  • well i have 4 versions of the movies, original, one of 1997 only fews changes were made like the song, the dvd ones of 2004 were, and the blu ray. Im still love stawars, in any format, i dont think there is something bad :)

  • Ok... if your talking about being true star wars fans... Im not sure how keeping the greatest series of all time on stupid VHS is a good idea... to me it was a HUGE surprise and a GREAT one in my opinion to see the actual anakin standing there.

  • @ToPoleaDK Not only that but the people who boycott this have the fattest nostalgic goggles on. Having the new Anakin was a great way to connect the series, because before these re-releases, the prequels and sequels dont even look like theyre under the same name.

  • Anakin is too old. When he died he's 48

  • Showing the younger Anakin is just...weird. Basically, Luke is the nearly the same age as his dad....

  • I was shocked in the 2004's change, but I just went with it after a while

  • If any of you were true star wars fans you would have just kept them on fucking VHS :P

  • @younggunsfan

    Or watch the Despecialized editions!

  • @younggunsfan Yeah, because watching movies on VHS in 2012 is really a thrill.

  • im not bothered by hayden in this scene. but i lov the ending music in the newer versions. its one thing where the remastered version is far superiour

  • This is why I'm keeping my VHS trilogy

  • Ah, the original. Shaw shows so much more warmth, like a proud father is looking out to his son, rather than the shitty alternative with Hayden Christensen staring creepily and smirking like Dexter about to kill someone.

  • The first thing isn't always better. People just attach themselfs to what they see or hear first, and they'll be like: "the first one was better" but that's only because that's what they saw first, wether it was actually better or not is irrelevant. Funny it is the people's mind ;)

  • I prefer the special edition where Shaw is replaced by Hayden Christensen.

  • so the end and the music is the only different from the original release and the Blu-ray one ?

  • @ramy5421 No! There are MANY differences between the original release and the blu-ray.

  • Everyone will agree that the newer song is better than the original.

  • @MoisesZTech Wow- you're wrong! ;-) If you bothered reading any of the comments here, you'd already know that.

  • @mielr That's really wierd. My uncle had the original VHS trilogy of Star Wars, and it wasn't that song playing :/ but it was Sebastion Shaw

  • @zavatar11 Yeah, that would be the '97 special edition.

  • Honestly i love the origonal star wars without all the remastering. but i hate that fuckin ewok song with a passion

  • I noticed this and was very confused. How could they have the episode 3 Anakin if the movie wasnt made yet? but now i know the truth, thank you.

  • I think that instead of making bullshit up about how anakin died when he turned into a jedi, they actually show his middle aged self when he was redeemed.

  • I think Qui-Gon should've been in there lol. Even though he had no relation with Luke, he's just a boss.

  • I think they should have both versions in Blu-Ray! They both have their own uniqueness and their own emotional appeal. Why make the fans choose? Just make both available and everybody is happy. ^^

  • @CJMStarlight1992 It would be nice if we even HAD a choice! It's either George's current "visions" of the films on blu-ray.....or the original versions on non-anamorphic DVD. :-(

  • @mielr it would be better if on the blu ray the 77 verisoin 97 verisoin and the 04 verisoin was seperate so you could watch them all

  • @mielr The only true ending. I just got both versions, took the blu-ray ones, cut the edited scenes out and substituted them with the original ones: I got myself the trilogy as it was, no silly CGI, no gay Christensen but 90% of it being anamorphic and higher quality ;-)

  • @flik221

I was thinking the same thing.

  • even in ghost world i dont understand how yoda and obiwan could forgive anakin for all the crazy terrible shit he did.

  • Why does Lucas always want to change his own original movies that are pretty good? Why does he have the need to kill his own great ideas?

  • @RileySkye100 lucas has turned to the dark side hes more business man now than filmmaker twisted and evil

  • Yeah because obi is old but anakin is young? This make no sense

  • I prefer this version, but comone the music sucks, the new music its more more more emotive and whith that music i almost cry.

