  • i hate the drive sound of box of rock so i use this one a booster for clean and gain boost

    and it work perfectly

    'Box of Boost'

  • Wonder want the pedal looks like?

  • i just love the tiny oscillations in the z.vex effects.

  • I bought this pedal a few days ago, and I must say, I just can't get enough of this awesome tone!

  • Would the box of rock sound good with a solid state amp? Thanks!

  • @savvyandskye it'll sound good with any amp, but to really experience it you gotta get a tube amp bro. no matter what pedal you put through a solid state, its gonna sound like the amp and not the pedal as much.

  • @savvyandskye No. Save your money and buy a tube amp.

  • i love my box of rock, but it doesn't really sound good at lower gain levels!

  • how did you do that in 2:06?????

    sound cool...

  • @AlexWolfking pinch harmonics

  • Box of Rock vs. Wampler Plexidrive would be a good run.

  • i so so so want tis pedal..

  • Future PGS Smackdown: Box of Rock vs Dimed Marshall JTM45

  • You should start selling "Video Catalogs", I'd buy them just to hear Andy playing all day long!

  • Holy shit Hüsker Dü!

  • @astricii yeah these guys know about good music

  • what song is it at 2:45-3:13? I'm loving that last chord!

  • @ProGuitarShop as a first distortion pedal wouldnyou choose this one or the ts 808?

  • @tippeltje118 A first dirtbox? This for sure if you're willing to spend so much. What amp/guitar combo are you running?

  • @Ilovemyfender2 i've just sold my boss me-70 so i got enough money and i play on a fender jazzmaster and a vox ac30c2. Right now i think i'm going to buy the ts-808.

    thx for the reaction.

  • @tippeltje118 Look into a crowther audio hotcake. They are PERFECT for AC30s. The TS808 is really muddy, avoid it.

  • I just tried this out but there was some crazy feedback when i turned up the gain. The gain on the amp was at 9 o clock only and I was pretty far away from the amp. Anyone help? I really like the sound of this pedal but its like crazy feedback man...

  • @Shaun7189 like a squeal? maybe you have microphonic pickups

  • Comment removed

  • I kinda want to build a clone of this pedal... Then I'd be shamelessly ripping off a shameless rip-off (Box of Rock) of a shameless rip-off (JTM45).

  • Riff Raff!!!

  • i like the riffs around 4:07-4:20

  • I love the Tattoo riff.

  • Does the Boost come before or after the Drive section? :-)

  • @JohnJeevasingham It depends. If you place the booster before your overdrive, it will give you a gain boost. If you place the boost after your overdrive, it will ad a volume boost,

  • What song starts from 3:45?

  • With that volume boost knob can this pedal be used like a power attenuator?

  • @edmiglia no this goes before the amp not after

  • at 2:04 I was like, "whammy!"

  • how do you active true bypass?

  • HUSKER DU! YEAH!

  • so the boost side is a gain boost when the drive channel is on? and a volume boost when its on by itself? cool!!!

  • @TacooGrill no its not its just a volume boost

  • @collzxc unless this video lies, it is a gain boost. Hear the massive step up in gain at 2:54

  • @ANIMVL

I have this pedal. It's definitely a volume boost. It's just a really, really powerful one. So powerful that it hits the input of your amp with a signal so big it distorts. It is a volume boost though - you just can't tell through the video because it's a youtube video. Play it yourself and then tell me it's not a volume boost.

  • I'm almost tempted to get one for no other reason than....."Who plays Husker Du for sound clips!, especially one of my all time Husker Du faves ' Pink turns to Blue'. In a perfect world Husker Du would have been just as popular as The Foo Fighters. Everytime I see the Foo Fighters they remind me soundwise so much of Husker Du. Actually bought the Box of Rock already yesterday before seeing any of these videos about it on youtube. Havent even played thru it yet. I think its time too tho.....

  • is it all the zvex vexter pedals have a 9v boss power supply in as well as the battery?

  • nice husker du

  • I'm sorry but this just doesn't sound like a JTM45. Cranked tube-rectified JTM45s have smooth distortion.. The distortion on this sounds like the distortion from a JCM series marshall but with a JTM45-similar EQ

  • @skurtix. I've owned a JCM800 and nearly always play on the JTM45 model (cranked) of my Pod and I can tell you that it sounds more silmilar to a dimed jtm45 than the crunch of a JCM. A lot more bluesier and very saturated.

  • @MaartenIB I have several JTM45s. Two originals: One offset logo and one later, and a clone. The line6 model isn't very accurate.

JTM45s just doesn't break up like the box of rock does if the JTM45 has the proper KT66 output tubes.

I still think the box of rock sounds damn good though.

  • Hey Andy, whats the song at about 4:40? Thanks!

  • @Freeptom

4:40 is "Tattoo" by The Who.

  • Hüsker dü at 3:45 ;-) nice!

  • @SonicStrings My initial thought was Mission Of Burma, but you may be right and I may just be getting old and senile!

  • This pedal sounds like you plug into an amp, not a pedal. Sounds fenomenal! The boost section makes this one much nicer than the Distortron pedal.

  • Aside from being a kick ass pedal, nice work on the Angus, Schenker, Mould, Townsend riffage. PSG rules!!!!

  • @lobot666 - PSG?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos , typo, my mistake! ProGuitarShop (PGS) Rocks!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Paris Saint Germain!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos You know, Pro shop guitar!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

    Paris Saint Germain.

  • @mrsomewhere666 hahahhahahaha

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos ProGuitarShop

  • tattoo!!!

  • Pink Turns to Blue. Awesome.

