  • !!!!!

  • he is not tate but not bad

  • I was fortunate to see DT and QR on this tour. Once of the best shows Ive ever seen with two of my all-time favorite bands! I just dont see why QR and DT fans slam each other's bands?????? I love both bands! Actually I do see. Its the same reason DT fans slam Jame LaBrie. Ive learned over the years there are some very arrogant DT fans.

  • 3:27 Tate shows who's boss.

  • This performance really rocked, I mean REALLY KICKED SOME ÄSS!!! Suberb!

  • To all you anal critics of Labrie, let's hear you do it better or please just shut the fuck up.

  • I love how the crowd roars at 3:34 But I probably love the reason why they roar much more than that :)

  • How can anyone but Geoff sing this,to quote Ronnie James Dio fucking amazing

  • To be honest here Labrie sounds better. His voice can sound more aggressive, when Tate has a completely different voice, they are both equally as good, and both of their voices are slowly aging. LaBrie's voice pulls you into the music more but Tate has the amazing tone, you can't compare them

  • @Skython11 Yea, LaBrie actually gets higher in vocal range than Tate, but everyone cheers for Tate...

  • @Skython11 @mg200442000 I really feel bad for James LaBrie. He is a brilliant singer. He can sing with emotion, he can sing high notes... he is just incredible. But he is under a lot of pressure, and he is attacked from all sides, especially from DT fans, who think they know all about music just because they listen to DT. Add the sickness he had for years to all that. At least he has the full support of his bandmates. He is the definition of underrated.

  • @ahmettc I agree, LaBrie is very good. His voice is improving again too, try looking up vids of recent performances. He almost managed to hit THE F sharp in from Learning to Live.

PS: the thing about a lot of fans thinking they know about music because they listen to DT. That's not me, I can and regularly write music, and I understand how amazingly complex DT is. But can say that and point out what I'm talking about.

  • @ahmettc I cant imagine DT with a different singer. LaBrie's voice is what attracted me to DT the first time I heard Pull Me Under. Ive been a fan ever since!

  • GOD DAMN IT!

imagine how much more amazing this would have sounded if they did this song in 1992.....

  • Old Geoff is still alive and has still an incredible voice. Thanks for this video.

  • He didn't blow it badly. I admit James does not have the pipe of the all mighty Tate but he is a great vocalist. Why can't you sit back and enjoy some talent from both sides. Cause you and I both know QR has the pipes but DT has the music.

  • Seriously all of you, he botched one high note. He does it a lot, so does tate. I have heard tate botch this song a ton of times, I have heard Labrie botch high notes a bunch of times, it's being an aging "throat throwing into the ceiling" rock singer. This is a major league fail? This is a live show, it happens. you fucksticks.

  • Tate is still a fucking god to this day!

  • I agree wwith 1972njr LaBrie you failed on this night . MAJOR LEAGUE FAIL!!!!

  • According to an interview that Portnoy gave some time ago, this tour with Queensryche was quite annoying for DT. Mike Stone tried to give Petrucci some tips on how to play the guitar. With all due respect for Queensryche, Stone isn't even worthy to make JP a cup of tea.

  • @irelandexplorer You can learn alot of thing from other players no matter how good you are.

  • Tate FTW!!!

  • We see the light of those

    ooh I'm a fool

    our dreams I chew...

Labrie is a true genius. Respect.

  • Both were better in their prime - but LaBrie has held up a THOUSAND times better. He takes insanely good care of his voice. Tate doesn't suck by any standard though.

  • @liquifex Labrie didn't take good care of his voice,he does now, after busting it up,like tate.

  • @sobeto28 He busted it up during the Awake tour....do you know how long ago that was? Since then he's gone OCD with his vocal care. Don't question me!

  • There' s no quest or doubt : in 1992 - 1993 La Brie was incredible and not reacheable by anyone !

  • @ub3r2008.. I actually saw them at the Blue Note in South Caroline back in 07...and Tate nailed it...identically to the album.. I was blown away... and so were many in the crowd.. I guess.. its just being lazy now.. or seeing if Labrie can pull it off...which he can't obviously...lol

  • Tate's scream @ 3:30 destroyed everyone attending that show!

