This IS where it all started! This may very well be the original FUNK song! Don't get me wrong. I'm all about the P-Funk sound, Bar-Kays, Al Hudson & One Way, etc. But 1978 with this Bass line and sound. This is it!!!!! What the hell happened to real R&B music?
@joeskaterAZ: Unfortunately, REAL R&B/Soul music that people like you and I loved has been replaced by the same hip hop artists who have saturate the airwaves by appearing on everyone's music (Lil' Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake).
I think this jam was a few years ahead of it's time! This was the type of sound you heard '80 thru '83 from Bar-Kays, One Way, Zapp, Lakeside, all of the Heavy BASS FUNK groups from that era and this was 1978! What a jam this was!
Its gettin harder and harder to find any good music on the radio unless you listen to classic soul stations. I liked hip hop up until about the time Biggy and Tupac died.
I remember going to a school assembly in the 6th grade to watch a group perform international music complete with costumes. All the kids were sitting there trying not to laugh or fall asleep. Then for their last song they came out dressed in three piece pimp suits playing "All the way live" and the whole assembly jumped up and started dancing. i'll never forget that as long as I live.
But it's not really the younger generations fault. I start placing the blame on mid-80's when synths became more used and schools started to take away music, art and dance funding. This also added to the era of the individual...solo artist were the way to go and so went the band. The ego's come in play and sad to say that we won't have another era where the soul band have a bond and a struggle together. The only other band currently i know of is the Roots

I went to South Oak Cliff High School with the drummer for this group, Fred Alexander. He played in our band. Good guy!

Live at the Bayfront Center 1981.
Along with The Whispers and Shalimar.
There was also a female singer who was the opening act -and for the life of me I have not been able to remember her name all these years.
Anybody remember??
(And no, I'm not talking about Jodi Watley)