  • Hey I was wondering, this pedal sounds awsome. Is the boost-side suitable to crank an allready distorted amp up? I like my amps natural drive, but i love to turn down the gain on my amp and tighten the sound with an external overdrive. Doubting between a cliché TS9, an OCD or the boost side of this, with the distortion side as a bonus...

  • ooooh boy i love this pedal to death! my gf got this for me for xmas (from PGS of course) and its the best distortion pedal i've ever own!

  • Hi Andy. I was wondering what overdrive pedals you like best with the 1987x that you use sometimes? I have an old JCM800 1987 (I sent the 1959RR back) that is very bassy with a very 70s tone. I want to be able to push it into the '80s by getting a bit more tightness, focus and Viv Campbell Holy Diver style snarl. Any suggestions? Great vids BTW (can you demo more pedals into dirty amp though?)

  • riff raff :)

  • This pedal is really ugly

  • Shit. $200 though. Worth it I'm sure, but I dunno if I can shell out that much for one single pedal.

  • It's actually 2..

The Boost portion is entirely independent based on the SHO circuit..

  • True, so I suppose that makes up for the price point. But then again it's only one box, if it were two boxes then it's feel more like it's worth it

  • @INF3CT3DHAMPST3R I think it is well worth it, though. SHO sparkly clean boost as well as a kickass MSIAB tone, you can't go wrong.

  • hooray! you finally did a Zvex video!!! do the box of metal or the wah probe!!!

  • i love my box of rock. it's a GREAT ac/dc style 'dirty but not distorted' pedal.

i use one of these and a BYOC shredder with an double looper pedal to get all the marshall sounds i need :o)

  • they cost soooo much :(

  • Riff raff is such a great song

  • Hey Andy, just a proposal for your next blind-eye test. This one against the M.I. Audio Crunch Box... I already own the 2nd and I think it smokes the BoR. But perhaps that's just me...

  • still a litttttle thin. overall great pedal. wouldn't buy it though.

  • From what I've heard, they're VERY beefy in person. People even complain about the massive amount of low end being too much for their amps and it sounds mushy.

  • Agreed, with mine I had the tone cranked or at 3 o clock because of how mushy it got otherwise. Great pedal though, its fucking loud.

  • Wow, haven't heard the old AC/DC Riff Raff in minute. I love that song!

  • Honestly, I wonder if a Xotic BB+ wouldn't be more interesting for me. I often use more creamy tones, such as the woman tone, the bluesbreaker Clapton tone and plexi high gain tones (of course with a good LP). There's only a little difference of price and I'd have all the tones I need in only one pedal. What's your opinion about it ?

  • @jp6l6 The new Xotic BB Preamp MB (Mid Boost) sounds like it might be right up your alley seing as how the tone is a little more flexible with the mid control.

They are both great, but I like the BB too.

  • Y'know what Andy should do? Put a list of all the songs that he plays in the info. It saves a whole lot of mess trying to figure it out.

  • @holuj49

First person that guesses all the tunes gets a 10.00 off coupon?

  • unbelievable tone at the end! reminds me of a Joe Bonamassa strat tone

  • RIFF RAFF!!

  • I smiled and laughed the moment i heard this pedal. WANT!!!!

  • That thing absolutely nails the Riff Raff tone.

  • Good to know Andy is at my service.

  • nice :)

  • Did I detect a hint of Sparklehorse?

  • riff raff!

  • AC/DC RIFF RAFF FTW

  • I really like the Zvex pedals, sound fantastic.

    Great demo.

  • O_O

  • UFO!! Too Epic Riff

  • Its an ok Overdrive but its really overpriced

  • Really? I think it is a bargain. Best pedal I ever bought.

  • Thats not distortion! XD

  • "to hot to handle"

  • Tatoo :)

    Love that song...

  • AWESOME!

  • RIFF RAFF ALL DAY

  • I think it's about time for some more PGS smackdowns!!!!!!!

  • hey andy i found this Demo a lot better than the older one...

Great Pedal. i owned one but i sold it for the Rothwell... i like it more.. idunno why it sound better with my 62 Strat

  • its based on a fairly low gain amp so its not meant to sound like a jcm or anything.

  • RIFF RAFF!!

  • I like the AC/DCish tone it puts out.. could do with some higher gain though

  • true

  • I think the most impressive thing about these PGS demos is that I dont think i've ever heard andy play the same lick twice.

  • He plays this one really cool riff a lot whenever he demos or uses fuzz. I love it, but have no idea what song it's from...

  • @tremalow I know, RIght?

  • @tremalow I never thought of it, but you're right....I never hear the same licks or riffs twice either! PGS has the "best" demos to me....more detail and info than others....esp. world music supply....they can be a joke sometimes!

  • Sounds like a Bad Religion song @ 1:43 you can buy it like Mint/New for $120 just gotta go on craiglist, ebay, etc. I rarely pay Full price for pedals unless its out of print.

  • out of print? dont you mean out of production?

  • @ASTROAVERY Well yes out of Production would be the correct wording, i just got use to saying out of print and most people understand what i'm talking about. XD I think i might start using out of production, it makes more sense.

  • RIFF RAFF!!

  • lul hard on circuit

    #1

  • muy expensivo, even at half the price of the other one

  • So... what's the difference between this one and the other one tested on PGS?

For the jcm/jtm type of sound...

    LOVEPEDAL Purple Plexi 800

    ROTHWELL Hellbender

    ZVEX Box of Rock

Which one best for leads? Rhythm + solo tone.

Just wanting some opinions I know tone is a matter of personal taste :)

    Regards

  • I luv z.vex effects. Too sad they're expensive...

  • what was that first ac/dc song u played
