  • Don't mean to sound like some know-it-all wanker, just offering my opinion. I'm actually a PICP level 3 coach and have interned under charles personally on a number of occasions so I do have some background in his methodology.

  • I never said low bar position wasn't safe... But it bothers me when people that have absolutely no understanding of muscular biomechanics start critiquing the exercise form of professional weightlifters. As far as the slow eccentric goes I'd say its likely that this is an accumulation phase, so he's increasing her time under tension and backing off the intensity to prevent neural fatigue/overtraining etc he's also increasing her power by using the full-speed device so the slow eccentric further

  • cool let me know how rehab goes

  • The answer to everyones comments about the bar is a simple one.

The bar placement isnt wrong, the bar is on her upper traps. Its just because her hair is in the way and her baggy tshirt is making it look a bit wrong.

Also, bar positioning doesnt make you lean forward its musclular imbalances at the hip.

  • isnt this an oly high bar squat and people are thinking its a powrlifting squat. If it was a low bar power squat shed have to lean forward more to stop herself falling back.

  • It raises the COG up higher, that is all.

She looked like she solved for COG just fine.

  • I think you should just trust that the trainers working under the best s&c coach in the world would not have their athletes performing their exercises with poor form, and that there's a reason for the bar being placed there

  • Or it could just be that "nobodies perfect," even Charles Poliquin. I'm a CHEK trainer and I'm surprised at the placement of the bar so high on her cervical vertebrae. Longevity is just as important as winning a medal.

  • @yunta51 HAHA you're a CHEK trainer?.. now I understand. I gues you'd most likely have her on a swiss ball, doing a one legged squat whilst pressing a club bell and singing the macarena.

Perhaps the reason she's able to sit the bar there comfortably is because she has traps bigger than rick moranis (who's probably a CHEK devotee).

Fact is, high bar placement allows you to keep your elbows under your hands and maintain good cervical posture in the bottom position..

  • @hendrixian1 Then I guess for you Poliquin can do no wrong. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that over 100lbs or iron banging on cervical vertebra over and over, the iron bar will win.

  • @yunta51 Mate.. as I said, if you have any sort of trap development the bar will not make contact with your cervical vertebrae.. you seem to be forgetting the fact that there are 7 of them also, so lowering the bar will do nothing to prevent cervical pressure and will actually cause a cervical curvature during the lift.

I never said Poliquin can do no wrong. but there is no wrong in this video.

There's also no "banging" of the bar during squats. your trying to point out non-existant problems

  • @yunta51 and the banging occurred where? And maybe get bigger traps

  • @hendrixian1 Low bar, high bar, who cares. People have their preferences. I hate how all of you act like there is only one safe and effective way to do things. Poliquin himself would be shaking his head.

Anyways, I wish there was an explanation in this vid as to why this is performed the way it is. Why such a slow negative?

  • dont totally agree with the form.....the bar is too high on her shoulders, its almost on the neck, hence she collapses forward each time coming up, have it lower, and her chest will come up, and it will be perfect. And if there is another reason, please explain, I will be humbled.

  • I think its too high on her shoulders because of the additional load...if she placed the bar lower that thing would just roll off her back.

  • I am sorry to disagree, but that definitely is not the reason, cos when you lower the bar onto your mid traps, you also lean forward at the very top of the squat movement, and u also push the bar into your traps with your hands, and the bar does not roll down, the reason why i say this with so much authority is, cos i am powerlifter of 20 yrs, and if u see any powerlifting squats, u will know what i mean. cheers

  • probably cause this isn't a powerlifting squat (low-bar placement with wide feet placing)done for the purpose of increasing numbers but a olympic or "high-bar squat" which refers to the bar placement

  • @harrysandhu78 If you actually are from a powerlifting background and not some 15 year old kid, you'd know that it's quite obvious this is an olympic squat and not a powerlifting one... You'd also know that powerlifters are injured 95% of the time due to the fact that they routinely sacrifice form and ROM for bigger totals... Not that this isn't commendable, but powerlifting techniques should remain within powerlifting circles

  • The bar is set high for olympic lifters to get as much frontal loading as possible for the clean recovery. That's why it's there...to aid in the clean recovery. But you are right in that the goal for an olympic lifter is to maintain the upright position as possible.

  • plenty of weightlifters with the high bar position squatting 300 kg's or more. I don't see the forward collapsing...

  • Can u talk me through this!
