if the choices they make show them to be less manly than you are.
@pmalveda02 As for carrying a 1911, I thought real men only carried a Govt. sized? Or maybe "real men" need the extra bulk to handle follow of shots for .45? All kidding aside, you opt to carry a smaller (weight and size) 1911 than is available, so you have already conceded that size/weight is worth considering.
@pmalveda02 You said, "If your a real man 29 oz is nothing.." so I was pointing out that regardless of the truth of your statement, the point is off base because a woman might want to carry it, let alone a "fake" man.
@pmalveda02 Just wondering what you carry. 29 oz is substantial in an iwb or pants pocket. Also, as evidenced in the vid, you dont have to be a real man to shoot this, or even a man at all.
@faliaphotography Love this, great vid as always. Will laugh if the holster is a duty style owb and not iwb. Also like the rail on the super slim 45, unlike same sized Kahr PM45 and Taurus 745.
sweet little .45! But 5+1 is a deal breaker for me :-( the Glock 36 is 6+1. where i live, the drug addict home invaders do their 'work' in groups of at least two or three! So, this would be a backup pistol at best... not a primary. Am i right, all you player haters? Remember kids... for recoil management with .45ACP, a heavy pistol is better than a light pistol. So, 29oz is a good thing for this little shooter! Can't wait to shoot one! Too bad they're not made in Amuricuh!
@MrLooseSkrews every1 has to make a glock wanna be for those who dont like glock but want a look a like thta gun looks so cheap the finish job looks like a 5th grader did it
@curtispa I know. They have done a better job so far than Smith and Wesson did with their Sigma series, but this gun does not look nearly as nice as some of the XD/XDms that I have seen.
@pmalveda02 You have spelling troubles, but your choice. XDs do have a nice trigger pull. I'll give them that. That gun is butt-ugly in my opinion, but if you like it, I hope it works out for you.
@pmalveda02 Yeah. I suppose that's a valid point. Unfortunately, all of the correct spellings of different things I tried were already taken. I can't really say that I gave much of a damn about my user name. Just wanted to be able to comment and it was required. Good luck.
I am excited for the XDS also. Good to see you went to show Falia. Wasn't it great? I didn't get to see half of what I wanted. Seeing Gunny made my day though
I can't believe it's 29oz...when I first heard else where I thought it was a misprint. It is as thin as you can get w/ .45 but the weight is a disappointment.
Great looking gun. I've seen a few reviews, appreciate yours. I think it will be quite popular as well due to how slim it is and the fact its a .45. Keep up the great reviews!
@pmalveda02 Looking at the overall specs it should be CA legal. Ultimately it will depend on Springfield and whether or not they will purchase the "sales permit". However based on what's available and their past track record, there's no reason not to believe it will not be available in CA.
@pmalveda02 Ah. You live in California. It has a loaded chamber indicator, and restricted magazine capacity. You should be good. I'm sure they will go through the proper procedures to legalize sales in your state, seeing as how options are so limited, and lots of people out there want compact .45s.

Weight with an empty mag is around 21 ounces according to the Springfield reps. That 29 ounce figure was an error in the print.
