  • Thanks!

  • Hey when i go to add text media nothing happends it does not let me edit it and just comes out as sample text any 1 no what could be wrong

  • @WuWarPigz You've docked your 'text media' window behind some other window. That's why you don't see it. To find out where it is, view my YouTube video 'find lost windows in Sony Vegas'.

  • @guerillabill Thanks for the response but i cant seem to find it is there any way to restore to original settings? thxs

  • @WuWarPigz You may have dragged the text media window completely off the Windows desktop. If you did that, you'll have to change the Windows screen resolution to a larger resolution, then drag the text media back onto Movie Studio. Then get in the habit of closing the text media window using the corner x, rather than dragging off the screen.

ALT+D, D resets the Screen layout to default in Movie Studio 10 & 11.

  • @guerillabill thank you that was the problem ur better than sonys support section lol

  • does anyone know how i can insert a txt track?? i deleted the ones on the project before realizing i needed one.

  • @ecorico22 The text track is the same as a video track. To insert, right click in the left control area of the top video track and choose 'insert video track'.

Then move that track to the top - above all other video tracks. If you want, you can label the track as text.

  • thanks alot! god bless you!

  • I NEED SOME HELP QUICK! WHEN I CLICK "INSERT TEXT MEDIA" THE VIDEO MEDIA GENERATOR DOES NOT SHOW UP! HELP ME PLEEEAASE

  • @GoldenfireHD You may have docked the Text Media screen behind another window or tab. To see if that is the case, view my YouTube video, 'Finding lost Windows in Sony Movie Studio'.

  • @guerillabill omg thanks man your awesome

  • @guerillabill `nevermind what i said to you.... i cant find it

  • @GoldenfireHD If you can't find by moving the tabs around, you may have moved the text media window completely off the windows desktop. In that case, you may have to change the Windows display size so you can move the window back onto Vegas.

If you are using Movie Studio 10 or 11, try 'view', 'windows layouts', 'default layout'.

  • Hi, I would love some help! I use Pro 9 or 10 I think and when I put the text in the corner in my video and then save it it jumps in to almost the middle but when I play it in Sony Vegas it's in the corner, why is that? :(

  • @SparkleIslandDubs Set your project properties in Sony Vegas Pro. That way the program knows what size the screen will be and where to position text.

  • @guerillabill Thank you :) I got it now! I have another thing too! How can I seperate a video's sound from the video. Because I want to delete the muisc track but not the video! How can I do that?

  • @SparkleIslandDubs See my YouTube video, 'Remove audio track, record voice over, unlock audio tracks in Sony Vegas Movie Studio'

  • thanks as always;great

  • Thank you, this helped :) Not sure tho why the timeline has to be above :s

  • @GamerzTrap You can change the placement of the timeline and preview window using 'options', 'preferences', 'display'.

  • @guerillabill Yes, but the timeline for the text has to be above the video timeline, Ive tried to put itunder the sounds timeline but It wont appear. Does it have to be next to the videos timeline?

  • @GamerzTrap The timeline for text has to be above all other video timelines - because the text must lay on top of the video. Video is stacked by top to bottom of the timelines.

You can drag any video timeline to the top.

  • Thanks mate

  • when i insert text no text box comes up. :/ HELP!

  • @fluffywow It is likely the text box is docked behind one of your tabbed windows. Instead of popping up on the screen, it remains in its docked location. To resolve this see my youtube video 'finding lost windows in Sony Vegas'

  • what if i have black background on my text? how to get rid of that?

  • @NHlikesMinzy If you are using a black background, click the 'properties' tab in the Text Media window, and change the text color.

  • I don't have the transition window, can you help?

  • @robertdevald Press ALT 7 will bring back the transitions window.

  • @guerillabill Thanks, it worked! I am still a n00b at these things so excuse me for my dumbness.

  • thank you !!

  • And how to add a text thing above it lmao?

  • @JeetnDury Put your mouse on the left control area of the top video track, right click and choose 'add new video track'. This will add an empty video track above other video tracks. Use that one to add text.

  • @guerillabill Thank you :)

  • thaNks alot mAn foR ur adVice

  • why i cant find that option?

  • @faridjabba After you right click and choose 'text media', a window should open an allow you to add text. If the window doesn't appear, it's probably docked behind another window. To fix this, see my YouTube video, 'find lost windows in Sony Vegas'

  • thanks so much!!! :D

  • Thank you so much :)

  • what is the easiest way to upload a video from sony vegas to youtube? I switched the format to wmv, and it deleted my title from the beginning of the video, which ended up cutting out about 5 seconds of the video.

