Thanks MB420. Out of all the guitars I have, it's my favorite. I have better playing and better sounding guitars than this one but it's still my baby.
Sounds pretty fuckin good mate! She turned out pretty nice in the end. You remind me of rush, or maby early styx or similar, you have a good singing voice, and play well. Did you route out many chanmbers in the body or just the 1 near the back of the guitar as shown in the first build video? I also gather that first coat of stain was to soak into the body, then you kept sanding, then re applying more stain, rinse repeat ect? It sounds real good, you got me thinking about doin one myself. Cheers
hey dude, been searching all over for how to take a pickup out of an acoustic electric (washburn), i plan on kinda taping it to my humming bird lol. is there anyway i can do that?
basically, can i remove the pickup without destroying my guitar? and then just kind of stick on my humming bird? it's a normal ac/elec setup, EQ, powered by a nine volt battery.
you can remove any pickup from any guitar, take your time and remember the less you have to cut...the less you have to solder back together. good luck with it.
I checked out your build video and followed up to watch this. I'm glad that all that hard work paid off so well, Not only does it look great it sounds great!
Hey Howdy09; You're not the first person to say that it looks like a Godin. :-) I actually took a tracing from an old Washburn SBF-24 I have hanging around in dissrepair. I went through a BOSS CE-2 and into an old solid state Yamaha JX55 that has seen better days for sure. 20+ years old and a little touchy from time to time.
Mine hasn't got a soundhole or a piezo so you could just say it is a normal electric BUT it is semi hollow and is made from pine (150 years old) and has the neck joint at the 14 fret. It can sound very acoustic without the need for active electronics. (and 9v batteries!) I guess it's a bit of a hybrid!
150 yo?! holly crap!! that's one seasoned piece of wood ya got there. I'll bet it has wonderful tone. Take good care of her!! Who makes it? Or is an old custom made deal?
I used minwax in a rattle can, five cans worth, wet sanding every third or fourth coat. Wait about six months before the final wet sand, this way you can be totally sure that all the layers have cured completely and then buff with automotive swirl remover for a high gloss finish. Good luck with the Strat project!
Awesome Job man! Nice work very nice work! That guitar is beautiful and now I want one. Very interesting to watch the slide show video on how you built it and then to see it in action was fantastic, I only hope my strat project goes well. What laquer did you use for the finish?
Thanks vicvancedance, The mahogany neck and body with the maple overlay in combination with the chambering inside body just lends it self to a very punchy clear sound with nice bass responce that resonates well. It's a joy to play and has become my main stage instrument for tunes that I'm not playing lead in. This was my first attempt at building a body from scratch and it worked out well, beginners luck I guess ;-D
Metallicafan1234, thanks, I've allways loved unique wood grains on guitars so, it was a simple choice for me to go with a spalted top. It was just a major bonus that it happened to be so nicely flamed as well.
I had watched Part ! and id have to say you did a good job! So of course I had to hear how she sounds! lol Sounds wonderful and the Wood is just Pure Elegance! Great Choice in wood!
Dude, for somethin you have made yourself, that is absolutely incredible,a work of art. I don't suppose there are any hints or step by step guides you could lead me to to building my own guitar are there?
Hi magnusdeus123, It has an under saddle piezo pickup. I really didn't show that precess in the building video, I should've I guess sorry. If you watch the builbing video when only half of the spalted top is on you can see the channel cut in the bridge support that was left after carving out the chambered portion of the body. This is for the pickup wire. This is just a hobby that I picked about two years ago. Hey If I can do it....anybody can. go for it and good luck.
This might seem like a very noob comment sir , and I watched your other video to just make sure , but.....where exactly are the pickups ?!!?
Great guitar regardless . Are you a professional maker , or is this a pet project of sorts ??
Being a bass guitar player myself , I was toying with the idea of getting a chance to make a guitar for myself sometime in the future . Your other video has been very helpfull in atleast getting some understanding , so thanks .
Hey there! Intersting guitar, I really like it. But something intrigues me: it seems to be a six string guitar, yet it's sounding like a twelve string. Are you using a chorus or some other effect? what is the body made of? Man, just awesome. What is the song?
Where'd you install the piezo? Under the bridge, under soundboard (where the bridge would be?) or in the middle of the soundboard?

oh wow i thought it would take longer then that, but how many hours did u work on a day (approx)
hardrocker569 3 years ago
where are the pickups
snowsoccer23 3 years ago
it's in the same place that 99% of all electric acoustic pickups are located X-D
tkojams 3 years ago
Mine must be in the 1% then! Or does that make mine a regular electric, you can be the judge!
Andystonemusic 3 years ago
There's piezo pickup under the saddle in the bridge. Where is yours located? is it a soundhole mounted humbucker?
tkojams 3 years ago