  • george lucas, u will pay for your lack of vision!

  • Idk who i like more Sebastian Shaw or Hayden Christensen. I like Hayden because he is soo damn cute and that's the Anakin i grew up with. But i also like Sebastian because that's what Anakin would have looked like if he didn't burn and if he wasnt turned into Vader

  • Idk I kinda like the change. Anakin did die when he turned to vader. So excluding the vader appearance was appropriate

  • das mit hayden is viel besser

  • What is up with the blue thing on Luke's shirt??? I've always wanted to know...

  • @mrdeersniper That's a flap- it's buttoned up in part of the film so you can't see the reverse side, which I think is actually gray, not blue.

  • YES! OLD MAN ANAKIN! Fuck Hayden Christiansen!

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck Hayden Christiansen! Keep it original!

  • This version was way better then the newer version.

  • Honestly I like the newer music better, but they should've kept Sebastian Shaw. Don't fix that which doesn't need to be fixed.

  • its way cooler with Hayden. Much more powerful. Dont care that its not "original" im not gonna cry cause they changed some overweight middle aged man ghost to Hayden Christiensen.

  • I prefer this ending because it shows Shaw as Anakins Ghost and not Hayden. But I gotta say the music is better in the newer version.

  • that's not anakins ghost from movie. Anakin's ghost looked like anakin before he became a living barbeque

  • @kmdmpsy1 This is the original ending from 1983, with Sebastian Shaw as Anakin's ghost, but in the 2004 DVD it was changed to Hayden Christensen.

  • Comment removed

  • i don't understand why you fanboys don't tell Lucas yourselves to reedit the original missing footage with the newer stuff.

It's not that hard. You use your brains. You're much better than Lucas' think tank.

  • I haven't seen Episode VI for about 5 years. Just watched it today and I was like WTF? Is that actually Hayden Christensen? I don't think it's that bad, it ties them in a little more. And just remember, George could've done far worse things to the originals. Oh wait - you can hear a Gungan near the end... when they show Naboo you hear someone say "wesa free!" That's worse.

  • me gusta mas esta escena que la que pusieron con el joven anakin

  • what are the ghosts on the blu ray, cause. I heard that the ghost are all young!

  • Me: 'If this is not the ending to ROTJ that you remember, then your my enemy"

Some kid who saw Hayden instead of Shaw: "Only an old fan of Star Wars deals in absolutes"

  • what doesn't work is if someone watches the films for the first time Original trilogy first, they're gonna be like "who the fuck is that kid?!". And it just doesn't work with a young Anakin Skywalker with an Old Obi Wan and Puppet Yoda...also did I seriously see Hayden look at the camera and smile?...is Lucas trying to piss us off?

  • nah hayden was better

  • That is one of the disadvantages of Lucas having nothing else to do, LOL...it is like when you have something so succesful you dedicate yourself to polish it, day after day, even changing original things until those are replaced and no one remembers them. If Shaw was alive he would be saying "why the fuck did I bothered to act 5 minutes in this crap, if at the end they removed me as easy as removing a fucking band aid?" Kind of disrespectful, I may say.

  • I know why Lucas changed Anakin from Shaw to Hayden. He was implying that Anakin actually "died" when he became Darth Vader. I actually kinda of liked the new version. I mean, yes it was a little disrespectful to Shaw. But I don't bash it. I thought the change was cool.

  • too bad Qui-gon jim doesn't appear here

  • @PickyyConnor

i believe the younger Anakin was shown in the remake because that was before Anakin's character turned to the Sith Lord.

  • @redtib2003 Anakin died as Sebastian Shawn and not as (H)Gayden Christensen. No excuse possible.

  • replaced by christian bale

  • I first watched through all of the starwars after they had all came out (i watched them in chronological order.) and I cried in this scene in the newer version where it's the younger Anakin. It just linked the trilogies together for me and made it all the more powerful.

