  • and this video is amazing! Love the Suicide picture in there

  • This song struts--

  • When this came out back in the 70's, I was 18 yrs old and growing up in the streets of NYC, this song is right on target, especially with "turn on a street pump and cool me off"

  • Fantastic song

  • heard this tune on Life on Mars- wonder why it doesn't get any air time where I' from.

  • damn, never thought the original version sounded like that, just heard the circle jerk version before

  • thanks Gary very good video " wild in the streets" see ya at the riv

  • Can't tell you how much I love this song

  • Outstanding song and video. Others attempt it, but GJ is still the greatest - untouchable. The beginning is amazing. Will see him tonight on Letterman with Mark Bosch and James Mastro who play with the magnificent Ian Hunter.

  • The most amazing video (on FILM- YES!) I have ever seen. Garland- this is truly amazing! Im a filmmaker working on a 1970s style gritty cop/karate film and shooting it in 16mm. Your 'filmeo' truly inspires me- thank you. -M Van Michaels

  • WhAt ArE YoU LoOkIn At?

  • Amazing, thank you so much Garland.

  • Now accepting donations to build a time machine to travel to 1970's NYC.

  • Saw the Leslie West Band do this amazing song live back in the 70's; it's one of those unforgettable tracks. Wonderful vid, too.

  • great !! Chris speding love it ! ?.

  • I like they way you have Joey and Dee Dee in some of your pictures. Cool.

  • I'm more familiar with the Circle Jerks - you can see how this is a nice change for me. Though I'm not just some ignorant Punk.

  • 3 people need a drugstore to cure their cough

  • So love this song. The perfect summer song. A whole new generation (my daughters) are now turned on to this. They are also thrilled to know that the Brecker Brothers are fellow Cheltonians. Thank you Garland!

  • just read about ya in M magazine..i remember this album..great song..

  • I thought this was the Rolling Stones when I first heard it.

  • Wow. What an amazing song. For years I thought the Circle Jerks wrote this song and it was one of my favorites. This version is just much more amazing (although the Jerks really did a great homage).

I'm glad I found this song, and I'm definitely going to buy the record. Rock on!

  • Great video that brings the essence of New York. Yeah, it sounds like the best song the Rolling Stones never recorded! The album (Ghostwriter) it came from is very, very good, with a lot of different styles, great musicianship, and top notch songwriting by Garland Jeffreys. My other favorites from that album are Why-O, Spanish Town, and New York Skyline.

  • I'm not going to lie, I became aware of your song b/c of the Circle Jerks cover... Thanks to them, I now know you(r music).

  • GOT IT!!!!!! ON VINYL!!!!!! STILL NEED A DRUGSTORE TO CURE MY COUGH!!!!!

  • Happy Mother's Day to David Peel..But thank you Garland for years of amazing music....I put right you right beside Willy DeVille and Bill Chinnock .. two others who never got their proper due........

  • Just read about you in the NY Daily News - hadn't finished the article before I found you on here! Great Job!! Great visuals sad that radio is so pigeonholed!

  • ghostwriter! my favorite is "spanish town", and "35mm dreams".

  • Damn, I remember this song, but I had no idea who did it. Look at all the great names on this!!! Amazing! Thanks so much!. 8-)

  • I just heard you on Soundcheck and you sound better than ever. Thanks for the memories. I hope to see you play again.

  • Is today your birthday, Garland? Someone just posted that.. and I really didn't know who you are.. this is a great song! It sounds like Mick Jagger is maybe just a Garland Jeffreys imitator!

  • one of the best ever songs about new york, even if it doesn't say so in the lyric...never get tired that beat!

  • one of my all time favorite tunes - THANK YOU for the power your relay through it!

  • Awesome song, great video. I'm 37 years old, and since I was 14, I always thought this was just a Circle Jerks song. Glad I finally found out about this.

  • wow what a blast from the past

  • Love this song. An anthem. I don't know why it never became a hit. I also never knew that David Peel was on this.

  • i worked at a progressive fm radio station and this song is a prime example of the Best of that

  • A classic 70s NYC tune !

  • I couldn't have thought of a better video for this song and of a better song for this video. They're perfect for eachother and together make a masterpiece!

  • Very cool images of NYC.

Reminds me of my first visit as a kid in the early 70's.

    Love it.

  • I had the album when it first came out! Great to hear again!

  • Happy belated Thanksgiving to you Mr. Jeffreys!

