ok electric cars seem to be the wave of the future!! Now hook a heavy ass Fisher plow to one and clear the streets for like I don't now um 8 hours or so not to mention its heavy wet snow!!
@123gwf Yes. Even if charged from coal fired power, the pollution is a tiny fraction of petrol. It actually takes more electricity to run a petrol car than an electric car, just from the electricity used to pump the oil and refine it into petrol.
The whole infrastructure is based on dominance of gasoline power - that won't change in the foreseeable future; the broken back of the economy will see to that. A broken economy will not pave the way for refining the technology to the point where both industry and society-at-large will believe in its range and reliability; and it's this wholesale belief and confidence which ultimately enables or dooms the electric car. Problems with current models like the Volt do nothing to inspire confidence.
"In announcing billions in subsidies, President Obama hoped the US would be the first nation to drive a million electric cars by 2015. That figure appears detached from reality. JD Power and Associates estimates just 100,000 electric cars on the road by 2020. That is less than .01 of the 300 million cars registered in the U.S., and a drop in the ocean of oil consumed here annually."
I think electric cars are the future, its a really good idea. But we need to come up with a charging system or come up with a "battery swapping" system. Go to a "fuel station" and swap your dead or dying batterys with fresh ones is a very good idea in my opinion with the addition of charging the batterys you have. But then cars will need to be build with exchange systems which is costly.. Or as a second approach, if your on the highway, have electrifyed rails under the lanes or whatnot to charge
better now sell market. i not going pay for gas oil. save money better solar with car save money. more than eletric plug and gas. i like solar car or swv.
@motionapplied Well hopefully ppl wisen up to dependency on huge rich external companies whom manipulate the systems making slaves out of the laborers - by not allowing imposition of legislation which makes it impossible for ppl to create their own energy (or water, food, etc) independently -- thus retaining our ability to install modern solar collectors, (water collectors, atriums, etc) and live independently allowing us to retain spending money and revive the economy...
@SuperiorMind total independence will not work. total dependence is also wrong. therefore we must seek for a solution that lies in the middle. remember: the industrials and the people of the governments are more dependent of the workers than the other way around - especially when one worker doesn't mistrust the other one nor do they let themselves intrigue against each other in front of those governmentals and industrialiens.
@motionapplied Good points -- I'm thinking proper regulations to make the game fair - as well as the freedom to chose non-dependent solutions should reduce exploitation and allow workers to start spending money on more than just shelter, energy and what little food they can still afford. Like your point tho - we need balance so the infrastructure doesn't fall apart -- so I'm thinking any alterations must be gradual.
But, even if´the cost for energy (as stated in this clip) "costs you virtually nothing" is true I think that car manufacturers would not just sit there and hands down say "well, that was that!" and accept that their huge aftermarket income just disappeared. I am convinced that the costs for the consumer will be at least equaled, if not more, than today's ICE vehicles per mile in the long end for using this technology.
Trouble is, people want to save money before they save the planet. So this tech needs to become commonplace and cheap before it reaches the majority of motorists.
@sideslide23 Actually smart ass In a Model S.. You could almost make that, and if you drive smart you COULD make that. SO your whole sarcastic fucking ignorant comment just got blown away
Continued the most inefficient thing a car driver can do is ride a heavy mass car with just a single occupant and also without a valid reason to accomplish something worthwhile (getting to work far away, carrying a family, moving cargo, lots of groceries). If you need to go to a store 1 mile away for a gallon of milk ride a bike or walk instead. If your commute to work is just 5 miles away get an e bike.Be efficient.
Only problem with electric cars is the heavy vehicle mass (which is wasteful) as compared to the driver, passenger, cargo they carry. The less the mass of the vehicle the more energy efficient it becomes.Hence an electric bike is highly energy efficient because of its very light weight.Vehicles under 400 pounds are efficient for conversion.I've seen a electratrike ultralight aircraft.Electric scooters are efficient too.Not so with cars unless it's weight is reduced to the 100's of pounds.
@montey1017 That's pretty good but it doesn't beat a 959 lb/ft EV. I think the most torque I've seen overall in non-custom electric car is the Ultimate Aero EV which is 800 lb-ft - 0-100mph in 2.5 sec. The potential to make a very powerful custom electric car is excellent.
@montey1017 I like v8 my self , had 2 in the past (Jeeps), but with gas prices going up in 10 years no one will be able to afford one. USA is one of few places left with cheap gas. Europe pays about 8 $ per galon
@montey1017 Lol First off you need to learn what a Carburetor is, Then you need to Learn what a Big block is and what Defines a Engine as "V8". Because just from this comment I can tell you don't know any of that. and 575 ft lbs of Torque? LOL pathetic if you want Torque try 3000 ft lbs @ 0 - 250 RPM.. and thats 300 year old tech. fit into something little bigger then a John deere tractor. If you want torque so bad thats where its at. Not in American V8's.
@toyota339 Well - thing is - I'm thinking we need to focus on encouraging and creating more sustainable infrastructures as demand for non-renewables increase and ability to provide quickly enuf decreases -- cuz we will face economic collapse otherwise.
@SuperiorMind We face economic collapse anyway..... via unsustainable/insurmountable debt - this will happen way before it becomes necessary to worry about the infrastructure. In broken times, people have less 'belief' and vision - they hold on to what they know with both hands because anything else represents unnecessary risk. The broken economy is the greatest threat to the 'leap of faith' necessary for the electric car to be successful. Mad Max is a more likely vision of the future than Tron.
