  • One crazy mother-plucker

  • Dude! You rule on your band! sounds really awsome and even though the songs sound cool your bass playing made it what I think is the best! Did you use this bass guitar? on the album?

  • Myung excersises :D

  • hows the weight

  • @TheJfac Perfect, actually. It all depends on the quality of your strap. I got a nice thick one so it feels like any other bass, honestly.

  • Probably a stupid question, but the seventh string is added for higher notes, right? (compared to 6 string)

  • @avada0 Yeah, it's a high F string added onto the regular 6 string bass.

  • @MistaMarko And i though it was a low string, lower than the B...it is better to be high,to solos and chords,a lowr string i can´t see why to use something below the B

  • Unlike most bass videos I watch. That wasn't gay! :D now save up for a Chapman stick

  • @Zerodomy The Chapman Stick is for fucking tapping expert rich gentlemen lol

  • @Zerodomy i'd love one someday

  • i found this website that makes string guages all the way up to .270. do you think i could slap a string that size on a conklin and tune the bass to G# C# F# B E A D G C. and do you think the pickups on a conklin could pick up a note that low

  • @bassist1209 I'm positive a string gauge bigger than about .145 wouldn't even fit in the nut slot. I'm currently using a .136 B and it's a nice fit, just barely. You'd definitely have to get a custom nut cut and replace it. As far as the pickups, sure, it's more the cab you'd need to be worried about. Most cabs don't respond to notes under 31 Hz (the B string, as because the average bass never goes below B). You'd have to probably have an 18" sub and a really particular EQ to make it audible!

  • @bassist1209 Dude, you realize that the two lowest strings will just sound like farting no matter what pickups you have?

Not to mention, I don't even know if humans can hear that low...

  • @squiresuzuki How low you can hear doesn't effect it, most people will never "hear" properly the E string or lower, it's a matter os pshyco acoustics (either google or PM if you want an explination)

  • @AttitudeCastle I was referring to the guy mentioning a bass guitar with a G#, C#, F#, B, E, A, D, G tuning.

  • @squiresuzuki I know, you said "Not to mention, I don't even know if humans can hear that low..." and the answer is yes and no, due to the way the human ears and brain work so you can use uber low tunings if you want, amplification would be an issue but it is possible it's probably just too low to sound good,

  • ahaha! fucking awesome! not your bass playing ( its okay ) but u wuld be a fucking COOOL like 80's pop band bassist.. like the ultimate bassist.. how do u lie the 7 string? comfortable?

  • 0:47 - 0:55 - Take The Time by Dream Theater?

  • nice bowl cut fag

  • @supafluffychinchilla come at me bro

  • @MistaMarko JERSEY SHORE THROWDOWN!

  • @MistaMarko Sure smells like summer in here.

  • thats a wierd one you need a fretless

  • one question how did you afford a $1900 bass?

  • @PennybagDarrell I got a job...worked...saved up money...pretty common practice when purchasing expensive items. :)

  • @MistaMarko ahh good job! i just got a job so hopefully i can start saving twords things i want. like for starters a Fender Villager.

  • What conditioner do you use?...Nah just pissing around.

  • @prenticeanyonywright I don't use any actually, nor do I have this hairstyle anymore, lol.

  • @MistaMarko GOOD for you :)

  • hey, do 7 string have one higher string or one lower?

  • @2ndperspective The capitalized letters are the strings additional to a regular four string. So, the tuning is: B e a d g C F -- one lower (B), two higher (C and F).

  • hmmm... i wonder which song is being played at 1:00. dont think ive heard it before. :P hey i was wondering if this bass is really good for jazz. i mainly play walking bass lines and such and im thinking this for my next bass.

  • @thecrashinghighways at 1:00 I'm just playing chords, it isn't a song...I've been asked a lot what that is lol. I'm just playing Am9, G#9, G9...anyway, this would be GREAT for walking basslines, you just need the right strings. Definitely get this bass, you won't regret it, it's super versatile. I used it for jazz for a good while.

  • @MistaMarko o thanks! haha i was joking with the 1:00 because it sounded like Stairway to Heaven.

  • @MistaMarko Sounds Metallica-esque at the beginning of the chords

  • wish they made this in a 6 string because of the getting strings issues I change my string monthly. Ive went lower than B. Even down to F# which was kinda silly IMO because F#, G, and G#, all pretty much sound the same because they are so low.. I was actually thinking about getting this bass and tuning g#,b,e,a,d,g,c with a 6 string set and a .145. I've used all the way up to a 175 for F# but it was too big just wondering if the string spacing is to close for the 145 no one has one around here.

