@McQuarkland I completely agree, and looking back on it now, I'm not sure why I gave Chris Hart so much credit. He's certainly not the best there is. One big mistake in made when I started drawing was concentrating on detail and shading and such before I even learned the basics. Years later, I started over and learned shape, pose, proportions, etc. And now that I know my mistake, I always emphasize the importance of learned ng the basics to anyone getting into drawing Manga.

@Niccinick I think the larger problem is that you're wanting to draw manga at all. Honestly my problem with most people drawing manga is that they can't draw real people to begin with. Manga is just a form of cartooning. You need to start with the basics, such as Loomis, Vilppuu, Hogarth, Bridgeman, etc. You have to learn the rules of drawing the figure before you break them. You wouldn't learn to get better by copying Peanuts would you? Same thing applys with this. Also Chris hart sucks.

Ok i have the feeling you're not even reading what i posted. There is nothing wrong with drawing manga at all. I enjoy it too sometimes. BUT i did not learn to get better by just drawing in that "stylized" method. To reiterate you need to start from the ground up. Set aside the manga for now, and focus on actual figure drawing, proportion etc. what i said before. Then when you have advanced come back to the manga and used what you learned traditionally, and then break those rules.

@Niccinick That's good then that you are switching, my mistake if i misread your post. Just make sure that you focus more on realism, then in time go back to manga.

He draws too cartoony and draws specific characters, with very little important general info. for developing your own characters.
Chris Hart may try to put some head measurements or body proportions in his books but the books are still awful. They don't help anyone. Learning to draw anime before learning to draw in general is a big no-no. Not because I dislike anime but because there are fundamental principles you are missing when you skip to the stylized stuff. In fact, there is so much you just don't understand when you just pick up a Chris Hart book, you're doing more harm than good just studying it.
@DuskfireDream If you re-read what i actually said, Most How to Draw books are indeed terrible, and that would include CHRIS HART. Seriously people, you want to learn how to draw pick up loomis, george bridgeman, or my personal favorite Glen Vilppu. Those guys will teach you how to draw the figure. Not these horrible anime books sold by white people through scholastic.
this sorta helped so im gonaa thumbs up but people im good at drawing manga but i used to suck and i went to the library and found a book called drawing more manga by katty copee just look up the title because i dont know if i got the authors name right

Your video did help me, but to be honest, i can just draw a manga characters' body straight onto the page. I also find it easier to draw in pen sometimes because it means it's putting pressure on me. It also REALLY helps that i'm ambidextrous.
GOOD. i finally learnt. i can draw a head perfect without any measurments but i never learn how to do proper body. ive been putting chibi bodys on complicated and layerd heads.=="

GOOD. i finally learnt. i can draw a head perfect without any measurments but i never learn how to do proper body. ive been putting chibi bodys on complicated and layerd heads.=="

@MrMRCrazyGamer try drawing a oultine of where you want the robe to be. then add wrinkles itll take time and practice though