@esposo08 Real engine? More difficult and expensive to fix, less torque, abnoxiously loud(bad according to most ppl I know), more polution, more expensive to fuel(don't forget oil won't last forever), shorter life expectancy, heat is issue, can't plug in to recharge, etc.. Cue music to muffle screams as gerbils eat what's left of brain.
@SuperiorMind The electric car lobby often neglects the needs remote communities and their city centric ideology doesn't translate well into the real world for a lot of people, at least not for the moment. I can see real applications for electric vehicles today whilst at the same time conventional fuels and engines will continue to dominate because they are more user friendly. BTW, I personally prefer to ride a bike or walk for short trips. Oh and thanks for your kind comment at the end.
@esposo08 This was true and changing - like Chevy Volt and some ones I've shown here have 250 mile range with old battery pax - 500 with 2 and hopefully nanotube batteries out soon - 10 times the distance -- so 2500 miles on one charge -- also with 10 minute quick-charge available, swap stations, and other possibilities on rise(ie: liquid exchng). No probs - I also love the sound of screaming gerbils. ;p
@Belgdor I honestly don't understand what you mean, They don't look any worse then the fucking ignorant looking cars roaring up and down the highway and sitting in your Drive way. If you want a car that looks good you should stick with cars from the 60's and 70's. Until then don't be fucking complaining, Because you don't drive those old cars like I do
@Itsmeeman1 can also store energy in batteries for those that have issue with access to water. Direct power from the sun can produce energy without steam. Picture a large solar grid in the desert producing solar energy for use. Infinite energy that future innovation can make more and more efficient.
@spiderfabia2 Gulf countries can produce solar energy in their deserts. Trade electricity and oil. Oil will be gone one day having alternative choices will address poverty issues.
@SuperiorMind This is one of those topics where we are going to have to agree to disagree, I think. For me, the only good source of nuclear energy is from the Sun and that still kills people every year. As for power stations, they are nothing more than glorified steam turbines. So, in fact, they are Steam powered electricity stations. I may be mistaken but steam power does not in itself pollute or contaminate whatever living thing it comes in contact with.
@mrdojob Sorry but I am neither green nor a hippy. You remarked about things being more 'expensive'. If nuclear and fossil fuels are going to cost us the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink then wouldn't that be regarded as being far too expensive a price for and entire world of living things to pay for human arrogance and self-obsessed ignorance?
Perhaps you should re-evaluate your ideas about what is and what is not expensive?
@Itsmeeman1 Sorry but I must interject on one thing here -- nuclear energy will reduce/illiminate a great deal of human impact on the environment (new nuclear tech - not the same - no waste, no possibility of meltdown) -- anyway continue... ;p
Bisogna assolutamente tirarle fuori queste auto !!!! alla faccia delle compagnie petrolifere che ci tengono per le palle!! A me iniziano a far veramente male le palle.....!
@mrdojob Well hopefully soon enuf we can move away from Li to something else like the carbon-nanotubz - also heard about work on some kinda liquid swap system - totally different kinda battery -- haven't checked it out yet tho.
@SuperiorMind I heard they are making good developments in nuclear batteries to but once again cost will make me weep. Intersting thing about getting paper to store power also but I dunno where that will end up (prob not far).
One thing is for sure and thats that current batteries have reached their limits and I don't think they'll improve much anymore and as a result all electric cars will be useless no matter what body and blue lights they put on and in it untill they invent new batteries.
just would like to ask something that when he recharges he uses electric that is coming from a powerplant that is 99% gonna burn fossil fuel or coal so either way he is still burning fuel just indirectly so is what im saying correct? if its wrong pls reply
You're absolutely correct, an EV recharge from a power plant using fossil fuels would be producing emissions. However, far less emissions are produced to create the power for the EV than would be produced by an internal combustion engined car. Ultimately there is only one direction for our grid to move in; renewable energy. The more that happens, the more emissions free your EV becomes.
Electric cars are good for the drag racing ......think about it.....they only have to go a quarter mile....more volts =more power...and only a motor with one moving part...and you dont have to rebuild it after every run.
@mphello Thanx for that! lol Had no idea what comment you were talking about so had to look for it. Yeah... I was a little passionate about other people's comments! haha Glad you liked them. Sorry to anyone that takes offence, but hey, why mince words when time is of the essence! Live life NOW, but not at the expense of the next generation. Go humans! haha
@654321yhtaeD - The Lightning GT - very fast very nice car. 0-60 4 seconds, 10 minute or less recharge, 4 120kw brushless motors -- unfortunately a tad expensive for this one - targeting ppl with big money looking for very fast cars - a lot of ppl can't afford - but there are cars like Zap Alias(new version is pretty cool) for 29,000$ 0-60 5.7s, 250km/h (330hp)
@mphello ok ok. Yeah, stuff like that has always kind of bothered me. Do you know of anything that's considered "green" that actually costs more to produce? I know ethanol and bio diesel costs more fossil fuel to produce than refining oil into gasoline. Also, I've heard that recycling paper and plastic costs more in terms of resources than it does to produce them from scratch....
