@WuWarPigz You've docked your 'text media' window behind some other window. That's why you don't see it. To find out where it is, view my YouTube video 'find lost windows in Sony Vegas'.
@WuWarPigz You may have dragged the text media window completely off the Windows desktop. If you did that, you'll have to change the Windows screen resolution to a larger resolution, then drag the text media back onto Movie Studio. Then get in the habit of closing the text media window using the corner x, rather than dragging off the screen.
ALT+D, D resets the Screen layout to default in Movie Studio 10 & 11.
@ecorico22 The text track is the same as a video track. To insert, right click in the left control area of the top video track and choose 'insert video track'.
Then move that track to the top - above all other video tracks. If you want, you can label the track as text.
@GoldenfireHD You may have docked the Text Media screen behind another window or tab. To see if that is the case, view my YouTube video, 'Finding lost Windows in Sony Movie Studio'.
@GoldenfireHD If you can't find by moving the tabs around, you may have moved the text media window completely off the windows desktop. In that case, you may have to change the Windows display size so you can move the window back onto Vegas.
If you are using Movie Studio 10 or 11, try 'view', 'windows layouts', 'default layout'.
Hi, I would love some help! I use Pro 9 or 10 I think and when I put the text in the corner in my video and then save it it jumps in to almost the middle but when I play it in Sony Vegas it's in the corner, why is that? :(
@guerillabill Thank you :) I got it now! I have another thing too! How can I seperate a video's sound from the video. Because I want to delete the muisc track but not the video! How can I do that?
@guerillabill Yes, but the timeline for the text has to be above the video timeline, Ive tried to put itunder the sounds timeline but It wont appear. Does it have to be next to the videos timeline?
@GamerzTrap The timeline for text has to be above all other video timelines - because the text must lay on top of the video. Video is stacked by top to bottom of the timelines.
@fluffywow It is likely the text box is docked behind one of your tabbed windows. Instead of popping up on the screen, it remains in its docked location. To resolve this see my youtube video 'finding lost windows in Sony Vegas'
@JeetnDury Put your mouse on the left control area of the top video track, right click and choose 'add new video track'. This will add an empty video track above other video tracks. Use that one to add text.
@faridjabba After you right click and choose 'text media', a window should open an allow you to add text. If the window doesn't appear, it's probably docked behind another window. To fix this, see my YouTube video, 'find lost windows in Sony Vegas'
what is the easiest way to upload a video from sony vegas to youtube? I switched the format to wmv, and it deleted my title from the beginning of the video, which ended up cutting out about 5 seconds of the video.
@WhiteXHysteria Use 'render as', choose the wmv filetype, and render to a new video file. Then go to YouTube and use the 'upload video' button at YouTube to upload the video.
@weymarie If you have placed the text media on the top track, the text will overlay video tracks below it. There will be no background color on the text media track, unless you set a background color in the text media options.
@guerillabill Hey um when I insert the text, it has a black background that covers up my video. How do I make it not have a background and just have text?
@X8xScoutx8X The default setting for text media is to have a transparent background. In the text properties tab is where you set the background color and the transparency level. Move the transparency slider on the background color all the way to the bottom.
@rem0rsele55 It works exactly the same way in all versions of Vegas. If the text doesn't appear, it usually means you didn't create a new video track and place it above all other video tracks, and add the text to that track, the very top one on the timeline.
@HuNtZZGamestyle Adding text, as long as you don't specify a background color, should have no effect on your video brightness or contrast - unless there is a problem with the source video format or codec.
@HuNtZZGamestyle When you render video and it goes black, it usually means the video is some form of mpg/mov and you don't have the correct video codec to render it.
@DJTheSpeedfreak Make sure the second video track is not muted. Also if your source video clip is mov/mp4 or divx/xvid, it may be too compressed to render into video
@VanMedia To keep windows external after you drag them away from the Tabbed area, resize the windows so they are larger, position them where you want them to open next time, and close them with the x in the upper right corner of the window.
@guerillabill how do i add text or after the a clip but not on the clip itself? for example, you black screen intro that says "adding text titles.." how do i do something like that?
@guerillabill thanks alot , thanks exactly what i needed. i had a problem where i wanted to put the text in front of the video but then i have to move all clips. idk that there was a auto-ripple button, that's alot!
@guerillabill i have another question, how do i restore defaults value to something i changed. for example i changed the placement and orientation of a picture, but i do not remember the defaults, where's the button to restore defaults? also how do i make it so that the text media window remains as an external window ratherr than become apart of the workspace whenever i drag it to the top? is there a button to lock it so it does no integrate with the other windows if i drag it by accident?
@VanMedia If you use pan & crop to change the placement and orientation of an image, open pan & crop, right click and select 'restore'.
To keep all windows external after dragging them away from the tabbed area, use the x in the upper right corner to close the window. This will cause the window to open at the location on the screen where it was closed.
@AlexKnightaz There isn't really such a thing as a text track. Just use the top video track to add text. If the top video track is already in use, right click and choose 'insert video track' to add another. And move that track to the top of the timeline.
@vietsoldier01 Place text on top video track, and don't place anything in the video tracks below. This will create text on top of black.
Or if you want to control the background color, choose 'media generator' tab, choose 'solid color', and drag a solid color to the video track below the text track.
the video media generator doesnt come up if i drag text into the timeline or if i insert it the way u did it....... it worked once before but now its not giving me the option to edit the text.... if u can help inbox me please xx