  • @nephilymbass1 Mot entirely sure what your asking but the string spacing is 16mm, and i've played a 7 tuned F# B E A D G C gaugeds .175 .140 . 115 .85 .70 .50 .40 I tend to use those on my 6 as well (minus the low F#) though i'd lightnen the gauges by about .005

And as for the lower tunings it depends on your cabs most cabs don't gow below 31Hz which is roughly a Low Ab i think and anything below is just mushy and flabby

  • @AttitudeCastle my cab is an ampeg 810E I run it mono with sans amp RBI as a pre into the effects return of an SWR 750x (so all I'm using on the 750 is the limiter and the power amp) . My rig handled F# pretty well. I used a warwick dark lord set along with a single d string on a warwick corvette 5 so it was f#,b,e,a,d,. Your gauges sound crazy to me, no offense. My main bass is a Warwick thumb neck through and I use DR tight fit high beams with a .125 low B and its awesome on that bass

  • @nephilymbass1 Well thats an 810E! One of the best bass cabs in the world! And the SWRs have great response,

Yeah I tend to Use HEAVY Gauges because of how i like the tension, A friend of mine who plays with .80 E string played my bass and couldn't take it!

The Dark lords are great strings too, As are DRs and Warwicks!

  • @AttitudeCastle definetly good to know the bigger strings could work well, thanks man.

  • What's the tuning?

  • @zaretix B E A D G C F

  • Love the harmonic lick

  • what is the tuning?

  • @zackerz9311 B E A D G C F

  • does it give a neck dive whan playing sitting down?

  • @dwprsk Not at all, actually. Ash is a super heavy wood so the body is already heavy, but the top horn if you notice is really oddly big and longer than the bottom horn, this is just a weight block basically. It's a perfectly balanced instrument ergonomically I'd say. Very comfortable.

  • you should give bass lessons. this is nice.

  • @mahsbl I plan on it, I just don't have any students...mwahaha. However, there is a video on my channel right now where I give a lesson about 3-Finger technique. Feel free to check it out!

  • hey try an effect pedal it would be great :D

  • @andreasmariosetiawan I have some, this is just a demo video. :)

  • take the time at 0:54! i wanna see myung with a 7string sometime

  • @kiwimcoffee He's too good with a 6 already, though.

  • Do they make these basses in left handed?

  • @DanThornton01 Not sure, I would think so, though. They're a custom company.

  • @MistaMarko Damn you have the same hair as bieber

  • @jvmc08 He's my role model, so it's pretty understandable.

  • @MistaMarko hahahaha, I hope you're being sarcastic

  • @jvmc08 Not at all.

  • what's the weight on this bass?

    thx

  • @dwprsk Pretty heavy, I think 14-15 lbs?

  • @MistaMarko

wow...too heavy for me... i was thinking of buying actually...

    tq

  • @dwprsk If you have a nice strap, it's not that hard/heavy...don't be a wimp! : )

  • @MistaMarko

nothing about masculinity bro.I bet any bassist would take anything under 10lbs..what more I got HNP, so I wont risk my back on that thing..I think Elrick,MTD or XOTIC made lighter basses....good luck with your music!

  • @dwprsk I was just kidding...it's really not as bad, I promise.

  • @MistaMarko you are right! I just bought one.last week.. Exactly same finish like yours..Doesnt feel too heavy when strapped...

  • i like how you played stuff from tetrafusion, did you use this bass in the recordings?

  • @326AM Sure did!!

  • have you ever tried recording with this bass amp? because whenever I do the recording equipment always picks up the hiss and buzzing. How do I get rid of the buzz and hissing when I record?

  • @PinoyPurpleAng Nah, I use my main GK rig with a 4x10 cab. Absolute zero hiss! These amps are made in China and are moderately cheap; it's going to happen. Roll back on the treble and give it some high mids. Same effect but less hiss. Buzzing, if you mean fret buzzing, is just an setup problem. Is that what you mean?

  • @MistaMarko

When you say "Absolute Zero hiss" are you referring to your first album? I didn't notice any hiss on the album, so I feel confused. Perhaps you have a special hiss??

  • @mahsbl Jeff, why aren't you on Comedy Central yet?

