@ranigema Dear Signora Ranigema. Chi sono io?, no one, but a very educated person that like to respect any other creature. Calme toi Nicola.
oh my God !! this singer of the "new generation" is awful!!! what a shame!!! if he wasn't with Anna Netrebko, no one would know this bad singer .............. I listened to him at La Scala in Milan as Escamillo (Carmen): he was boohed a lot!!
@salpaova Well, I agree that that particular Escamillo was not his finest hour, but to say that he is known only for Anna Netrebko is to be oblivious of the true story. When they met, Schrott was already singing leading roles on the main opera stages, and he is considered to be one of the best -if not the best- Don Giovanni of our time. I don't think that anyone can deny that he really shines in that role. Still, I agree with you that his La Scala's Escamillo is forgettable, to say the least.
Pappano and the Covent Garden first horn do a great job with the horn call at the end. (Some conductors, like Solti, either downplay this joke or practically ignore it.)
What a great idea it is: Figaro can't bring himself to say the worst thing he suspects, so Mozart's orchestra tells us what he's thinking, since traditionally horns = cuckold.
It's like Figaro is reacting to the horn calls in his head. And on the other hand the horn sounds like it's mocking Figaro for jumping to conclusions.
@thesafekind@thesafekind. Interesting note: saw Schrott this week at Covent Garden's revival of this production. This time his parting shot as the horn call sounds is to make the cuckold gesture - holding a finger from each hand up to the head.
It feels to me that he's brought a new focus to the part for 2010. Here, in particular, a mesmerising anger comes out and he addresses the final round of insults (witches, wolves, she-bears etc!) directly to the audience from the stage apron: terrific!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Erwin, when you have reached the dazzling heights of the fat opera singer with the beard and the outstretched arms, you will be allowed to comment-you still have a long way to go.
I was thinking of operas in which they would play the romantic leads. Strauss' "Arabella" would be a good one. "The Flying Dutchman" would probably be too heavy for Anna. "Onegin" is a real possibility. There are so few operas for soprano and baritone.
Did he lose a fair amount of weight just in the past year? Or is it just this costume making him look tubby in comparison to his extremely chiseled/naked Don Giovanni?
This aria really shows off what a gorgeous upper register he has ... he doesn't growl or strain at the high notes but sings them with a smooth, tenorlike quality. He needs to work on cleaning up the faster runs but overall a very strong talent. And it doesn't hurt that he's fucking amazing to look at.