  • @arterialshadow I cried too- but for a different reason. ;-)

  • @mielr everyone who grew up with the real star wars trilogy cried when that atrocity happened. My husband got me the trilogy on DVD for Christmas when it first came out and then promptly left the room so I could watch and yell my frustrations Lucas's latest sell-out moment in peace.

  • @arterialshadow yes, but the original and the prequels should have never been linked to each other, so i think you just cried out of confusion.

  • @LifterC3 I liked that they linked them together. I guess it's just opinion-based.

  • @arterialshadow And it actually makes more sense that he would have his younger body snice he was killed at that age.

  • @bluethunder25 Nostalgic fanboys will use the excuse that since he killed the emperor he became Anakin at the end, but thats because they have to repeat everything they hear. 99% of them cant think for themselves, god forbid a change happens in their life, you'll never hear the end of it.

  • Why would Obi wan have to be old in force sprit and anakin get to be hayden christensen age? This ending all the wayy.

  • @Khbkb Nether would Luke recognize Sebastian Shaw. When Luke took off his helm vader (Anakin) had his face covered with cuts, bald, and as pale and white as snow it self. Wile as a ghost he grew hair, healed his cuts, and even got a little less...pale.

  • @Anigamesproductionyt well obviosly he did, if you look at his face, he smiles. So if the audience reckonized Shaw, then he did to, after all he had the same face and Luke is not retarded.

  • It's sad that the LD version will always be the best

  • the wink was so typical of 1980's

  • Keep Shaw, change that music.

  • Yes! Yes! This is the real end of Star Wars! Does anyone know the name of the song that plays at the end of the movie?

  • @LoveIsrael89 This music is officially called "ewok celebration", but we like to call it "yub-nub!" :-)

  • @mielr thank you so much!

  • Han fired first... and Haden should have been kept out of this

  • Not to mention George Lucas cutting half of Shaw's appearance from the movie posthumously just seems disrespectful to such a great actor.

  • By the way, anyone who's seen XMEN First Class notice the name of Kevin Bacon's villian? Yep, Sebastian Shaw! On purpose or coincidence?

  • @Madman007 The Mutant Sebastian Shaw was not named after the actor.

  • ok look, having old anikin makes sense, obi wan ages but not anikin?

the force once he died would have restored him,and if your going to use the argument that the force would make him young once he came back to the light, then obi wan needs to sue the force.

  • @stumpyale Really? HAVE YOU SEEN Star Wars Episod IV A NEW HOPE? Unlike Anikan who was young when he "Died" Obi Wan was already old! He died an old man!!! xD

  • I saw this ending in the the theaters in 1983, and I would like to see it on Bluray…at least someday, maybe. Slap in the face of the late Sebastian Shaw. Call me an Ewok-Lover, I still say the original music is superior. The way it slowly transitions from the Ewok Celebration tune to John Williams theme of the force. Luke wouldn't recognize his father as Hayden Christensen. Wouldn't Anakin's Force Spirit appear as the only non-Vader representation glanced by his son?

  • @khbkb That's an excellent point about Luke not recognizing his younger father. I can imagine him seeing "Hayden" and going, "Who is that?"

  • @Madman007 I'm sure others might try and justify this Obnoxious alteration by saying something like, "Luke would feel the Force Spirit of His Father, so it would not matter how Anakin Appears". PpppbbbbBFFF!

  • @khbkb Thank you! I agree the original (this) music was better. I also love the way the funeral pyre music transitions into the Ewok celebration music. Loved it in '83 - still love it in 2011!!!

  • @mielr Indeed. Using the apparition of young Anakin made no sense. Yub Nub will always be superior to the special edition ending.

  • surprised the faggots at FOX didn't remove this from youtube at the request of Lucas ... quick somebody save this to their hard drive for future proof !!!! lol

  • @disengagejam right, because violation of copyright is nothing serious at all...

  • Luke should have said "who the hell is this wise-ass"?