i have a problem i insert text media in sony vegas but the video event effects dont pop up neither does it pop up when i right click it and click on the option to edit the words.. could you please tell me how to solve this?

@KawaiiTessa You may have docked the Video Event FX window behind another window in tabbed area. In that case, the window may be opening, but you may not be able to see it.

@whitebub You can use chromakey to place a background behind you. To see how to do it, view my YouTube video 'Chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD '
For moving backgrounds, search google for 'chromakey backgrounds' or 'virtual sets'
@kingbooforums Right click on your clip and choose 'insert video track'. Then move the new video track above your existing video track. Then insert text in that track.
@vizard9800 If the text is on prerecorded video, you can't get rid of it. But you can use pan and zoom to move it out of the image, or you can overlay your own text on top of the existing text.
Thanks!

@TrainmanEvan You have to put the text on a video track above all other video tracks, else the text won't show.
Easiest way to do this is to add a new video track, and move it to the top above all other video tracks, and place just text on that top video track.

RoboticRedneckk 1 year ago
@RoboticRedneckk For text to be visible, it needs to be added to a video track above all other video tracks.
If you add it to a track that already has video on it, the video on the track, won't be visible.
The track name doesn't have to be text - it can be any video track that is above all other tracks on the timeline.

@ILikeWeatherGuy You may have docked the Video Event FX window behind another window in tabbed area. In that case, the window may be opening, but you may not be able to see it.
See my YouTube video 'finding lost windows in Movie Studio' to see the solution

hey i right click at the begging it dosnt come insert text media
so i went insert above and clicked insert text media but the text gets seperated to the video or picture
MrMrbeanscar 1 year ago
@MrMrbeanscar You need to have your mouse pointer on a video track when you right click, to see the 'insert text media' option.
Make sure you place the text on a video track above all other video tracks.

@whitebub You can create animated lower thirds using the media generator in Sony Vegas, transitions and pan & crop.
Or just search google for 'lower thirds'. I also have an article on my web site about how to create lower third backgrounds
guerillabill 1 year ago
@whitebub You can use chromakey to place a background behind you. To see how to do it, view my YouTube video 'Chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD '
For moving backgrounds, search google for 'chromakey backgrounds' or 'virtual sets'

I cant do this theres no room above my clip!

@kingbooforums Right click on your clip and choose 'insert video track'. Then move the new video track above your existing video track. Then insert text in that track.

how do you insert a text track? (got SV9 for project, so I have no clue)
THISNAMEOWNS 1 year ago
@THISNAMEOWNS A text track is the same as a video track. No difference.
To insert a video track, put your mouse on an existing video track, right click and select 'insert video track'

do you know how to get rid of texts on the video?
vizard9800 1 year ago
@vizard9800 If the text is on prerecorded video, you can't get rid of it. But you can use pan and zoom to move it out of the image, or you can overlay your own text on top of the existing text.