  • @WhiteXHysteria Use 'render as', choose the wmv filetype, and render to a new video file. Then go to YouTube and use the 'upload video' button at YouTube to upload the video.

  • thx Bill

  • @weymarie If you have placed the text media on the top track, the text will overlay video tracks below it. There will be no background color on the text media track, unless you set a background color in the text media options.

  • What if there is no "Insert Text Media"? :/

  • @AMVZFutureGohanZAMV Put your mouse pointer on a video track, right click, and you'll see 'insert text media'

  • This way you can add a caption,too. Thanks,man. :)

  • When i insert text it doesn't come up in a window . How can i fix that problem?

  • @VNdrummer If your text media box doesn't pop up, it means you have docked it behind another tabbed window.

To fix this, see my YouTube video, 'find lost windows in Sony Vegas'

  • @guerillabill Thanks man! I really appreciate it :)

  • THHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUU

  • ty!!!!

  • @Dannyboy0346 Add a caption the same way you add a title - exactly as shown above

  • @Dannyboy0346 See my Youtube video 'Zoom into a photo in Sony Vegas or Movie Studio'

  • @guerillabill Hey um when I insert the text, it has a black background that covers up my video. How do I make it not have a background and just have text?

  • @X8xScoutx8X The default setting for text media is to have a transparent background. In the text properties tab is where you set the background color and the transparency level. Move the transparency slider on the background color all the way to the bottom.

  • @guerillabill What Vegas are you using I have 10 and your advice didnt work what do i do?

  • @rem0rsele55 It works exactly the same way in all versions of Vegas. If the text doesn't appear, it usually means you didn't create a new video track and place it above all other video tracks, and add the text to that track, the very top one on the timeline.

  • @guerillabill Got it thanks!

  • Is it possible to add a shadow to the credit roll? If it is, how do you do it. Thanks.

  • So I've done really everything you say to do in the video, and it still doesn't show text on the video i'm working with. Any advice?

  • @TrainmanEvan You have to put the text on a video track above all other video tracks, else the text won't show.

Easiest way to do this is to add a new video track, and move it to the top above all other video tracks, and place just text on that top video track.

  • When I do this, my screen gets darkr and darkr :(

  • @HuNtZZGamestyle Adding text, as long as you don't specify a background color, should have no effect on your video brightness or contrast - unless there is a problem with the source video format or codec.

  • @guerillabill Thanks ;), but when I render the clip.. only the text shows up :S

  • @HuNtZZGamestyle When you render video and it goes black, it usually means the video is some form of mpg/mov and you don't have the correct video codec to render it.

  • @guerillabill Thanks a lot! :)

  • @guerillabill I think what he means is, he is pasting the text on top of the video.

You should create a new video track above the main video and paste the text media on that.

  • look, i can not put more than one text box. how can i put more than one?! :'C

  • @JoannaxPsycho You can add more video tracks and stack text boxes on top of each other.

  • @guerillabill No, I can't...

  • @JoannaxPsycho In every version of Vegas and Movie Studio you can stack text tracks on top of other video tracks with text in them.

  • thank u so much

  • Thank you!!

  • what happens if it adds on to the video track

  • @RoboticRedneckk For text to be visible, it needs to be added to a video track above all other video tracks.

If you add it to a track that already has video on it, the video on the track, won't be visible.

The track name doesn't have to be text - it can be any video track that is above all other tracks on the timeline.

  • @MrGameplayClips Get Movie Studio 10 Platinum, or at least 9 Platinum. Both handle HD and have the extra features you'll need.

  • THANKS SO MUCH!

  • Thank you bro

  • Thanks A LOT! :)

  • Does it have to be Platinum? I just have Sony vegas 7!

  • @GiZmo3331 Works with any version of Sony Vegas or Sony Movie Studio

  • @guerillabill Yay!! Thx! I got it. It's a whole different thing got it so good man! :)

  • Okay, but when i render/publish the video, it doesnt play the video, just nthe text overlay, please help :)

  • @DJTheSpeedfreak Put the text overlay on a video track above all other video tracks.

  • @guerillabill I did, 1st track text, second video, 3rd audio, but it still isnt working :(

  • @DJTheSpeedfreak Make sure the second video track is not muted. Also if your source video clip is mov/mp4 or divx/xvid, it may be too compressed to render into video

  • Hey. Is it possible to make a 3D text. :D

  • @keiffer80 Sony Vegas doesn't have 3D text option, but you can import 3D text created in other programs like Photoshop or Xara 3D.

  • Thanks! :D

  • @VanMedia To keep windows external after you drag them away from the Tabbed area, resize the windows so they are larger, position them where you want them to open next time, and close them with the x in the upper right corner of the window.