@wufabufa "than it does to produce them from scratch" Obviously, that wouldn't be, otherwise, paper recycling wouldn't be done. Economies of scale. Yeah, sure: driving trucks around to haul one tree's worth equivalent of paper to a recycle center must cost more than growing one entire tree. But at some quantity of paper and tree-equivalent, it has to cost less to recycle paper than to grow an entire forest.
Costs more due to massive subsidies to oil companies. External costs not accounted.
Something neglected by most people against EVs is the fact that it takes 7.5 kilowatt hours of electricity to refine one gallon of gasoline. That's enough power to make an electric car go 40 to 60 miles. The only car I know of that gets 60 MPG is a nicely tuned and driven Geo Metro... Thus there is a net decrease in power used (Or should be at least).
If worldwide corporate socialist capitalist system still rules the worlduntill, say 2020, this fancy pants electric car, like an old model T, may be bought by Jay Leno, or his estate, for a million bucks, along with a painting by Andy Warhole, both lauded by Standard and Poorly, as a tripple AAA+ buy. it performs at 110 percent, don't you know.
the inheritors of vast stolen fortunes don't need no high IQs, or book learnin'.
Some of them are ugly as fuck, some are eh-okay, some are amazing (design-wise). I understand the environmental need for electric cars. I also understand the advantages of electric cars, performance-wise, savings-wise, etc. I know theres a long way to go for electric cars to get accepted, and two major concerns are reliability (see Top Gear's episode with tesla) and range per charge. How well we integrate with the environment shows our civilization's advancement. BTW whats the song u've used ?
Fiirst they make ugly E cars, then they make very expensive E cars, none of them, meet the market.. How about on a Toyota Camry old desighn simple E cars??? i would drive it.. would cost cheap to make and cheap to charge!! and best thing is OIL would be used only to lubricate PARTS>! ECO Friendly and savings in your pockets.. but no we all Slaves... they will always find ways to ripp us OFF so we work free all of our lifes
Great cars are out there all ready, but Goverments who make money on fuel controll(it also even includes Electric COs) are against it, so that is why there is a delay in E Cars since or even before 1950s !!!
Wow! Does anyone remember the Saturn/GM EV1 out in Cali? Why did they crush all of those? I guess after they(Big Petro) figured out how to profit from batteries, they are allowing elect. cars to happen at their control. Can anyone see what it is that they are trying to push to us now? Same old tech, just different decade. They will never allow the EV to reach its full potential. As Itsmeeman1 said, we are only creating our own problems to solve but its only due to MONEY!
The companies making these don't give a fuck about the environment, they're purely for wealthy people to make themselves feel "good" for playing their part in the carbon clean up. These cars could be everywhere! BUT NO! They're raising the cost by making it look like a super-car. All these un-necessary modifications and accessories that just raise the price AND use more of the battery !?!?!
why make a engine that goes 240m/ph?! yyou can only go 100 at max usually. make cars that meet the RULES.
@vEkliipze Some mischaracterization. Wide variety of models of various prices/target-markets are being designed. Most ppl look for reasonably priced but awesome looking. All are extremely cheap to drive - can't complain there - beats the hell out of gas(and cheaper and less frequent maintenance).
@vEkliipze Agreed. The technology has been here for a long time. Electric cars made easy 101. Make a universal battery pack that is removed & replaced using robotics at a service station which also recharges batteries. This would be the best way. people act like this is so difficult. this idea Is not new.
@vEkliipze I originally thought that aswell... but thats not the case, a speed limiter would be what we're after... but we can't make a car that can only go 100 max because if we had a full load, towing something travelling at 100 would overload the motor pretty quick... the Power needs to be able to do 240 so at 100 you can have a full load, while towing, and not stress the car out. We need the power, but we need a speed limiter.
Curiously, those who complain about pollution from electric cars & hybrids don't actually give a shit about carbon output or climate change - they just think they have a valid argument against these vehicles. They don't however, as even a simple Google search will show.
If I could buy an electric car(I mean a total electric car,not some hybrid crap) for about the same price as a smaller car then I would. The only thing I would want is to be able to plug it into what amounts to nothing more than an extension cord for charging over night. The battery technology is here and now and the sources of providing electricity are here too, whether it be solar or wind.Unfortunately,I've watched the movie about who killed the electric car so I don't think it will happen.
I think its better to burn fossil energy into localized places like powerplants instead of burning fuel in each car, 'cause in powerplant the emissions could be catch and recycled. What do think?
@Zoza15 if an EMP dropped you wouldn't be using your gas car either genius. That's a great idea...let's not make any electric cars because of the 1 in 10 million percent chance that there's an EMP.
@Zoza15, Just for the record Brainiac!, EMP won't discharge a battery! it electromagneticly induces a high current in conductors, damaging circuits, devices can be hardened to this. A battery is an electrochemical device, the charge is stored chemicly, EMP has no effect. Communication systems, Tranmission lines and Radar systems are at greatest risk. I could explain why in detail to you, but, yeah I'm pretty stupid remember?
@1BustedMyth I have no Knowledge for EMP in its fullest, I only understand the basic principle of what a EMP does, not how further it technically operates in electric devices.
Be right man for that ;)
And for the record, I called you stupid, because you didnt get the joke, and since you taking it serious? its only hillarious..
@Zoza15, "EMP drop, Boom! no more fuel!" see i must be dumb because I read that and immediatly thought your an idiot who doesn't like electric cars and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut, but thankfully your here to put me straight.