  • The new ending to RotJ makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever! Luke remembers the OLD Anakin because thats the one he actually saw. He never ONCE saw Hayden Christenson as his father, so how could he even make that connection? And how come its the young Anakin but the OLD Obi-Wan? What the fuck was Lucas thinking here? Oh well, after watching those terrible prequels, Im kinda used to this fuckin shit not makin any goddamn sense anymore!

Long live the ORIGINAL Star Wars trilogy!!!

  • i liked the new ending of this film than this 1

  • @CommentaryX I'm sorry, i thought your stupid brain would understand. I didn't think i would have to get all technical. DICK HEAD.

  • I still have the VHS of this... And it's still the best ending for it.

  • Agreed, Shaw + new music. It's a blast from the past to see this though. Why not just give us both options, George!?

  • @CommentaryX 4 5 and 6 are on blu ray. THE ORIGINALS.

  • Why the fuck would you boycott the blu-rays? They're for little kids with parents who don't have the movies, so they can see the originals.

  • I think Shaw did such an incredible job, it was an emotional scene when Luke saw his father for the first time. I kind of hate Lucas for not seeing how that scene made the movie. And editing out the original actor.

  • well....the reason they did this was cuz lucas..you know...the man who this beloings to....said that the ghost represented anakin before he fell...so this is a non canon appearance and is better :)

  • Opinion:They should have put the new music and when young Anakin appears it should change to Sebastian's Anakin so it represent the before the dark side and after the dark side(from young to old).

  • Eeeeeeeeeeew all the pro-special edition/prequel comments here really really make me want to start a flame war - must resist, turn away from the dark side. Once you start down the dark path of argueing with prequel lovers consume you it will, as they are so moronically stupid there is just no reasoning with them, and no end to their misguided foolishness.

  • So much for the boycott of the Blu-Rays, eh?

  • ?what new music - did lucas changed scenes in the blue ray vesion again? so many year later - so much changes - so boring - he killed the myth of star wars...

  • @chrome74 Is that really a spoiler?

  • This music IS THE BEST MUSIC. Im not being nostalgic or anything, but the new music is way too placid and low key for the defeat of the empire. They should be celebrating and rejoicing to the top of puppet lungs. The original music is very fitting and captures all that excitement. It should not have been replaced with something as soft and 'safe' and the new version. If anything it should've been ampted up! Like if you cant be fuked anymore!!!

  • all of this "when anakin turns young again he is restored to goodness" arguement would make sense, if we had EVER seen young anakin be anything other then a whiny, bitter, contemptable, idiot. as it stands this is just ridiculous.

  • you turds. new ending is SO MUCH BETTER! we can relate to anakin more cuz we saw him in 2 movies

  • @rustysporks I feel for you.

I think they should of on the blu ray release had two options 1 for the way it is and two for having it like the original but with updated sound and picture quality.

  • @ahobbit111 Exactly. How hard is it to include both versions of the movies?

  • Obviously alot of people are upset they went from sebastion to hayden. but I can understand why Hayden obviously played anakin in episode 2-3. and the reason he knew it was his father as the ghost was because of the force. Don't sue me I know alot of people are upset and I understand why that is my reasoning for what others have said to others on making comments on this video. I think they should of not changed something's others arent such a big deal to me the one that bugs the crap out of me

  • i lik the new ending WAY better!!!

  • Worst change ever.......what's next? Replace Alec Guinness with Ewan Mcgregor??? Fail, Lucas

  • Why wouod you boycott a release? Maybe Lucas just shouldn't have made Star Wars? Would that make you happy? Star Wars has satisfied generations, and he's making another one. we have our originals on dvd and vhs, its not like Lucas will take them away, if you dont like it, then dont get Blu Ray, simple as that. You ruin Star Wars.

