Actually, unions are more socialist in nature and make us more like Russia. You know why jobs go overseas? Not corporate America. It is because unions price themselves so high and have so many ridiculous rules and regulations, that bosses get tired of dealing with unions so they move their jobs where people will be more appreciative. Even now, businesses want to move down South to right to work states...that is why Illinois and New York, forced union states, are losing the most people.
Union made goods would only cost slightly more. The corporations want MORE profit, so companies like Nike has little Asian kids sewing sneakers all day and night for basically a loaf of bread!
Wake up. Moving overseas is all about corporate greed, and not having to pay benefits. Unions keep us safe. I am a firefighter. Without my union I would be going into fires with an old rubber coat and no breathing apparatus and a hose with holes. Read about The Triangle shirtwaist fire in 1911in NYC.
@BillyBanana75 Little Asian kids have better work ethic than Americans, for the most part. Americans expect way too much from their employer and view them as the enemy, because they are trained that way by union people....Unions do not keep us safe anymore. We have federal laws on the books to protect workers - unions are nearly irrelevant. What's being debated is not unions right to safety materials, it is the unions right to pension and benefits, which is the real corruption.
@ace8842 what??? you are either one of the top 2% conservative millionaires or a walmart worker with no chance of unionizing. better work ethic? its slavery you idiot! we have the federal laws because the unions got them in place. and its corrupt to collectively bargain??? workers should have rights, otherwise they are slaves. go back to your mansion and shut up already!
@BillyBanana75 Slavery, wow....Yes, unions got federal laws in place. But the fact is they are there. I am appreciative to them for doing so, but the fact is, they have way overplayed their hand, and the taxpayers are revolting. You can only go to the well so many times. You can't keep raising taxes over and over on taxpayers to pay for education and bloated pensions, insurance, and salaries. Unions resist any and all change/reform which keeps the US falling in education rankings..
@ace8842 The reason tax payers are “revolting” is because governors like mine in NJ paint the public workers as villains for negotiating fair contracts, agreed to by both sides. Public worker pay also does not outweigh private sector job like so many politicians would like you to believe. And pensions are good for the workers AND the tax payers! When invested properly, pension funds make a nice return on investment. Hell, they stole $3 billion from it here in NJ to balance the budget!
If the only people paying into the pension system in the employees and the state can use that money for investing and to steal from, that is not a burden to the tax payer.
Unions fight for unfair reform but we do not resist all change. We have offered many ways that money can be saved, but the politicians look better by calling us greedy and slashing our benefits.
Again, no mention of reigning in heath care COSTS! because they are in bed with them!
The fat cats want to privatize everything (like schools) so they can make money on it for themselves. Just an FYI, in NJ I pay 8.5% of my salary into my pension as a firefighter. I am not given an option of how much I pay, how often, or where it goes. The state takes that money and I must accept that. Police and Fire are also separate from other public worker pensions.
We have our own separate pension system and we pay the most out of all public employees in NJ and that is another reason our system is rebounding on its own without being funded by the local municipalities. I also need my “bloated” insurance as I get sick and hurt at my job, and sometimes some of us even die! Also, cops and firemen ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SOCIAL SECURITY!