Well my friends drive EV's, one is the latest RHD Tesla, I'm in the planning stage of a high performance custom build for myself and if you had any idea you would know that EMPD's are not bombs, contain no explosives and don't go "Boom" :/
@1BustedMyth If you want to Mess with EMP loads be my guest (But you will not lay a finger on my car) And ofcourse i know that EMP bombs burns up chips (Electromagnetic Pulse), but electric cars here in
What, you think im a stupid idiot that doesnt know what a EMP is?..
To remind you, i dont like it when people start to re-explain subjects when its unesessary..
Thats not the kinda respect you desserve in my perspective buddy.
You seems amazingly offended when i mentioned EMP.
@Zoza15 Why do you ride a pushbike? Most cars will stop, some permanently, no exceptions.
I don't know you, so how can I do anything but judge you by your comments.
I've had decades of people being smart assed to me and my friends about electric cars and clean power technology, its easy to ridicule, but people spend their entire lives solving these problems. When people are being killed for oil etc, I think its no longer a joke. until the public demand it, push hard, it will not happen
@1BustedMyth I decide what to drive into, not you..
And since youve change youre subject about electric cars, Let me tell you that The Netherlands and Germany and France, Italy, Belgium, has allready begun with electric cars within its first stage's.. We have several electric fill stations.. We allready use Solar Panels, Windmills, Hell even i have my own Solar panels!.
So these developments here are nothing new, they only evolve better and better, that goes for electric cars as well..
@1BustedMyth If Electric cars cant be pushed in youre country, dont blame the people that dont prefer it.
Maybe the people in Australia are not ready for that.
You can invent something, but you cannot suddently push it to the public face, the people first want to see how sustainable and efficient electric batteries duration and the benefits are before people actually buy an electric car to drive in.
To actually use clean energy, the principle must top everything we use today to juice power.
This song reminds me of the days when I was popping double stack extacy every 3 hours... ahhhhh My braind is like a piece of crap now and slowly getting better...
At the start of the video, the techno music made me want to leave the video and consider suicide and then by the middle of the video i started bobbing my head, and by the end i ran through my house fist bumping!
"Nissan began construction on a 30-car solar charging station outside of the future Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant in Tennessee. The solar charging port is expected to be completed in July, and will use renewable energy to charge the Nissan Leafs that will be produced there in 2012. The Nissan Leaf and its 24 kWh lithium ion battery pack are currently manufactured in Japan". - reviews.cnet.com
That didn't take long. Do you think this is a good idea?
it wont be very long till cars will be able to use solar and wind energy(shouldn't look bad with intakes) to extend range and well, not even need a recharge if you don't use the car on long distances
koenigsegg quant will have a a large surface of its body with stuff like photoelectric cells, but you wont be able to notice it,their developing the car with another company to do that
and theres new battery technology ,but nobody ever uses every new thing on a car
Has anyone made an electric 4X4 for the desert? The desert has infinite amounts of sun and wind. This energy is free. The only cost is to develop solar and wind technology for the desert climate. It has been suggested that oil producing nation think about utilizing their desert for electricity. This way they can trade in electricity and oil.
In the desert there will be electricity for as long as the sun shines and wind blows.
@SuperiorMind Do you think you've stumped me with those ones? Mate, Humans are the only creatures that creates it's own problems to solve, due to boredom! Other creatures create solutions to problems at hand, for survival!
See the difference?
If living arrangements and travel were the problems then move from those places and stop using trains and build things that last longer rather than building temp crap! Simple!
Any other man-made, false problem you want to throw at me? :-)
Generate your own electricity to power your home and car! Wind and Solar, done right, can do both 24 hrs a day! FUCK FOSSIL FUELS AND FUCK NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS! Go green and keep the Earth green! Keep pumping out poisonous black smoke and poison the Earth, and you with it, to death! MAKE YOUR CHOICE!
@Itsmeeman1 Yes - generating our own electricity reducing dependency and minimizing exploitation would be the best way to go wherever possible. Tho lots of ppl in appartments, basements, etc - lots of trans systems and construction depending on large sources of energy too.
@Itsmeeman1 You need to cover your entire house and garden to run just 1 electric car and you won't be able to run your house even with. Lets not forget those "high tech batteries" have about a 5 year life just like any others and a bank for a new electric car costs thousands and thousands of pounds to replace.
Get your heads out your arses green hippies. Going green is MORE expensive cos shit like electric cars costs twice as much and need constant expensive mataniance. Solar pannels also.
@mrdojob Solar panels are advancing along with alternative bios, but wind generated electricity is the new resource. Our drafting department is currently teaching the newest designs in high-tech windmills. One mill can produce enough to power a large single story building. The conflict is a battle between oil investors/backers for energy production and sales.
@mrdojob Green hippies? ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! You mean back yard tinkerer? I've been dealing with Gasoline since the time I could walk. I've built GO karts, Boats, Trucks, Racing mowers, Cars, hell anything you can think of. It gets old after a while. I pump more Co2 Cranking my Truck then your little fucking tree hugging prius does in a year. and I am very well interested in EV's. Add up all the money you spend in 5 years on Gas, and maintance on your car. That pays for those batteries fuckwad
