  • this is so damnly right ! And i was feeling that I was stuck in this status but watching back the art i produced couple of years ago, seen now with my enhanced skilled eye says that though im not aware of it, there is a progression. Problem is always ... the lack of time to produce more and therefore ... to progress more ;)

  • <3 thank you

  • This is almost like its been dropped in my lap at the perfect time. I'm in university and i've felt every step of the way what i'm doing just isnt that special, so wow this is an eye opener to hear other creative people having this problem. Not that i was the only one but when your at uni and ur struggling you dont talk about it, so this guy has vented for me when i felt i couldnt/wouldnt.

  • Awesome, I been needing to hear that. I been working on a few stories some older or younger than others. I been working on one for about 2years. I just really need to get it done and let someone read it. Thanks for uploading this :)

  • I love that man, he's perfect for what he does, and i'm glad he finally got this message out. this is going to be my motivation from now on!

  • I'm going to watch this daily

  • I needed to hear this. <3

  • This inspires me so much! I will keep trying to get better! ;3;

  • This is a EXACT description of what im going through.....

  • It's about time someone put my frustrations into words! Insta-like and favorite! =D

  • I know it says story, and probably is more aimmed at writers. But DAMN! This is very true for artists, too. I love this video. <3

  • he really only said practice makes perfect. i love watching the words but its not exactly ground breaking

  • @SodaPopElectric Yes, but what he is also doing is saying it in a way that a lot more people could understand, y'now? which creates a lot of support and relief for people. Well, at least that's what I got from this video, my work has been pretty shitty, and it's good to hear, practice makes perfect, in a more reassuringly way then as if your art must irrefutably be perfect.

  • Amen! Testify!

  • why I can't like this more than once, I want to push "like" like 1000000+ times

  • Book? Month? How much free time do you think I have?

  • @Lunapopet less time than you would've had without complaining.

  • @thisthinline You're not giving me any more.

  • Killer taste~

  • Thank you, thank you so much.

It's frustrating to hear people go up to you and say, 'Why are you so talented?' or 'I wish I had your talent!' like we got it naturally instead of working a bazillion times harder/ more hours than other people at perfecting that skill. As if we just sat on our ass and talent so happened to fall into our lap.

Thank you for explaining that feeling.

  • @Whxyte I can't relate to you but I have practiced and seen improvement in my work and I love your little quote "As if we just sat on our ass and talent so happened to fall into our lap." Can I like use that with paraphrase or something?

  • wow thats really cool 0u0

  • TUMBLR BROUGHT ME HERE :)

  • Sobbing. :')

    Thank you very much.

  • Thank you so much, this is just...unbelievably wonderful to hear. <3

Good luck to everyone else as well! Someday we won't need it. :)

  • inspiration.

  • I love Ira Glass.

  • Thank you so much for this. I was having a rough time feeling like everyone around me was surpassing me, while I was still stuck in the same unimaginative rut, but now I realize giving up would be worse than stopping at all, or worse, wallowing in self-pity! I feel much better now!

  • I'm like, crying.

  • Thank you so much !!

  • thank you

  • Believe me when I say, everytime I feel like giving on anything I do again, I'll come back here and watch this video. I know it will make me keep going till I'm less dissapointed at what I do :)

  • These are most encouraging words I have ever heard in the whole of my life. I've loved writing since I was 10, I know I get a little better with every passing year, but there are still times when I just want to give up on everything, when I feel everything I do is bullshit. There are times when I question everything about myself as a writer. But this video, these words – I started crying, because these words just went straight to my heart. I will always come back to this when I doubt myself.

  • I've been in this phase for a good 5 years now...

  • i fight my way trough...never give up ...and taking my time... i also do not worry abaut 2012 dec 21 :) because here in romania we are 50years behind in time :)

  • I cannot watch this or hear these words enough. As others have said, I too have been in this phase for what seems like far too long. However, I know now that I can use it to grow and create until I am truly happy with what I do.

Thank you so, so much for sharing this with the world. I am truly grateful.

  • It seems straightforward, but everyone needs to hear it.

  • This guy put into words what I have been trying to describe or understand for a long time. I feel so relieved. :)

  • I've been in that phase for who knows how long. I've come so close to quitting many times, but I still love writing and I didn't ever plan on giving it up fully. After this, I plan on jumping in with both feet and see where I land.

  • Thank you, this is so encouraging‼
