  • Video is a little on the long side for us bandwidth miser's. I just caught a small rattler in my garage today. My cat had him pinned down behind some boxes on the floor. Easy to catch for those that don't like killing things. I just took a broomstick and snagged him and pulled him into a one of those plastic storage container thingy s you get at walmart and took him where he wouldn't bother anyone. My neighbors all kill them and get miffed at me for letting them go.

  • I almost got bitten by a rattlesnake when I was walking a trail outside Tucson.

Lying right close. I wouldn't describe them as beautiful, I think we'd be better off without them.

  • great sight and sound, its great that at least some people have respect for these animals.

  • Thank you for not demonizing the species. How far away were you? Was the snake aware of your presence?

I personally am terrified of them and am trying to get over it as I enjoy hiking in the desert hills at dusk and after dark. Oddly enough I have encountered rattlesnakes 3 times in my life. They never rattled at me or acted aggressive, at the same time they didn't seem very scared or did not make efforts to get away from me. In fact they just stayed put until I left the area.

  • Shoot it shoot it!!! I just kilt a rattler the other day... a shot through the head, and then through the guts... I dont really like them rattlers, but i like king snakes

  • @75Scout2Man hahah ya shoot it finally some one that does wut i do

  • Beautiful animal! You can see that this one only wanted to get away. They only react defensively when they feel threatened. They aren't the monsters that they've been made out to be.

  • very true

  • beautiful. snakes have creepy qualities and it makes them underappreciated

  • right

  • Very nice video! I love rattlesnakes and it's nice to see videos like this. :)

  • Thank you for your comment and thank you for caring about rattlesnakes. They are a very important part of our ecosystem. You might want to check out my rattlesnake playlist :)

  • Isn't that the deadliest rattlesnake in the country?

  • Yes, some say it is.

  • This video is much more respectable than the other ones on Youtube showing rednecks needlessly chopping off the heads of the snakes they encountered.

  • Thank you so much. That is my intention. If you liked this, please check out my others. Go to my channel and check on playlists. I have 10 rattlesnake vids in a playlist (diamondback, mojave, and sidewinder) that all pay tribute to this marvelous animal - Rattlesnake Goddess has the best close ups.

  • That is a beautiful specimen. I just got back from the Mojave because I'm writing a fiction work set out there, and I decided to put in a scene about a confrontation with a mojave rattler, and this video just really helped. Thank you!

  • Your welcome - I'm so glad! Thank you for watching. If you ever publish your work, I'd love to read it!

  • use a .22 wont destroy the nasty bastards hide

  • Can we do the same to you?

  • 12 GA. Lights out little f'er

  • i love rattlesnakes

  • He is eyeball to eyeball with a rattlesnake in the powdery moonglow of Mojave Desert. And he will shake, not from cold or fear ... but from some vague and elemental conviction about wholeness or harmony or immortality. He will shake, resolute in a belief in the exaltation of this moment, yet careful not to disturb the lethal snake on his chest... A Big Thank you to Waywardmuse and to Daniel Orozco for the experience of harmony with Mojave Rattlesnake ... and with you guys 

  • What a beautiful passage... Thank you and you're welcome! I love these snakes.

  • Beautiful snake.

  • ull be goin to hell for that comment

  • Yes it was. Thanks for watching!

  • She (it) is beautiful! I see alot of C.Atrox here in Southern Arizona, but not too many Mojaves

  • beautiful rippling snake...and its fat little poison glands are so cute. (jk)

  • sonn, you had yer dern opportunity to kill the friggin thang..and let it go, or ye ignorant???

  • Stunning video you have made, what music did you use its beautiful.

  • Thanks. Don't know the tune - a friend lent it to me from his royalty free collection.

  • Beautiful video, beautiful snake, and beautiful story... Thanks for posting :)

  • You're welcome. I rescue several snakes from our yard each year, and this one by far has been the most remarkable.

  • why does it say western diamond back? if this is a mojave it should say crotalus scutulatus

  • When I initially did it, I thought it was a diamondback until someone corrected me. I changed the title but never went back into the video to change the opening.

  • Thats strange. Why do some snakes have more venom than others? The mojave I read is one of the worst to get bit by. I also read not all rattlesnakes shake their rattles warning others to get away. Sometimes they just strike if your in the wrong place at the wrong time. For example, your walking in the woods, sit on a log to rest then BAM! Your bit. The snake was behind the log and saw you.

  • some mojave rattlesnakes, depending on the region, have high levels of neurotoxins in their venom, while others, like most rattlesnakes are mainly hemotoxic, affecting the tissue around the envenomation site, rather than the nervous system. The potent mojave (neurotoxin) toxin can potentially cause respitory failure if left untreated

  • nice

  • nice

  • The Mojave green is far more aggressive and dangerous than a traditional D-Back. It's definitely more venomous too.

  • beautiful rattlesnake :)

  • woooooooow i cant even see the snake and its amazin woow!!

  • u guys r so freaking LAMBS!!!(as in lame)

  • Very nice Mojave Rattler. Awesome footage.

  • thanks :)

  • heard that snake will take revenge on a person if that person injured it or missed killing it unfortunately. Is this true, anyone ?

  • Animal behaviorists (like most wildlife biologists) would say no. But cognitive ethologists might beg to differ. I've never heard of that happening, but ya never know...

  • Awsome snake.. I live in the Mohave desert keep track of four dens..catch and release them all summer ...what fun !!!

  • yuck u people who think it's nice ! well u would not think it so nice once it bites you !

  • Pretty good footage of a Mojave

Green. I got one on film, too. Check out my Desert Dogs, Episode 5. It's in the beginning scene.

  • I love this snake !

  • Rattlers are gorgeous! Aspiring to be sound minded enough to keep a hot, 2 years experience keeping non-hots and learning to hook, plenty more learning to do before I even contemplate keeping a hot. I love rattle snakes...

  • If you want to get really anal about it, it's a MoJave with a J. Crotalus scutulatus

  • Duly noted and changed (except for the title shot.) Thanks!

  • No problem :) Beautiful snake. Thanks for posting it.

  • Looks alot more like a mojave rattlesnake check the black and white bands on its tail

  • OOPS! I looked at my stills again and you're right! Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention -- I'll update the info!

  • that shot near the end where the snake's holding its head up is spectacular!