@14omega28ok One thing that would really help the electric vehicle industry reduce price substantially is if Chevorn would release the patent it purchased from GM (who bought it from Ovonics) to once again allow large format NiMH batteries for cars. This is the main factor that has held back the electric vehicle industry in the past 10 years and effectively killed it 10 years ago. The NiMH battery had the potential to produce vehicles that could compete directly with gas cars.
The price of the Green n Cars is a SCAM!! They start at 26k to 31k. My 2009 Corolla cost 6k. Now if Gas cost $4-gal, in one year (at 12,000-miles per year) that would be $1,464. So it would take over 14 years i.e; 14 x $1,464 = $20,496,
(Plus the 6k I paid for my corolla). For a total of = $26,496. So an Electric car will TAKE 14 + Years (minis the cost of charging it) to match a Gas car like Corolla.
@robertquentincobb If you were told tomorrow that gas has run out what would you do? We are in the proactive stage of transportation. Being proactive will assure that you still have transportation choices. The first gasoline car was very expensive until Henry Ford came along. Thanks to Henry Ford cars were mass produced and the cost came down and taxes were raised from gasoline to pay for roads and auto infrastructure.
North America has done this before we know what we are doing.
@robertquentincobb Bias example. Wide range of prices for electric vehicles and a lot of ppl are making custom built electric cars. As competition emerges and as the price of gas climbs as oil supply fails to meet rising demand -- it would be silly not to consider electric transportation alternatives.
i would like to expand the idea of building electric car charging stations into parking meters. How much would you choose to pay to fuel (charge) and park your car?
I don't think electric cars are a solution to the oil crisis if the electricity is not being generated in an environmentally friendly way. And if any one else suggests nuclear power then I have one word, Japan..
@deftroniks Obviously there's no such thing as A(as in single) solution to the oil crisis - it is a complex dynamic problem which needs to be tackled from many angles -- this is only one of the essential ingredients. And if anyone doesn't suggest nuclear energy - I have one word. Ignorant. Ppl have a problem with the word nuclear because of their ignorant reactionist attitude -- it's like assuming that all forms of solar collectors are solar panels. Check out thorium - LFTR. Do some research.
I don't have a problem with the word nuclear, I have a problem with the radioactive filth that a nuclear power plant produces. They are bombs just waiting to go off. With all the technology in the world and the ingenuity of mankind I think we can do a lot better than that. That's all I'm saying.
@deftroniks 1) Modern nuclear plants do not create radioactive filth -- even the old ones resulted in radioactive rods in paranoid containment that were stored in safe deposits until could be dealt with later -- now we can
2) They are not bombs waiting to go off -- there are different types of nuclear energy harnessing methods -- u should research thorium -- the case of Japan was an old 1960's tech method with improper setup -- cooling backup probs -- batteries -- ground based generators -
@SuperiorMind Problem with connector for imported power - problem with ignitor to burn off hydrogen resulting from splitting of hydrogen and oxygen - temperature - water-based cooling -- pumps not running -- rods too close together -- etc...... stupid design
Besides which check out LFTR - no waste - no water cooling problems possible, etc... definately no bomb
Wattage output vs dollar vs economic effectiveness -- best possible method to reach growing demand for energy preventing economic colpse
@SuperiorMind Thank you for clearing up that misconception about nuclear plants being "bombs waiting to go off". However, as a larger metaphor, it IS true. Even if there is never another serious accident at a nuclear plant, the endless babysitting and maintenance and lack of permanent waste storage, even if there's fuel reprocessing, and even if the health damage from radioactivity is overstated, make nuclear plants not worth the cost.
@SuperiorMind Creating extreme localized order, such as a sustained nuclear reactor, MUST come at a far greater disorder OUTSIDE that system (reactor). No such similar degree of localized order is created for solar and wind farms. Obviously, some (building the windmill, making the solar cells), but nothing to the degree nuclear power plants do. Hence, the outside environmental and financial disorder (costs) of solar and wind will always be less than nuclear.
The Middle East is a good market for electric cars. They can produce solar and wind electricity which can also be exported. i know some people want to get away from trading with the Middle East. However, if that happens then the terrorist have won.
The Middle East oil has helped to build North Americas economy. It seems logical to continue energy trade with this region. Osama is dead, he did/does not represent all Middle East people.
Forget about all the "green" stuff. The reality is we have the choice to use oil until it is used up.
Will the Middle East standard of living change when oil is gone. Is it time to use their oil revenue to invest in innovative solutions such as desert solar and wind energy grids? Can one export electricity?
@etellurian (don't forget to factor in the supply-demand problem and the catastrophic economic consequences) Upgraded grids and thorium-nuclear are the best solutions I've looked at so far considering all variables.
@SuperiorMind for the desert regions that need employment innovative solar and wind grids designed for this environment would be a good choice. This type of power grid would have no polluting qualities. It's a very clean energy suited for desert environments. There is thousands of miles of desert land. This land can offer a sustainable source of energy for as long as the sun shines and wind blows. It would be good to build such grids before the oil in the desert runs out.
@leaualorin No i haven't heard about that project but its logical and makes sence. Just a tip (without insults etc); if you want to voice your opinion, dont start by insulting others. You treated me in your first comment like i was an oblivious dumb shit who thinks the world will never run out of reasources. In high sigh, I understand what you're saying, i would just prefer to drive an electric car that looks like a modest car today.