  • Love the take the time lick lol

  • 0:16

sounds like the human abstract-crossing the rubicon

  • @8195229 Never have heard of them, but cool!

  • @wtfjaftw Lol, that isn't a bowl cut, don't be a retard. I've never had a bowl cut in my life. If you're truly concerned about my hair style, you can check out a video I uploaded yesterday; I don't have this hair cut anymore.

  • @MistaMarko

maybe you should have gotten your hair cut like your cooler older brothers?

  • @mahsbl Maybe so!

  • I like the Pickups sound.

  • @GORFF987 Bartolini's are awesome!

  • That is a sexy beast.

  • @ColonelColostomy I agree... :)

  • MistaMarko: 0:34 to 0:44. What's the right-hand technique going on there? I'm just curious because that seems like the section where you're getting the fastest notes.

Are you just using two fingers on the right hand, or more?

It'd be cool if you could make a short tutorial video sometime going over how to get fast notes like that with the right hand. I know I'd certainly appreciate it. I'm thinking of getting into fast metal.

    Thanks in advance for reading/responding.

  • @Solaphar Just because of this comment I'm considering making a tutorial! Hopefully one will be up soon. To answer your question, it's just a three-finger plucking technique. I pluck Ring, Middle, Index. I might have the tutorial up this weekend...if you're subscribed, just look out for the notification email thing! -Mark

  • @MistaMarko

That's really cool of you. I'll be looking forward to watching it once you have it up. And yeah, I'm subbed to your channel.

  • This kids lucky

  • @jewmommaify How so??

  • @jewmommaify Because, a 7 string bass? Come on, Im still saveing up for the strings, I dont evern have the bass yet!

  • Were you in the movie Star Trek?

  • @Aeliux probly

  • nice dude, i actually played a 6string bass that was tuned E A D G C F and it was intresting because i honestly hadnt thought of tuning UP and am now considering buying a 7string bass to do a bit of what you were doing in this video. I like the lows that the B can offer but i also like how ith that high F you can do nice little jazzy lines. What do you think would be a smarter choice for someone whos looking to experiment with new things? Tune up a 6 string or just get a 7 lol

    Nice playing btw

  • @goradcore I'd give in and grab a 7! (yeah, I'm biased...) -- I really only bought the 7 to use for chords, or extended range bass lines. Although I do a lot of solo-shredding junk myself, it's not why I bought it. Plus I was getting my 3rd bass and already had a 4 and 5, and didn't want to repeat myself. The low B is more useful, the high F is more of a novelty in my opinion. Good luck!

  • @goradcore What gauge strings do you use for that style of six string bass tuning?

  • Take the Time at 0:46 :)

  • Une 7cordes ??? j'en veux une !!

  • @lagranged86 haha, well i dont know why everyone's posting that. this was a year and a half ago and i look totally different now. check the default on my band's page and you'll see it if you're that worried about it ;-)

  • has this bass got like a 6 string setup but with a lower string than B or higher than C ?

  • @samuelboyd12 Yeah, it's B E A D G C F

  • Lol I love how you just replied "k" to all the haters. Great playing, keep it up

  • @Samus5164 haha, thanks!

  • Nice bass!..and I enjoyed listening.

  • @enduroallnight thanks!

  • sorry, but you have a bowl cut.

  • seriously, what is the point?

  • You're a great bassist, but really man, the hair?

  • @EpicVikingBattle AHAHHA I'M NOT A BABY LIKE YOU....

  • Lovely playing man. I'm really diggin' the bass too.

  • @jordanbeeyah Awesome man, thanks a ton. Really awesome bass, I enjoy it big time!

  • ahahahaha ridicoulus

  • 0:48 take the time :D

  • @SergioBass676 indeed

  • Is it tuned BEADGCF or F#BEADGC or something different?

  • BEADGCF!

  • @sth209 the former

  • Lot of eejits on the comment section.

This video isn't REALLLY about him showing you tone, its him being excited about his great new bass (last year).

Was probably still getting used to the feel of it and was too excited to wait and get something linear together for a video.

    I don't blame him :-)

  • @TimJMorrison Absolutely right you are!

  • nice bass, sounds really clean!!

  • @geofbass Thanks, I blame the Bartolini's : )

  • my last name is conklin

  • cool

  • hey all of you, he iss just playing random stuff ok?

    xD

  • not exactly random, some of that is just scales

  • Indeed. Not trying to play anything structured...it's a test/sampling video to showcase the instrument..