  • Definitely a Fail! They ruined it on 1:11... the famous tate scream makes that part... but it was a fail.. I think Tate should have done it there... instead of Labrie... cat cry..lol

  • @aries4973 Geoff didn't manage to do that part live on the Evolution DVD either, and that was a few years before this.

  • dudes a bad dude....sounds good too....

  • classic, /watch?v=QAXq3zckdQ0, /watch?v=o5L-AfTUmT0

  • Two of the finest singers on the planet, two of the very best prog metal bands, one epic performance.

How i wish I was there.

  • @jaycewheeled Hell yeah, friend. The only thing I can add is TAKE! HOLD! (and LIGHTNING STRIKES!)

  • I love 3:33 fucking awesome

  • well done two great bands performing together

  • 3:30

  • If the big four of prog metal (DT, Queensryche, Fates Warning, and Symphony X) played together on one stage, the world would collapse just like how it did when the big four of thrash played together.

  • Tate has waaay more range and is note perfect in concert. I Like James but he is very limited in comparison

  • We are strong.

    We are still United.

    we are one.

America is Children of the stars.

  • @novusord UM.... No

    We are the strong

    The youth united

    We are one

We are children of the light....

  • tate has a more powerful voice.

labrie has a more beautiful voice.

a wonderful combination lets leave it at that

  • Wow guys, both bands and singers seem to have alot of respect for each other - for if they did not, they would not have even appeared on the same stage doing a staple QR song; a cover for DT - who in their own right are respected major artists.

  • This is no different than Ripper Owens fronting Judas Priest. You can sound identical, and you can sound awesome, but you can never capture the essence of the original.

  • Chiiling....

  • u guys are all nuts tate used to be great labre is medeocre at best ,,tate is shot,,michael kiske should be singing this. the only guy that could still do it right

  • fuck the competition side to this performance, there is none, they are performing as one, and theyre all phenominal

  • I like Tate's voice better. Don't forget he is not young here. Check out the original recording of this song.

  • Tate's voice is hard to mimic, And i think LeBrei does an admirable job.

  • Tate craps on Labrie and always has.

  • @dbasto1 LaBrie has an ok range, but Tate has the range AND presence. he has far more power to his voice. When LaBrie goes for the higher octaves he just sounds whiney. Tate can hit the high octaves with a strong texture to his voice making him more of a powerhouse.

  • @j800r labrie is a tenor, tate is a baritone. in high octaves, labrie's voice is more agile than tate and definetly not whinney!

  • 3:35....tates still got it.

  • Comment removed

  • = me weeping

  • They totally nailed the harmony solo. That was sweet.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • i think it was great it seems like everybody likes to compare band to band its freckin pointless everyone has there own style so stop wasting comment space

  • I've seen Michael Wilton together with 3 other guitarists (through DVD's and clips, unfortunately not live), I'm gonna have to say he works surprisingly well with a god like Petrucci (that I have seen live recently before Portnoy quit)

  • Oh man would I love to see that live! Both vocalists were kick ass, musicians rocked.......of course.

  • Geoff Tate is crazy good...don't get me wrong, but his voice is all heady, and he can't sing like he used to by a long shot. LaBrie is the better singer. I love both though, so it doesn't matter!

  • ahah no one cares how lebrei sings XD all TATE BABY

  • geoff looks ridiculous

  • no one can sing like him even in the studio !!!!!!! saw them live in the 80"s

  • Geoff Tate seriously buries James LaBrie. LaBrie's high notes sound tinny and thin compared to Tate's. Geoff's transitions between lower notes to higher notes is a lot more pleasant IMHO. Geoff's vibrato is also very nice.

  • why do people say tate sucks nowadays? he sang amazingly there

  • @Jesse19912 compare to 1985 videos

  • @bonfirejovi of course he is not as good as back then. But he is still an amazing singer nowadays

  • Also James was recovering from vocal chords rapture at this particular time. No way he could perform. Regarding Geoff, he helped Jaime Indirectly to develop the breathing exercises he then used to write his book and alas help James. Arguing which one of two loving friends is the best is truly ridiculous.