Does it help the environment if your electric car gets plugged into a coal-powered outlet?
123gwf 2 weeks ago
@123gwf Yes. Even if charged from coal fired power, the pollution is a tiny fraction of petrol. It actually takes more electricity to run a petrol car than an electric car, just from the electricity used to pump the oil and refine it into petrol.

Or as a second approach, if your on the highway, have electrifyed rails under the lanes or whatnot to charge

motionapplied 1 month ago
@motionapplied Well hopefully ppl wisen up to dependency on huge rich external companies whom manipulate the systems making slaves out of the laborers - by not allowing imposition of legislation which makes it impossible for ppl to create their own energy (or water, food, etc) independently -- thus retaining our ability to install modern solar collectors, (water collectors, atriums, etc) and live independently allowing us to retain spending money and revive the economy...
SuperiorMind 1 month ago
@SuperiorMind total independence will not work. total dependence is also wrong. therefore we must seek for a solution that lies in the middle. remember: the industrials and the people of the governments are more dependent of the workers than the other way around - especially when one worker doesn't mistrust the other one nor do they let themselves intrigue against each other in front of those governmentals and industrialiens.
motionapplied 1 month ago
@motionapplied Good points -- I'm thinking proper regulations to make the game fair - as well as the freedom to chose non-dependent solutions should reduce exploitation and allow workers to start spending money on more than just shelter, energy and what little food they can still afford. Like your point tho - we need balance so the infrastructure doesn't fall apart -- so I'm thinking any alterations must be gradual.

