amen...this brother had to come out during the time he did because today his style of vocalization just might have not been taken too seriously..during those day there was an open mindset for creative unique vibe which I think might be lost today..Leone Thomas was not only a head of his time but he was in the right time to be him self...RIP..feeling da love..
THE LATE GREAT EAST ST LOUIS BROTHER AMOSIS LEONTOPOLIS THOMAS ALONG WITH PHAROAH,MCOY,TRANE,ELVIN JONES,RICHARD DAVIS,,,,,,,,,LIFTED OUR SPIRITS DURING THE DAYS OF THE BLACK REVOLUTION IN THE FIFTIES SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES,,,,,,,, WITH THE BPTRC AND THE BLACK PEOPLES LIBRARY SEKOU LARRY JOHNSON
(picks out fro....lites blue nile incense.....rolls up a fat one (zig-zag)....cuts on black light.....yea, now its complete.
thank you for posting this one. I had this album and thought I would never see it again. first time i heard this I was watching a young African girls dance troupe dancing to this.
first heard the great Leon Thomas at a club called Prohibition in London in the mid to late eighties, bought a few origionals on the flying dutchman label at a wicked record shop in San Fransisco called groove merchants, those were the days, his yodeling still leaves hairs standing on my back, can i hear an AMEN for Leon... R.I.P
Leon Thomas is on 2 Santana records: "Welcome" and "Caravansarai". These are amazing records, not like Santana's other work. He plays with John McClaughlin on some cuts. Flora Purim is on some cuts. I saw him live with Santana in 1973. The opening band was Tower of Power. Unique and spiritual, this man was.
Please check out' The Leon Thomas Anthology' CD (Soul Brother Records/UK). It's a wonderfully mystical album that is so beautiful it will elevate you to another dimension.

I first heard this masterpiece on WHFS-FM, 102.3, Bethesda, Maryland, back in the days of "Spiritus Cheese" and so forth. Unforgettable!

Leon Thomas, everyone remembers! Santana and Pharoah Sanders both chose this great man as a collaborator.