  • what's the new blu ray ending for return of the jedi

  • well vader be came good be for he died and kill emperor and its luke look at them they way he seen them and, he never seen a young anakin

  • i was 6 when i watch star wars in its a original version in 70's ,its takes me back to a good time in my childhood and some time you need that as you get older!, so when you go change that it lose that feeling of something great. it was a different time and so something just DO NOT need to change it!! Its great the way it is ,its more then a movie and yes i do have the orginal v.h.s movies and toys to, and i still watch it !!

  • @iStaunchYou

I dont understand this argument. Why is this better? It\s ridiculous. The new one is more cinematic

  • I heard they took out Yoda...I pretended I was Vader and Darth Maul was behind me...

  • It's time to break the lawwwwwww - music at the end

  • i hope girls shave their yubnub!

  • I don't mind Hayden, shows him as pre-Vader when he was good, not an alternative to Vader.

  • Yoda was right, Lucas is a greedy little prick. George, leave the fucking film alone please.

  • Leia: What are you doing Luke?

Luke: Just tripping balls on Ewok weed Leia, just tripping balls...

  • sebastian Shaw is the true Darth^^

  • Comment removed

  • ah this version remind me of my childhood!

  • the music is SO much better than the nowadays version

  • best ending

  • I think it makes more sense for Anakin to be young in this scene. Anakin "died" when he switched to the dark side. Having young Anakin come back as the ghost represents a stronger change back to the light side than having old Anakin come back (which doesn't even make sense, he had his face burnt off, why would he look healthy? At that age he never looked like that).

I think we all agree that the new music is better, though.

  • @RustySporks No, we don't "all agree" about the music. ;-)

  • @mielr seriously we all dont agree about the music. old one is much better.

  • @mielr wow u prefer that music over the new one....hmm ok, odd music sense, but i respect it

  • @mielr I agree. I've always liked the Ewoks original victory song the best. "Ho-te, ta-che voo, YO-WAH! Ho-te, ta-che voo, YO-WAH! Celebrate with LOOOOVE!!" (Or that's it sounded like!). LOL!!

  • @RustySporks You're crazy, he's still alive and aging. Also the fact that Hayden is a terrible actor so he doesn't deserve to be in the originals.

  • @RustySporks Anakin became good again at the end of Return of the Jedi, though. So shouldn't he be old if he's reverting to his "good" self?

  • @RustySporks Ok...I will refrain from using copious amounts of swear words, but you, sir, are wrong. Your point about Anakin "dying" when he falls to the dark side makes sense upon first glance, but, he wasn't completely fallen, therefore, not completely dead. Luke himself said that there was still some good in him. Besides that, every single instance of Force spirits that we have seen in the series have the spirits coming back in the form they were in at the moment of their physical death...

  • @RustySporks I agree-Anakin and Vader are IMO two different people who happen to be in the same body

  • @RustySporks

I was going to comment about how I liked the original version of the ghost better, but after considering what you said I think you're right, it doesn't make sense because his body was broken after that fight with Obi-Wan, so yeah, I still would like to have Sebastian Shaw as the ghost (it fits better with Obi-Wan and Yoda being old) but you're right, it makes more sense having Anaking young

  • @RustySporks I agree for the music, but no, that dosen't make sense than the ghost of analin is young, the yound anakin, especially the hayden christensen one is the anakin who turned to the darkside, who killed everyone and was a dumbass. The old one is more appropriate because one : he died od, and two : it's the mature anakin who's go back to the light side, and was reconcile with his son and friends, and 3 : ghost dosen't keep scare.

  • @RustySporks The Whole point of episode VI is that Anakin turned back to the light side BEFORE he died. He became Anakin Skywalker again as an old man.

  • @RustySporks dear god no. the new music blows. when i got the dvd special edition box set i was offended by the crap they added before i even knew there was a big contraversy about it.

  • @RustySporks Completely disagree. Though it may baffle a little how his projection would age, he didn't really die when he turned darkside or he wouldn't have helped Luke take down the Emp. And I would take the Yub Nub song over the new crap anyday. Regardless, this is all dumb to argue about, it's more about the integrity of what we all grew up with and loved.

  • @RustySporks The new music SUCKS.