Well... nice clip with lots of info and such.
But I hope I'm wrong. :-/

If your commute to work is just 5 miles away get an e bike.Be efficient.
m9078jk3 2 months ago
Only problem with electric cars is the heavy vehicle mass (which is wasteful) as compared to the driver, passenger, cargo they carry. The less the mass of the vehicle the more energy efficient it becomes.Hence an electric bike is highly energy efficient because of its very light weight.Vehicles under 400 pounds are efficient for conversion.I've seen a electratrike ultralight aircraft.Electric scooters are efficient too.Not so with cars unless it's weight is reduced to the 100's of pounds.

LOL pathetic if you want Torque try 3000 ft lbs @ 0 - 250 RPM.. and thats 300 year old tech. fit into something little bigger then a John deere tractor. If you want torque so bad thats where its at. Not in American V8's.

@SuperiorMind The electric car lobby often neglects the needs remote communities and their city centric ideology doesn't translate well into the real world for a lot of people, at least not for the moment.

Just a thought.

psgakm4 4 months ago
@psgakm4
You're absolutely correct, an EV recharge from a power plant using fossil fuels would be producing emissions. However, far less emissions are produced to create the power for the EV than would be produced by an internal combustion engined car. Ultimately there is only one direction for our grid to move in; renewable energy. The more that happens, the more emissions free your EV becomes.

how much do these cars cost to produce in terms of resources? is it more than your average gasoline powered car?
wufabufa 5 months ago
@wufabufa Probably the same. However, one-time manufacturing costs of a product are ALWAYS dwarfed by lifetime fuel costs.
mphello 4 months ago
@mphello ok ok. Yeah, stuff like that has always kind of bothered me. Do you know of anything that's considered "green" that actually costs more to produce? I know ethanol and bio diesel costs more fossil fuel to produce than refining oil into gasoline. Also, I've heard that recycling paper and plastic costs more in terms of resources than it does to produce them from scratch....
wufabufa 4 months ago

@vEkliipze Agreed. The technology has been here for a long time. Electric cars made easy 101. Now they can make one that only maximizes at 100mph (like the Prius), and go for acceleration and economy.

@vEkliipze LOL at least its good to know that we can do this!!! The fact that we hold it back due to money that cant be controlled is another issue.
Valoktheholy 5 months ago
@vEkliipze I originally thought that aswell... but thats not the case, a speed limiter would be what we're after... but we can't make a car that can only go 100 max because if we had a full load, towing something travelling at 100 would overload the motor pretty quick... the Power needs to be able to do 240 so at 100 you can have a full load, while towing, and not stress the car out. We need the power, but we need a speed limiter.

All an EMP bomb would do to a battery would be to recharge it a little bit.
The controller microchips on the other hand, would fry.
And the local powerplant would probably cut out due to too high voltage on the grid, and have to be recstarted.
So you wouldn't be able to recharge until that's up. Not that it would matter, because the controller would still be fried.

A hell of a lot of money is being handed out by governments to support electric cars instead of making gasoline & diesel cars more efficient

Germany has invested a ton into electric cars. Wants a million eletric cars on the road by 2020. Every nation should invest like this.

Itsmeeman1 8 months ago 4
@Itsmeeman1 Yes - generating our own electricity reducing dependency and minimizing exploitation would be the best way to go wherever possible. Tho lots of ppl in appartments, basements, etc - lots of trans systems and construction depending on large sources of energy too.
SuperiorMind 8 months ago
@Itsmeeman1 Damn! I already gave out my "BEST COMMENT EVER!" to another comment on this video.
Well, no reason you can't BOTH be equally best!
BEST COMMENT EVER!

