no one enjoys being cheated on, or living with that perspective if even for a time while the facts come out, in any case it's hard and even those you can offer the best advice can easily find themselves adrift from knowing how to handle things...Fear, regret and shame can drive people to different lengths, but I feel if you let those things dictate your actions you can get things wrong. when the dust settles just be humble that you made it through and hopefully took it like a man...
Look at Coughlan and his fans, was anybody surprised? I saw this coming months ago and when I tried to warn his viewers he blocked me. He had hundreds of people blocked and it's all to do with maintaining his power and his influence. His attitude is toxic. The best thing to happen to the Atheist community this year will be Coughlans leaving.
Coughlan has made a name for himself by creating drama and hatred in his pwnage (olympics) and similar shit.
All the things he does are highly irrational drama shit. And now he gets hit by his own drama.
I don't sympathize with coughlan and will never do.
When coughlan returns i hope he only will make funny videoes (like nazies without applitude) and no more shit like pwnage olymics or videoes full of petty name calling and insults.
You are a moron. Heresy is punishment for breaking religious edicts or tribal law. Those two where not 'exiled' for heresy. People displayed hate towards them based on how they judged them to be. If you come down from your ivory tower maybe you can recognize that. Moron.
@ymnanm27 Yes, they betrayed the sacred leader, and thus deserved utter destruction. All around it was very cult-like behavior. The scientologists would be proud. Again though, the exact scenarios in this video are not meant as a 1 to 1 comparison to the situation, only examples of what our monkeys can do once we let them off the leash. I never said I am not guilty of such behavior myself. Not to the extent of this particular instance, but the behavior is still animalistic at any rate.
@pfarabee Are you telling me that you do not have sufficient intelligence to distinguish between people coming to the aid of their sacred leader and people coming to the aid of a friend who was wronged? Superficially it looks alike, in order to note the difference you need to look beyond what is seen. You need to reflect. Instead you just categorize events based on superficial similarities. You are clueless.
@ymnanm27 the behavior is very similar because it works on many of the same mechanisms. The response is visceral and violent. Are you telling me that comments along the lines of what was spewwed at peach is just someone coming to the aid of a friend? You don't call someone a half-breed whore that should kill themselves just because your friend has their feelings hurt. Hostility is expected in such situations. The levels displayed, however, indicate fanaticism, not friendship.
@pfarabee Yes. Not all friendships are alike. I know friends that will break the bones of people who hurt their friends. Asking those that hurt you to kill themselves is a common form of expressing resentment in civilized nations where death threats are illegal. And the aspect of being a half-breed whore, well it is technically correct. I wouldn't use such harsh words but they are true. The problem is people acting with total disregard for the feelings of others and expecting no consequence.
@ymnanm27 your own statement is, de facto, the exact slur against her mentioned. You have said it is "technically correct". I don't know the validity of either of term used, as I don't know her birth history or the details of her sexual habits. You, however, have called her such, by saying they are harsh but true. If I were to venture a guess, I would say that they are harsh and UNTRUE. The truth of the words doesn't speak to the inappropriate nature of them, at any rate.
@pfarabee It is surprising how little you know about her given that she has a blog and basically pastes her entire personal life on the internet. Are you closing your eyes and pretending it is dark? She cheated on the man she wanted to marry that makes her a whore. Both her parents belong to different races so she is a half breed. Offensive as those terms are technically they are correct. And you are telling me that truth is inappropriate if people are offended by it? Shame on you.
@ymnanm27 cheating on a man she wanted to marry makes her.. human. Not a whore. She'd be a whore(in the manner you use the word) if she was having sex with numerous men, often. One other guy doesn't make a girl a whore. I find it difficult to believe that you'd think of coughlan as a whore if he cheated on peach. That's our inherent & culturally driven sexism though I suppose.
@crazycrazycaleb "cheating on a man she wanted to marry makes her.. human" You do have a low standard when it comes to being human does it not? Why stop there? 'having sex with numerous men, often makes one..human'. I could take it even further if I wanted to. If coughlan cheated on peach I would call him a womanizer. Men are not called whores. Because men and women are different. Treating people of different genders equally is not fairness. There are natural differences which must be respected.
@pfarabee As for mechanisms, the mechanism of the gun is the same whether it is used for self-defense or for murder. Obviously there is more to it than what is seen.
@pfarabee If you think about it calling Peach a half breed whore is a lot like calling Jesus a cosmic Jewish Zombie is it not? Name calling is nothing new among atheists and not exclusive to any particular group? It is a universal trait.
@ymnanm27 no, it isn't. Jesus is not a living, breathing human being, and likely never was. Pointing out the absurd nature of devoting life to a cosmic zombie is not the same as degrading, humiliating, and attacking someone for their race or sexuality. As in my "It's Not Their Choice" vid, I stand by the notion that even if she were both of those terms, neither of them are judgement criteria at all. The intent to use such traits, whether or not true, to debase someone, is disgusting. Period.
@MisterEvil1 thank you. Undoubtedly it's because of the quality of the clips I swiped, particularly the last source, "The Indelible Stamp of Our Lowly Origin," which is an extremely powerful video that I highly recommend to anyone and everyone. All I can take credit for after the clips start is which clips I cut in where and one cross-edit where I overlayed Dawkins asking about apostacy over the top of the first half of the honor killing clip... oh, and those last 4 words, of course :)
Solitary people at home in front of their computer screens != (does not equal) a mob. Sorry, I just don't buy it. This was a simple case of fanboydom. Coughlan should have thought long and hard before disclosing his relationship status online. Especially if that meant making another party or parties look bad. But whatever, these people live off drama and they can't stay away. Guarantee they'll be back, hopefully I'll remember this BS when they return so I can ignore them.