  • @RustySporks I guess you must have missed that insignificant scene at the end of Jedi where he finally regains his buried humanity while saving his son from the Emperor, and then symbolically takes off the Vader mask before he dies. I mean did you actually miss the whole point of the movie?

  • @cobrakai20 But thats bullshit, thats not reason enough for him to remain like that. Now that his spirit is back to normal he should look like he did when it was normal. By your logic, Anakin should have been a burnt up ghost. So yours really doesnt make sense either.

  • @RustySporks That's just not true, he physically died when Luke removed his helmet. Anakin was always really alive, but the dark side controlled his spirit. Sebastian Shaw never should have been removed from the film considering the fact that he played Anakin/Vader when the helmet was removed.

  • @RustySporks I think the new music is garbage and was shoe-horned into ROTJ just so Lucas could show off his pretty new CGI planets. It wouldn't make sense to show other planets celebrating to the Ewok's tribal music so they threw in some crap elevator music to show other planet's celebrating in a "one generic style fits all" approach.

  • @RustySporks I don't think it makes sense for Anakin to be young and having Obi-Wan old in the end. Sure Anakin 'died' when he switched to the dark side, but wasn't he 'reborn' when before he TRULY died? hence allowing him to take his most recent form upon dying? Young anakin ghost just ruins the whole chronology of the film now (in the newest installment).

  • IF anything he should be old because Return of the Jedi just PROVES that anakin wasn't REALLY dead, just in a very deep sleep; put out by the illusion of power that the dark-side promised. We all have our interpretations. Your opinion doesn't mesh well with my interpretation of the film. And I'm sure mine won't mesh well with yours.

  • @RustySporks Dude, Luke had no clue what his father looked like when he was young. Seeing this, Luke should have paused and looked puzzeled. "Who is that?"

  • @RustySporks you know nothing prequel lover!!!

  • @RustySporks I disagree. Anakin lived an evil life as Vader. He also redeemed himself as Vader. The two afforementioned points were critical to his being, and should thus carry over with him into the after life.

  • Comment removed

  • @RustySporks

He would look healthy because he's a GHOST now. He would not be affected by what happened to him while he was living. Why would Anakin not look healthy as a GHOST when he was burned while he was living? You're not making sense with that comment.

It would not be a stronger change because Anakin came back to the light side as an old man and he died an old man. Maybe Ewan Mcgregor should have come back as well by your logic.

  • @ooOmegaSupremeoo I have to agree with Omega...

  • @RustySporks let me guess your in honors english XD

  • @RustySporks

Old Anakin means that Darth Vader in the very end came back to the light side and abandoned the dark side. So just before death he was again a jedi and therefore the ghost is how he would have looked like when healthy.

Young Anakin means that he never became good any more and he died being evil.

I like the old Anakin ending better because it means that Luke indeed saved him. Saved from the dark side.

  • @RustySporks Stop making excuses. George Lucas has millions of dollars and all the time in the world to pursue new projects. Instead, he pisses it away on needless and horrible tweaks of movies that don't need any "improving."

  • @RustySporks

I think this change was for the best too. About the music, personally I like both versions, but the new is probably better anyway :)

  • @RustySporks The old ending music is a zillion times better than the newer panflute crap. Yub Nub FTW!!

  • @RustySporks I think it was supposed to be a statement of his rebirth into the light side as he died, thus having all his evil removed from his soul to what he always could have been...but that's kind of something that has to be pondered on rather that blatantly stated by the movie. There were a lot of ''make you think'' moments because back then, people possessed that ability. Of course, it's also probably because in the 70s, they weren't counting on Hayden Christensen screwing up Anakin. ;)

  • Nub nub!

  • and honestly i'm pretty much a dumbass becuz i actually thought that at the end when hayden shows up as a ghost it was part of the original 1983 movie and they just happened to cast a guy in hayden that looks identical to the ghost..then i felt stupid as hell when i realized that it actually was hayden