  • For all critical morons try in youtube!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The high notes of James Labrie! Don't cry after that motherfuckers Hahauahaauhaau!!!

  • this was more than epic

  • Amazing video

    THK

  • Love the double solo! :D

LaBrie didn't sound so great during the verses, but he nailed the chorus and the last scream!

  • I was disapointed on the obviously legendary high note that labrie kinda avoids at the begining of the song that brings the song out of the intro but he still kicks ass as a singer in my book

  • I will say this !!!!! Both of them can kick my ass any day with their voice talents.

  • DT is a better band musicly, QR have written better songs in my opinion and Tate should have been the singer for DTto start with. Labrie is great but Geoff has a bit more range from bottom to top. Love them both and Rush is the greatest band in the world and they both (DT and QR) know that.

  • @gotmonkeyfinger its your point of view ;) dt by far the best band in the world for me but rush is a good band

  • @gotmonkeyfinger They both suck Rush's dicks

  • @salempc im not sure how you mean that. my first reacation is " yea!" then ,,,, im not sure. anyway both bands combined arn't as great as the great Rush! Is that what you mean?

  • @gotmonkeyfinger They both suc rush's diks

  • I met Mike Portnoy the day before yesterday at a meet and great!

  • Tate looks like Rob Halford:D

  • @JudasCruiser Tate looks like he ate Halford!

  • What happened between Geoff and them?

  • Both James and Geoff voice work great together. Both bands just Killer! Maybe one day they will patch things up with Geoff and Tour again.

  • Im not a fan of Queensryche or Dream Theater.

(Im just getting into ryche DT didnt do it for me)

Anyway i must say James has a beutyful voice till he starts singing in the

5 octave then he sounds horrible.

And Goeff Im almost as good as Rob Halford in his prime Tate?

    Amazing voice.

  • I should have been listening to more Queensryche. I didn't realize how incredible Geoff's voice is!

  • Jeez....the talent on that stage.....awesome.

  • OMG LaBrie!! That was a major FAIL. He never has nor ever will have a voice even close to Geoff Tate and there was the proof. That intro is a bit sacred to ryche fans like myself and he blew it, badly

  • @1972njr

I do perfectly agree with that.

LaBrie is a great vocalist no doubt but in a comparison to Geoff Tate no one can win

  • @1972njr

I do perfectly agree with that

LaBrie is a great vocalist, no doubt but in comparison to Geoff Tate no one can win.

  • @1972njr TOTALLY AGREED!!

  • @1972njr Right this one clip is total proof, dude they are old live rock singers, do you know how many clips there are of each one performing horribly? TONS! You idiot. Only a knucklehead bases the idea of someone failing COMPLETELY on one live clip. People like you who feed into the VS complex are the real DB's It's because of dicks like you whenever I say I like QR or DT there is some QR or DT fan slingin "Well you know JL is shit compared" or "PFFT GT sucks compared to" Fuck off dicks.

  • I personally think Labrie did a great job in this...

  • Is Geoff tate bald in this video

  • DUDE, You need to have your mouth washed out with Kerosene! What were you thinking by comparing Freddie "THE POLE SMOKER" Mercury to Geoff Tate??? Thats like comparing Barney Fife to Bruce lee dude! Like comparing Eddie Vanhalen to the Dixie Chicks! Thats GOT to put a "shit taste" in your mouth! Hey, I heard the "Cabbage patch kids" have just put out a new "EP" - you ought to check it out!

  • Freddie Mercury's a "POLE SMOKER"... Don't EVER put him in the same sentence as Geoff Tate! HOLY SHIT THAT"S LIKE COMPARING BARNEY FIFE TO BRUCE LEE! Some things should NEVER be compared - And this is it!

  • This is sick! "BURN IT DOWN"! Smokin set!

  • Freddie Mercury > Tate = Labrie = Alder >> all other singers

  • @Neueregel : u r kidding aren't u? :D

    Freddy Mercury better than tate?

