From its inception, the NWA had a strong presence from Baltimore to Jacksonville. The Flair/Steamboat rivalry had been playing strong in the South since 1977, and Starcade '83 was in Greensboro, NC. For the period 1950-1984, the few times the NWA ventured into the Northeast were trips taken by the traveling NWA champ.

Crockett blew it when they took Starrcade out of Greensboro. That was the birthplace of Starrcade and when they moved it (did two different locations), the people in Greensboro took it personally.

There was nothing wrong with a double card, but, yes, they blew it when they moved to Chicago and had the undercards in G'boro and New Orleans (non-televised). As for Valiant, after this, he was pushed down the card at JCP. Some said that it was Dusty's doing. Valiant eventually left and returned to Memphis.

A week after Baron gave a promo where he said that Paul Jones had "hurt him in his heart". I remember that after Baron said that the crowd started cheering and screaming not for him but b/c it was time for a RocknRoll express match the next time we saw Baron he was escorting Boogie from the ring at Starcade 86.

That's why I loved the NWA and hated the WWF. It was so much more realistic and down to earth than the cartoonish crap the WWF presented. NWA had some muscleheads, but most wrestlers were just tough SOBs that wanted to fight.