@southmcl how do you think a mob forms exactly? Watch pirhanas eat sometime. one takes a nibble, then another, and another, and very quickly, you have a feeding frenzy. The addition of the net compounds the problem, it doesn't alleviate it. People on opposite sides of the world can instantly combine to form part of the same mob mentality because of the net. What happened on peach and dev's channels was just that.. a mob of attackers, all feeding on each other's hate to gain momentum.
@pfarabee Ok, just one of the differences between your pirhana example and what happened here. Pirhana have all sorts of cues that tell each other to attack. From body language to blood in the water, there are a number of different factors. I doubt any of the troll attackers were in communication with each other. Also, if you're suggesting that people went to peaches channel with no intention of attacking her, saw others were attacking and decided to attack, then I call bullshit. (CONT)
@pfarabee (CONT) Anyone who visited their pages had intentions of leaving negative comments long before they realized other people had done it. There are a number of factors that feed into a true "lynch mob" mentality, most of which are absent or impossible in this situation. Would you assert that all the attacks were perpetrated by males? Again, I reject your hypothesis. This is nothing more than a bunch of fanboys attacking what they perceived as a threat.
@pfarabee One more point. You said: "People on opposite sides of the world can instantly combine to form part of the same mob mentality because of the net."
The only combination that has happened here was manufactured in your mind. These people didn't flock together to attack, nor were they spurred on by watching others attack. Each individual made their own decision to attack irrespective of others actions. I guess we simply don't agree. Good video though.
@southmcl the comments on their channels were not the only relevent ones, but also those on the Coughlan video itself. I went to both Peach's and Dev's channel to see if they had posted any response videos (after reading comments on the vid calling Peach a whore, etc). I must admit I had negative thoughts about them briefly until I gathered my thoughts. It's intoxicating to see such a thing happening. Still, the "apostacy" example is more relevent, as they dared sully the name of the prophet.
@southmcl (cont) of course, again, these were not meant as direct comparisons of what is depicted in the videos and what happened in this instance, just examples of what can happen when we don't control our monkeys.
@pfarabee Agreed. Sorry, I misunderstood and thats due completely to my own ignorance. I didn't realize the comments were mostly on Couglan's video, I thought we were mostly talking about Peach and Dev's channel. I'm still not sure this fits under mob mentality though. When my best friend came to me extremely upset some months ago and told me his girlfriend had cheated on him, my first reaction was to call her a slut. It was a gut reaction and probably wasn't helpful. However, (CONTINUED)
@pfarabee (CONTINUED) However, I think its a common behavior for males and females to do that. That behavior does a number of things. First it establishes loyalty. Secondly, it was a way for me to validate my friends feelings of betrayal and express my own disgust. Third, it devalues the person that harmed him thus hopefully reducing pain or embarrassment inflicted. There are a great many factors that we aren't accounting for here but I think gut reactions do not equal mob mentality.
@southmcl I would agree with you that gut reactions don't equal mob mentality, but I think they can potentially become so, when enough people join to make the flame self-fanning. There were people camping out in her comments section, for example, spewing repeated insults, talking to each other at the same time. When the person you are "protecting" is begging you to stop, but you see the "enemy" lying bloody on the ground and you just can't help but KICK them yourself... (cont)
I understand why people want to call it lynch mob, its very overwhelming but imagine if I had been cloned 10,000 times and we were all standing around my best friend when he said it. It wouldn't have anything to do with the mob, even though it would appear that way. Regardless, I seriously doubt that calling peach a slut had anything to do with her absence from youtube. I think its more centered around her own embarrassment. They'll be back.
@southmcl (cont from above) You could very well be right about the embarrassment aspect. That is, they could have left not because of offense at what was said but the burden of the ridicule itself. At any rate, this video is really more a statement about what we are capable of when we chimp out, which I saw a LOT of people doing, for whatever reason. Glad you liked the vid at any rate, even if you don't agree with me on the exact nature of the monkeyness.
One problem w/ those who care about this affair is with the lack of any relationship of note being shown on YT in order to develop a good sense of the connections and lack thereof. A personal relationship is selfish by nature, it embraces the critter side of human life, so the idea that each should serve an idealistic & romantic union is wrong-headed. Had these two done serious videos together and swapping comments around more, I suspect many would have figured this would never work out well.
I don't know much about this situation, but I've always hated the peach and devchelle, so fuck em. Coughlan is way overrated, and I'm indifferent about his absence. They'll all be back, guaranteed.
@SwagChef whether or not they will be back is not overly relevent nor is the message or likability of any of the three. The flashlight should be shined on the actions of the pack in its viscerally relentless destruction of the blasphemers. Even when the leader of the pack begged them to sheath their fangs, the feast continued. Cognitive creatures reduced to animalistic autopilot, the mindless mob thirsting for the blood of the offenders.. it should be resisted, no matter where it occurs.
@pfarabee I understand now. I didn't get a chance to see what people did to them before they closed their accts so I was speaking out of ignorance. Great vid btw.
@SwagChef I've enjoyed some of Peach's videos but not enough to sub her. No idea who Devchelle is and Cough really comes over a the worst kind of bully. All agressive and obnoxious when on a roll, all whiney and pathetic when called on it. I have no idea what all the drama is about and agree with you: They will all be back and expect a heroes welcome upon return.