    -Mark

  • i reeally like your band dude. i am from louisiana myself. (Lafayette) I am a14 and have been playin bass for about a year now and hope to be as good as you r. :) can't wait for your next album.

  • Awesome man, I really appreciate that Glad you enjoy Tetrafusion as well. Lafayette...haven't been there in about 5 years! Fun town.

And yeah man, our new album will be out in late Spring/early Summer. Please stay on board at our MySpace/Facebook so you don't miss out on it!

    -Mark

  • You seem to be very comfortable on that. Good job. Id like to have a Conklin, but Id also like to have an Upright.

  • Thanks man. You should definitely get a Conklin...I recommend them to anyone. I wish I played Upright, so I can't say the same!

  • That's an awesome bass, dude. Great tone and really nice playing. Extended Range Bass FTW :-D

  • Thanks a bunch dude, I appreciate it. Indeed, ERB's for the win!

  • You're right, it doesn't. I can play "solid grooves" on a four string just fine. I did that for three years when I started.

  • it's nonsense

  • It is?

  • too big for you man!

    take a ukulele!!!lol

  • Not at all.

  • @fredbass77

    you are a bitch.

  • THANKS BRO!!!

  • sure!

  • DUDE!!! do me a big favor!! send me a message please telling me how you do the metalic sounds like on 1:50 PLEASE!! i begg of you lol thanx!!!

  • those are called natural harmonics, and can be performed on both a guitar and bass. look up lessons on youtube. basically you put your finger over either the 12, 7, 5, 3rd fret, but down push down, and pluck the string.

  • @alzates hey im guessing your talking about the harmonics, all you do is put your finger between the frets (by the over the metal bar) and just have your finger touching the string over it. world bests on the 5th, 7th, and 12th fret

  • thanks guys haha. I didn't feel like answering that!

  • how much cost this bass?

  • A lot.

  • Hey, Your band just added me on myspace. I'm that other 7-string bassist that you were talking to. Great stuff! Love improvising on that big thing. Is that riff at 1:30 something you wrote? Because it sounds rather familiar. Anyway, you've got yourself another subscriber!

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks dude! Glad to have you on board here. The riff at 1:30 is just the chord progression to Autumn Leaves (jazz standard) and I just did a jazzy/funky rhythm to it or whatever, so that's why it's probably familiar lol. Thanks again for subscribing!

  • To master a 6 string or 7 string bass you first have to master a 4 string. Play it, make yourself fully comfortable with it and do amazing things THEN move your way up. Going straight to 6 or 7 won't make you any more amazing if you don't know how to properly use it.

  • Not really man, if it helps you to make the music you want to make, then there are no "rules" to where you have to start.

  • Agreed. I don't see why you'd have to master a 4 before moving onto an ERB. It seems silly to me, and a waste of time if you know you want to play ERBs and not 4 strings.

  • I would 100%. I started on guitar too and missed being able to comp chords sometimes in jazz, or on finishing chords in songs being able to fatten the sound up. Never fails with this bass at all. It's just a really comfortable range for me.

  • Well, going from guitar to bass is an upgrade even if the bass has just one string :)

The number of strings doesn't really matter. If you wan't a 7, get a seven.

  • are you fucked?? going to four strings is not downgrading.

oh, and if u want to start bass, go with four strings... all the rest are quite un-nessessary

  • lol

  • why is he lol? He is totally right - if you want start bass, then play on 4 string...of course that more strings aren't un-nessessary, but true is, that you have to be able to play on 4 strings... If somebody can play on 7,8 or 12 strings(whatever), but absolutelly can't play on 4, then he is not bassguitarist, he is instrumentalist, of course. But not bass guitarist

  • Why is he not a bass guitarist if he can't play on 4 but can play on 5 or more? Regardless of string numbers, if the instrument is a bass guitar, they are a bass guitarist. That said, it is a slightly silly concept for someone to be unable to play less strings than they have, and wouldn't really happen, but since it's come up...

  • oh and sorry for my english, I am from Czech

  • That jibber talk.. of course MORE IS BETTER.. but ya for a beginner maybe a littel advanced an intimidating.. Un-messisary if you wanna play a lame version of mary had a little lamb

  • totally agree here

  • I have that sweatshirt. Its very warm. Haha

  • Dude, agreed! Great shirt.

  • wheres the slap man wheres the slap?

  • 1:40 - 1:44

  • 1:01 - I really like that. Is that original? The key change is really cool too.