Solar pannels also.
mrdojob 3 months ago

14omega28ok 3 weeks ago

KEEP YOUR small GAS CAR!
robertquentincobb 8 months ago
@robertquentincobb If you were told tomorrow that gas has run out what would you do? We are in the proactive stage of transportation. Being proactive will assure that you still have transportation choices. The first gasoline car was very expensive until Henry Ford came along. Thanks to Henry Ford cars were mass produced and the cost came down and taxes were raised from gasoline to pay for roads and auto infrastructure.
North America has done this before we know what we are doing.

@etellurian GREATEST COMMENT EVER!
mphello 4 months ago
@robertquentincobb Bias example. Wide range of prices for electric vehicles and a lot of ppl are making custom built electric cars. As competition emerges and as the price of gas climbs as oil supply fails to meet rising demand -- it would be silly not to consider electric transportation alternatives.

i would like to expand the idea of building electric car charging stations into parking meters. How much would you choose to pay to fuel (charge) and park your car?
Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

I don't think electric cars are a solution to the oil crisis if the electricity is not being generated in an environmentally friendly way. And if any one else suggests nuclear power then I have one word, Japan..
deftroniks 8 months ago
@deftroniks Obviously there's no such thing as A(as in single) solution to the oil crisis - it is a complex dynamic problem which needs to be tackled from many angles -- this is only one of the essential ingredients. And if anyone doesn't suggest nuclear energy - I have one word. Ignorant. Ppl have a problem with the word nuclear because of their ignorant reactionist attitude -- it's like assuming that all forms of solar collectors are solar panels. Check out thorium - LFTR. Do some research.
SuperiorMind 8 months ago
@SuperiorMind
I don't have a problem with the word nuclear, I have a problem with the radioactive filth that a nuclear power plant produces. They are bombs just waiting to go off. With all the technology in the world and the ingenuity of mankind I think we can do a lot better than that. That's all I'm saying.
deftroniks 8 months ago
@deftroniks 1) Modern nuclear plants do not create radioactive filth -- even the old ones resulted in radioactive rods in paranoid containment that were stored in safe deposits until could be dealt with later -- now we can
2) They are not bombs waiting to go off -- there are different types of nuclear energy harnessing methods -- u should research thorium -- the case of Japan was an old 1960's tech method with improper setup -- cooling backup probs -- batteries -- ground based generators -
SuperiorMind 8 months ago
@SuperiorMind Problem with connector for imported power - problem with ignitor to burn off hydrogen resulting from splitting of hydrogen and oxygen - temperature - water-based cooling -- pumps not running -- rods too close together -- etc...... stupid design
Besides which check out LFTR - no waste - no water cooling problems possible, etc... definately no bomb
Wattage output vs dollar vs economic effectiveness -- best possible method to reach growing demand for energy preventing economic colpse
SuperiorMind 8 months ago
@SuperiorMind Thank you for clearing up that misconception about nuclear plants being "bombs waiting to go off". However, as a larger metaphor, it IS true. Even if there is never another serious accident at a nuclear plant, the endless babysitting and maintenance and lack of permanent waste storage, even if there's fuel reprocessing, and even if the health damage from radioactivity is overstated, make nuclear plants not worth the cost.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics makes it so.
mphello 4 months ago

Peace,

Forget about all the "green" stuff. The reality is we have the choice to use oil until it is used up.
Will the Middle East standard of living change when oil is gone. Is it time to use their oil revenue to invest in innovative solutions such as desert solar and wind energy grids? Can one export electricity?

etellurian 9 months ago
@etellurian (don't forget to factor in the supply-demand problem and the catastrophic economic consequences) Upgraded grids and thorium-nuclear are the best solutions I've looked at so far considering all variables.
SuperiorMind 8 months ago
@SuperiorMind for the desert regions that need employment innovative solar and wind grids designed for this environment would be a good choice. This type of power grid would have no polluting qualities. It's a very clean energy suited for desert environments. There is thousands of miles of desert land. This land can offer a sustainable source of energy for as long as the sun shines and wind blows. It would be good to build such grids before the oil in the desert runs out.

when will this be in the market? i love to have one cause gasoline are so expensive .
dhrk2k7 9 months ago
@leaualorin No i haven't heard about that project but its logical and makes sence. Just a tip (without insults etc); if you want to voice your opinion, dont start by insulting others. You treated me in your first comment like i was an oblivious dumb shit who thinks the world will never run out of reasources. In high sigh, I understand what you're saying, i would just prefer to drive an electric car that looks like a modest car today.
Check out the Survolt. Thats what i mean.