This kind of reminds me of Mick Jagger! Did Mick have anything to do with this record?

  • WOW! I've always loved this tune -and now I see this fantastic montage. Who made this video? It is a masterpiece!

  • So great to find this again.

  • This is a blast from the past. Remember listening to WFNX 101.7 FM play Garland back in the 1980s. I remembered him this past weekend was glad to find this on YouTube. Thanks for the post.

  • such a rare combo: brilliant song + brilliant video

my greatest musical discovery of 2010

  • My new fav song and vid. Thanks!

  • Is that David Peel from the Lower East Street Band, David Peel?

  • way cool

  • This is cool

  • Maybe it's because I'm an idiot, but I prefer the Circle Jerks version.

  • Excelent song!@

  • This is, by far, the best video I've seen on Youtube and of the best "music videos" I've ever seen. The song is outstanding (of course!) and the video does it justice. It conjures up an entire world, now lost but never forgotten. Whoever made it knows what it's all about.

  • please please please post a copy of guts for love ..class

  • men i grow up with this song back in the days in Bronx

  • I must concur... Obviously GREAT song... but also the video is wonderful, complimentary, and evocative.

  • WHO MADE THIS VID? siiiiiiick!

  • Sun setting on a June Friday evening...driving home from work...windows down..warm air flowing in...ready to get outta the cage and get into the night..."Wild In The Street" playing loud....yeah, there's hope tonight....

I'm 50 now and still get the same feeling....yeah, hope holds strong. Thanks Garland.

  • Best song he ever wrote

Glad someone finally put it out here

  • Hit me! Hit me! Hit me! Ya! Ya! Ya! Rah! Rah! Rah! Hit me! I'm a dancin' fool right now! Look at me world! Garland Jeffreys has put ants in my pants! Ants with a groove! I love it! I love it! What a decadent moment! Wild baby! Wild!!!!!!!

  • yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @snappa222

    Garoooovy!!!

Yeaaah: "Turn on the street pump to cool me off"!!! i'd go for THAT political program...

Together with this outstanding video, this is such a wake-up call to the lymbic system (the one that makes you dance the limbo)!

20 years ago (when I was 30 years younger) I preferred the version of Chris Spedding's album "Hurt". It's faster, but almost equally cool. (NOT on the tube!!!!)

  • The Rolling Stones song Miss You sounds alot like this. The Stones must have been influenced by this song.

  • Saw him open on Lou Reed's Transformer tour in '72 and he blew everyone away. That first LP is outstanding too.

  • WHO MADE THIS VIDEO?

it is absolutely amazing, and so is the song; and the combination of the two, just perfect

  • Heard this song on "life on mars" and absolutely loved it.

  • the personal list alone is incredbily impressive... not to speak of the song ;)

  • what did david peel do on this track? provide background vocals? shake a tambourine? or is it some "non lower east side" david (lower east side) peel certainly isn't much of an instrumentalist. or is it some "non lower east side" david peel who played on this?

  • Yes, David Peel and his crew did indeed sing on the chorus with other singers and we mixed them all together to create a special sound!

  • C00L!!

  • Nice one!!!

  • Nice Track!!!

  • Really nice Track!!!Thanks for posting!!!

  • bella!!!! :))))

  • Nothing like hearing one of the most beautiful son of Uncle Sam ... like a shot of sun in the heart ...

  • This all-time fabulon was covered by one of the mega-great punk bands, the Circle Jerks. Later, the ultimate in non-talent, the superb trickster, Bon Jovi, slimed something with the same title. Rock'n'Roll could not have done without Garland's WITS.

Bon Jovi, the rancid anchovee (sorry, fish), did its best to ruin the anthemic value.

  • @lumpagogo

Yeah I think Bonjovi is about the most overrated garbage band ever too.

However his Wild In The Streets is a completely different song.

Helix & WASP also have songs with this title

The title is one of those titles that is popular.

Think of the title "This Time"..Bryan Adams, Tracy Chapman, Starsailor, John Legend.

Anyhow this Wild In The Streets is an absolute classic.

As far as the video goes it is amazing.

This is why MTV was initially created.

So sad what it has become.

  • This is the first Garland Jeffreys song I heard. I still love it.

  • I wish i could say, its a good video ~

but its Excellent !! love the 70's flashback

    Garland always and forevermore

  • Cool,I Like this Clip!
