  • hahahahahah

  • maybe if they weren't flip catching

  • A fucking crab lost us our our first race of the season on sunday.

  • @SkyrimOrBust that sucks bro :(

  • I hate catching crabs

  • you fuckin suck at filming

  • look at all the nov-ys

  • happened to me, at national schools. we missed out on qualifying by 2 seconds. i still havent forgiven myself.

  • wow shit technique

  • clearly a novice crew..

  • Our 5 seat caught a crab at Dad Vails...we still beat Fordham...rowing by 7s...with the drag from his oar which was totally parallel to the boat.

  • @Jitters10 there'd be more drag if the oar was perpendicular to the boat

  • ugh, i know what it feels like to catch a crab right in the forehead :P most unpleasant thing ever

  • OMG HAHAHHA

  • It looks like this crab didn't happen because of under squaring on the catch but over feathering on the recovery

  • OHHHHhhhh, right in the face!

  • thats the most frustrating thing ever when you're rowing

  • They call it a Crab to avoid using a profanity (ex. (oar gets stuck in the water, coxswain screams) CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABS! Or. Man I don't feel good today, I feel like crabs.)

  • If he didn't move, he would go straight to the dentist.

  • I have a problem I am a novice rower and when try to set boat the oar keeps digging into the water. Even try turning the oar and it still dig. How can i fix this problem is it because my wrist is bending.

  • @pimpplayer91 Try moving the spacers

  • Whats with the low rigging cuz they are dragging their oars on the water and slowing down as a result

  • that happened to my friend, but it was during the race, of the one of the seasons biggest regattas.

  • Ouch shit, I Did that in my first regatta "/ TWICE :L

  • we call this "catching a crab" :)

  • ouch! he have to be more carefule sorry for my eanglish i m from AL

  • haha niiice. leave some teeth in the oar handle. crabbing is the worst

  • ow shit that was a bad one lol

  • Hahahahahahahaa! I hate that course.

  • ouch! xD

  • 0:28 is where it is at... Poor Guy...

  • Do you know if there seats are inclined??

  • not to a noticable degree.

  • yes the seats in a rowing shell are inclined. Assuming the slides and wheels are clean, any seat should 'float' into the stern of the boat on it's own.

  • @canadiandegelder are u sure the seats are inclined cause i thought the seats only float to the stern wen the boat is moving forward (meaning bow first, of course). Isnt the boat just moving under the seat, and thats why every stroke rating has its own natural return rate? and an incline seat would cause some of the force exerted by your feet on the footplate to be transfered downward toward the water rather than assisting the boat to move forward

  • @buckykatt323 on all the shells that we have, most of which are hudson, they all have inclined seats. On well maintained, newer shells, the seats will slide into the stern. Older boats have a thin wedge that is about 3/4 inch thick in the bow, then nothing in the stern, creating an decline. On newer boats, the laying of the carbon fiber deck inside the shells means that the entire deck is sloping as opposed to having wooden shims. The purpose of this is to avoid 'pulling' yourself with the shoes

  • @buckykatt323 the angle of the incline is miniscule. When your weight sits on it, it just helps move you towards the stern, while you just try and let the boat move under you. It's really at the finish when you have to be careful with your torso, to not send energy downwards, moving the boat slightly deeper, increasing wetted surface, increasing drag =D

  • same thing happened to kid on my boat, crabbed while crossing finish (i think that was the finish)

  • I sort of feel at least one of them deserved it.

And I don't see how it can be claimed that women are better than men at rowing. The majority of mens crews would beat the majority of womens crews, but the same is true in many many sports, because men and women are physiologically different.

Livelovelaugh, your womens crew must be a very good womens crew to beat what you claim to be a high quality mens crew.

  • opps

  • *Ouch* ??

  • bad rowers, but very good video (sorry but my english is so apolagize...)

  • oh bad. with full speed in the face

  • that's a bad one

  • oh man, nasty!