Do NOT drag them back to the tabbed area.

  • HHEELLPP every time i type my font in its behind the clip how do i bring it forwards bearing in mind im on movie studio 10

  • @unclejelytot4321 Put the video track that has text in it, on the very top of the timeline.

It MUST be above all other video tracks.

  • @guerillabill how do i add text or after the a clip but not on the clip itself? for example, you black screen intro that says "adding text titles.." how do i do something like that?

  • @VanMedia Use insert text media, and add the text on the top video track before the video begins.

If you have already created the video, turn on 'auto ripple', then add the text at the beginning of the video.

  • @guerillabill thanks alot , thanks exactly what i needed. i had a problem where i wanted to put the text in front of the video but then i have to move all clips. idk that there was a auto-ripple button, that's alot!

  • @guerillabill i have another question, how do i restore defaults value to something i changed. for example i changed the placement and orientation of a picture, but i do not remember the defaults, where's the button to restore defaults? also how do i make it so that the text media window remains as an external window ratherr than become apart of the workspace whenever i drag it to the top? is there a button to lock it so it does no integrate with the other windows if i drag it by accident?

  • @VanMedia If you use pan & crop to change the placement and orientation of an image, open pan & crop, right click and select 'restore'.

To keep all windows external after dragging them away from the tabbed area, use the x in the upper right corner to close the window. This will cause the window to open at the location on the screen where it was closed.

  • @guerillabill Cheers it helped a lot :D

  • is this trail one?

  • @JOSHBATTLE Always put the text media on a video track above all other video tracks.

  • @jonnaSKATE Solution - create multiple text media tracks.

  • my generator box wont pop p it just put a sample text and i dont kno how to change it! it juts pops up as a picture

  • @legacygirldandi If your text media box doesn't pop up, it means you have docked it behind another tabbed window.

To fix this, see my YouTube video, 'find lost windows in Sony Vegas'

  • thank you for making this movie :)

  • Hey, I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 10.0 and i seriously don't know how to add text to my pictures on it, I'm only 12 so help!

  • @purpleshake0698 The process is the same in all versions of Sony Vegas. Just be sure to put the text on a video track ABOVE all other video tracks.

  • In vegas 10 I have no text line?

  • @AlexKnightaz There isn't really such a thing as a text track. Just use the top video track to add text. If the top video track is already in use, right click and choose 'insert video track' to add another. And move that track to the top of the timeline.

  • Im using Vegas pro 10.0 and im pretty new on it... and this doesnt work for Sony vegas pro 10.0 could you tell me how to?

  • @rickesnicke This works exactly the same way in Vegas Pro 10. Just be sure to put the text on a video track ABOVE all other video tracks.

  • How do I change the Times New Roman or Ariel or Tahome. I am makeing it look like people are talking. I want the text to look dirrent for each person

  • @dracerick In the generated media text window, select the 'edit' tab, highlight the text, change the font face in the font selection drop down.

  • @guerillabill Thank you I see how now.

  • is there any way i can get text on top of my clip? Like i want to be able to put text on my clip whilst it is saying, how do i do that?

  • @EoDxFuSiOnZ to put text on top of your clip, insert a video track above all other video tracks, and add text to that track.

When you do, it will overlay on top of the clip.

  • I wanna make a trailer video (like for a movie) and I want a black screen with just text on it, kinda of like a title clip. How would I do that?

  • @vietsoldier01 Place text on top video track, and don't place anything in the video tracks below. This will create text on top of black.

Or if you want to control the background color, choose 'media generator' tab, choose 'solid color', and drag a solid color to the video track below the text track.

  • how do you get the text track :s ?

  • @WikiGame Right click in the top video track, and select 'insert video track'.

Use the top video track as the text track.

  • the video media generator doesnt come up if i drag text into the timeline or if i insert it the way u did it....... it worked once before but now its not giving me the option to edit the text.... if u can help inbox me please xx

  • @MrDFIRogue Sounds like you docked the text window, perhaps behind another tab.

To see how to recover it, view my youtube video 'Finding lost windows in Sony Vegas & Movie Studio '

  • thanks! but mine isnt the same version as urs.. its songy vgas 10.0 !! wat version is urs?

  • @supercool4422 I have Vegas Movie Studio 6,7,8,9 & 10, as well as Vegas Pro 6, 7, 8 & 9. They all work exactly as shown above. Your timeline might be below the preview window, but you can change that using preferences.

  • Thank you, I'm able to add text to my video now, I only have the trial version but you know at least I can tinker around with it, and it's nice having my username at the bottom right hand corner of my videos.

