Wow! I love that there is some hip and belly movement in this dance. I am new to belly dancing, tribal style especially, and I have been slightly dismayed by the lack of the "belly" in belly dancing. Even groups that I love, such as Unmata, don't seem to have a lot of hip movement. Of course, this is my opinion.

In any event, wonderful performance. You are coming to FL for Tribal Solstice and Lotus Dance Studio this June and I will do my best to attend your wksp.

this piece says to me that there is something inherently strong in the female form, confidence and grace give our bodies power and convey meanings other than simple sexuality or pleasing the eye. Perhaps as dancers we should all take a little of this into our art - not to just paint pretty pictures with our bodies but to give substance to them with our presence and emotion

The beginning isn't boring. What's amazing about her style of dance is that it is truly tribal fusion. It combines traditional bellydancing, Latin folk dance and African dance. What she does at the beginning is very important. She MUST first clear the space (dance is spiritual), she is then paying homage to the ancestors and with her body she asks them to "work" (dance) through you. She's less of a performer and more of a spiritual manifestation of those before her.
