I think the reason the whole 'regeneration' thing works so well is because of how existentially terrifying it is. I mean, when the doctor 'regenerates', his entire personality and body change (including his brain.) In that sense, how can he even be considered the same person? Nothing that made him the man that he was remains after the regeneration except for his clothes, his screwdriver, and his little blue box.
Wilf is one of my favourite characters from Doctor who. The way he relates to Doctor as a friend, as a warrior, almost as a father in some ways, I love him.
The Doctor certainly needs a Donna hug!!! The way he looked at her & his voice when he spoke about what would happen to her if she remembered him definitely confirmed that Donna had become the most important person in his life - a person he trusts, respects, loves & most of all the person that he could rely on to stop him when it counted! Doctor 10 & Donna will forever remain my ultimate favourite pairing of Doctor & companion right after the 4th Doctor & Sarah (you can't go past classic Who!!)
Cribbins needs to return along with Captain Jack. I know they wrapped that character line up already, but those two would make the new series even better.
I loved the crap out of Tennant the whole time, but this scene cemented him as one of the finest actors I know. Here's this 30-something-year-old man, sitting across the table from this very old man, and I believe that he's seen fully 900 years of pain and struggle.
Goddamn RTD, why do you have to have awesome characters like Wilf and brilliant little scenes like this sprinkled here and there in crap crap crap crap stories
I hated the David Tennet Doctor Whos, Not because he was a bad Doctor, because they were some of the worst written episodes I've everseen, Thank God the new series is a step back in the right direction
@Rachulie Donna was a companion of the doctors and Donna accidentally became part time lord when she absorbs some regeneration energy but she had a time lords mind in a human body and it was killing her so the doctor had to wipe her memory. The doctor is also sad because he has been told by a woman with foresight that he is going to die. I recommend you watch the whole episode because it was brilliant
David is big actor.....He had to be also us next episodes season 5!!!sad episode indeed but Doctor has made me excite it had to still live..!!!it is not correct
ok so what's all this about then? i stopped watching after doomsday. it pissed me off bc i loved rose. i realize i've missed SO much. i know they can't keep billie on there forever but really, he could be with rose forever. but i guess the writters have other plans
guess what, the cafe they are in, is in my city! and i went in there and sat in same seat as David did! PROOF: if you go in there, the have a pic on the wall that david signed :)
I'm very grateful that they put this scene in, because it is hard and I hate it when people tell someone who has a lot to deal with to shut up and put on a smile because it makes them uncomfortable. He needs someone, and it shows, and I wish there were more strong people in the world that could be there for someone who needed it. I love Wilf. :)
Blargh. Never liked RTD's whole "regeneration = death!!" business. Seemed like a really cheap way of manipulating the audience's emotions by cruelly twisting a beloved concept. (So back when Romana was trying to decide on a new look she killed her own soul several times over? Right...)
I got really sick of Angst!Doctor by the end of Tennant's run...to be honest, the writers did such irreparable damage to his characterization over 3.5 seasons that a regeneration was ultimately the only way out.
I have watched Doctor Who since the very first episode in 1963 and I probably didn't miss an episode for the first twenty years, but as I grew older, I drifted away and because of that, I have not really seen much of the Doctor Who of recent years but I am impressed with the way that it, just like me, has grown up. I am not ashamed to say I had a tear in my eye watching this. Lovely to see Bernard Cribbins still working at the age of 81.. Happy 82nd Birthday on Wednesday 29th December, Bernard
This scene always makes me cry. Because its not just because Ten knows he's going to die and can't help it, its because they're two old men talking about death, even though The Doctor's is only regeneration, it feels like dying to him.
Its so... touching, and it just... Awuh, I miss you David Tennant.

A timelord can still be killed in the middle of regeneration.
oh boy...I think a member of the silence was in the cafe overhearing it.

At the end of series 4, the Doctor was so alone and so very lost, it was almost unbearable to watch.
I think David's Doctor was the was alonest of the eleventh, even though he had many companions (Rose, Martha, Donna...).