  • it worked for me

  • I tried inserting text, but i get the message: The COM objects failed to initialize? Any ideas what this could be?

  • @mar1us95 Sounds like you need to reinstall Vegas.

  • thx alot! i had movie studio and i had no idea on how to add text! this rlly helped! =)

  • nice!! thnx

question : when i insert the text the background of it is Black, how can i make it transparent to integrate it in the vid?

  • @Kommandant10 Put the text on a video track above all other video tracks.

  • @guerillabill it worked but the video becomes mixed with the black ground of the text...and becomes dark :-/

  • @Kommandant10 See my YouTube video 'Make Text & Titles really pop in Sony Vegas Movie Studio '

  • hi, when I insert my text it comes up with a black background and I want it transparent so you can still see what Ive filmed. How do I get rid of the black background?!

  • @drivertv666 Put the text on a video track ABOVE all other video tracks.

  • @guerillabill Thats great thank you!! I am just about to do it, however how do i get a track above my existing ones?!

  • @drivertv666 Right click on the top video track and choose 'insert video track' to create a new video track.

  • @drivertv666 Right click on the top video track and choose 'insert video track' to create a new video track. Or drag an unused video track above the top video track.

  • @drivertv666 ah! thanks!! that works great!! thanks so much for your help, keeping making great videos!!

  • @drivertv666 right click on the top video track, and choose 'insert video track'.

  • thank you ! i was able to find it :D

  • i have a problem i insert text media in sony vegas but the video event effects dont pop up neither does it pop up when i right click it and click on the option to edit the words.. could you please tell me how to solve this?

  • @ILikeWeatherGuy You may have docked the Video Event FX window behind another window in tabbed area. In that case, the window may be opening, but you may not be able to see it.

See my YouTube video 'finding lost windows in Movie Studio' to see the solution

  • THANK YOU !!

  • problem: when i click insert text media i get it on four tracks!! how to get it on one track?

  • @multivideonoob Close the program, reboot your computer. Try again.

  • Excellent! Thanks Bill.

  • @Aturoq The above works in Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6,7,8,9 & 10, and Vegas Pro 5,6,7,8 & 9

  • THANK U SOOOOO MUCH!!!! U Rockk!!!

  • hey i right click at the begging it dosnt come insert text media

so i went insert above and clicked insert text media but the text gets seperated to the video or picture

  • @MrMrbeanscar You need to have your mouse pointer on a video track when you right click, to see the 'insert text media' option.

Make sure you place the text on a video track above all other video tracks.

  • hmm my sony vegas dosnt seem to want to open the video event fx help?

  • @KawaiiTessa You may have docked the Video Event FX window behind another window in tabbed area. In that case, the window may be opening, but you may not be able to see it.

See my YouTube video 'finding lost windows in Movie Studio' to see the solution

  • @guerillabill thank you very much I'll check tat out casue I needed to cnage the colour contrast too of a clip and I may have docked that too

  • I LOVE SONY VEGAS

  • Oooh good stuff. Thank you very much. Stupid help thingy talks about stuff that is seemingly not in apparent sight. This helps a lot though!

  • thanks bill myers.lol, easier than i thought

  • Thanks Billy Mays! I mean..Bill Myers. =)

  • Thanks man! u rocks! ;)

  • @whitebub You can create animated lower thirds using the media generator in Sony Vegas, transitions and pan & crop.

Or just search google for 'lower thirds'. I also have an article on my web site about how to create lower third backgrounds

  • @whitebub You can use chromakey to place a background behind you. To see how to do it, view my YouTube video 'Chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD '

For moving backgrounds, search google for 'chromakey backgrounds' or 'virtual sets'

  • I cant do this theres no room above my clip!

  • @kingbooforums Right click on your clip and choose 'insert video track'. Then move the new video track above your existing video track. Then insert text in that track.

  • how do you insert a text track? (got SV9 for project, so I have no clue)

  • @THISNAMEOWNS A text track is the same as a video track. No difference.

To insert a video track, put your mouse on an existing video track, right click and select 'insert video track'

  • do you know how to get rid of texts on the video?

  • @vizard9800 If the text is on prerecorded video, you can't get rid of it. But you can use pan and zoom to move it out of the image, or you can overlay your own text on top of the existing text.

  • How do i have text in my video?

  • @jorddo32 Do exactly as shown in the above video. Make sure you add the text to a video track above all other video tracks

  • @guerillabill Never mind because i got vegas pro 9

  • @jorddo32 Adding text to Vegas Pro 9 is exactly as shown in the video above.

  • when i try using the script font, it just appears as ariel on the video! how can i make it go to script?
