Thanks for watching! Richard Basehart is not a very known actor, but IMHO he was as good as any of his generation. He had a very peculiar career. He started in the movie business at a relatively "old" age of 34, he spent only 4 years in Hollywood and then he moved to Europe with his second wife, the actress Valentina Cortese. He spent 10 years there doing all kind of movies and then returned to the US in the 60's; he didn't find a place back in movies, but he reinvented his career in TV.
Thanks for the Basehart movies. I'd never heard of him. Thanks to ConfuseaCat too while she's here. You both have good taste in movies. As for this one, I think Fellini should have had all Italian or American actors. The dubbing prevents it from being a true classic, imho. It would have been an all-time great. I watched it in Italian. The Basehart dubbing was awful, and the one for Quinn wasn't much better. I've also read opinions that "artichoke face's" dubbing in English isn't any better.
I completely agree with you. La Strada is a great film, dubbed or not. But I prefer the English version with Basehart's and Quinn's own voices. Thanks for watching
Just watched La Strada in Italian, it was great. But now hearing Basehart speaking with his own voice is so much better :) No disrespect to the italien dub