  • missing water at the catch

  • reminds me of the days on the schukil i don't think i spelled it right but oh well

  • schuylkill

  • yeah that happens when you get tired and don't tap down enough, honest mistake that every one makes.

The crew is looking quite nice though, nice one :)

  • i love crew and catching a crab is not fun especially during a race

  • wenn das nicht wasserfrei ist^^

  • it might be a novice boat but give them a break, at least they were together

  • it looked like they wern't rushing either

  • true dat, and that is not a huge crab...the big ones are when they pull the guy or girl out of the boat.

  • hey don't talk about girl rowers

most girl rowers are better than guys

  • thats true though, theyre usually more motivated and are beter tecnique wise, a dude would still stomp a girl in a race though, just cause were so much bigger

  • No thats not always true either though.

I'm on a rowing team and our Varsity A boat last year crushed the guys Varsity A boat and our guys varsity boat is amazing

But you can't compare guys to girls

its like comparing apples to oranges

Guys have more muscle than girls

  • or the "girls" in your boat are men....

with names like helga and olga

    that take steroids and testosterone

    and low grade beaver tranquilizer

  • @1TSJ0E LOL! dodgeball reference, love it

  • @1TSJ0E I think it was actually Bernice.

  • no..... well, if you mean technique, maybe

  • ur an idiot, guys are way better than girls at rowing and basically guys are better at everything

  • Sexist much?

have you ever heard of LPJ Chicago?

1st in the state of Illinois 7th in the nation.. guess who made us 7th.. the varsity girls

one of our girls was in the Junior olympics for the united states 2 years in a row like honsetly if you want to have this argument I'll have it cause I'll win but if you don't want to lose to a girl then i would stop talking right about now

oh and fyi i'm probably a lot smarter than you so don't ever call me an idiot again

  • You're definitely wrong. Women are slower than men in this sport[period] I am a mid-level collegiate rower and I am faster on the erg than any woman on the face of this planet. It's just basic physiology and unfortunately in rowing, women are on the short end of the stick.

  • oh no dude, we had a girl in ehths who pulled a 7:30 for the 2 k race, and has a scholarship to almost any school.

  • A 16 year old girl that i rowed with pulled 7:26 for a 2k.

  • agreed. women are often cited as having better form, but times on the water and the erg clearly illustrate that men's teams are faster. otherwise...GO HOLY CROSS ROWING!!!

  • arrogant much?

  • me arrogant? ha no just honest

  • you can't honestly say that men are better than boys at rowing. Thats a ludicrous statement to make. You would have a very strong case if you were just stating that women generally have better technique, but pound for pound they would lose

  • amen sister!!! LPJ killed me in my singles race at east fork chase but don't mess with clermont in the fall cause..we'll win hahah

  • what school is this?

  • rochester institute of technology

  • these guys row like girls....

  • Sexist...

  • these are not the best rowers to begin with

  • ...these guys gotta learn how to row. there all horible

  • thats nothing i caught a crab and smashed me in the face took out a tooth, ohh good times lol

  • why are they laughing at him? his teammates are fucking assholes.

  • I have a friend that caught a crab so bad that when the oar came back, it popped him in the eye. He had a black eye for at least two month and a bruised cheek bone.

  • head shot right there

  • hmmm quite impressive. At least he didn't do that 10 seconds before i've seen it happen in a big race though. The crew were gutted.

  • hahaha, i have never seen anyone catch a crab that badly.

  • Serious? I have seen some huuge ones. Bent the back stays waay out. Made of soft metal though so not surprised.

  • Well actually i was rowing in a double one day and the oar slipped out of my fingers, bent around the rigger and broke in half. That was a pretty bad crab lol

  • u cud see that coming a mile away

  • at least he caught it AFTER the race

  • man lol ouch

  • Houps le 3 a fait une "fausse Pelle"

  • that sucks lol