    Never.

Tate teaches professional Opera singers and of course he's much better than LaBrie too.

No doubt both r great, but no singer is even to tate.

  • @DrecksOchse you mean he was. I love QR/Tate but I have to admit he doesn't reach the high notes he used to. And Freddie Mercury is maybe of 2-3 major inspiration for most rock/metal singers you can ask, not to mention that Queensrcyhe got their name partially from Queen as a prefix, back in 1981-1982. You see the influence now?

  • @Neueregel : no doubt about that he is getting older as everyone else is.

Well, I wasn't talking about who influenced whom here.

Of course u r right but I was just saying that I can think of no other vocalist who has ever been on the same level Geoff Tate was is his best days

  • @DrecksOchse What about Midnight from Crimson Glory or Michael Kiske from Helloween? They reached very high notes as well.

  • @Neueregel First off, awesome name. But yeah, there are many vocalists who can get up to those registers. Guys like Steve Grimmett, Michael Matijevic, Jeff Scott Soto and so on, what makes Tate so amazing is he's a natural bass/baritone meaning he had to work for his awesome range. Brilliant choices with Kiske and Midnight, sad that Midnight isn't with us anymore, guy was a legend.

  • @Arkturasbalboa Well I guess it's a matter of taste in eachone of us. Many many good vocalists around, but those were my choices in metal. Midnight was amazing, Mike Baker of Shadow Gallery was decent. Soto is good but doesn't do metal mainly, my initial discussion was about metal, not rock

  • @Neueregel There is a difference in the operatic full power highs and the falsetto highs used by Kiske. Difference in singing from your throat versus the power that comes from the diaphragm.

  • @1972njr kiske never used falsetto, he always uses full voice(head voice). also falsetto is not about throat-tech. i think dont make a comment. false datas lead people more than true datas. geoff is a high-bartione so his higher notes are little darker than kiske or labrie. this is not mean that kiske used falsetto

  • @DrecksOchse I agree with you, mate. In the late 80's and early 90's Tate was unreachable for any metal singer except Dickinson, probably.

  • @Anes993 What about Rob Halford, Ian Gillan, or King Diamond?

  • @PinkFloydAreGods I'm talking about late 80's to early 90's, so Gillan is definitely out of question. By that time, he had lost his voice. Obviously Halford and King Diamond had an incredible range, but in my opinion they weren't as expressive as Dickinson.

  • @Anes993 As much as I love Maiden, I have often thought that with the bands early sound resembling Maiden, that Geoff said to himself one day, "I can do better" And so he did. I don't think Bruce Dickenson can keep up with the clarity that goes with Geoff's power.

  • @DrecksOchse

Since when has Geoff been teaching professional opera singers?

It's amazing the shit people pull out of their ass when trying to prove a point.

It doesn't even bother you that you spat a complete lie from your fingertips and state your opinion as fact?

  • @DrewciferFSA

I see you have no idea :D

it's amazing what kind of shit YOU are talking. ;)

And I don't have to prrof any point cause anyone will hear tate's better.

  • @DrecksOchse the first time, when Tate sang opera was on Take Cover, he said it in his interview :) He just talented since he was born, no opera influence in this. He is one of the best rock singers of all times. It's sad, that he almost lost his abilities through the years. But he still can sometimes do great things, and I can hear it in this video!

  • @GomerSexual ..If you notice...tate and Halford are using the same techniques now..a "Wobble"..its an opera term..they make the vibrato happen..instead of it it happening naturally...Its natural for a male voice to decline with age..these guys..(halford, tate) continue to move forward and train like the professionals they are..None of them are "beat" up...

  • @DrecksOchse this must be the greatest fail of all times :D

  • @DrecksOchse except chriss cornell and mercury.

  • @DrecksOchse Roy Khan best vocals evah!

  • @Stogie41

    ROY KHAN IS THE BEST!!!

  • @Fluffypopcicle tate looks scary, like a cult leader!!! is he still in queensryche?

  • @DrecksOchse no offense but Labrie is singing parts once sung by Tate because he can't sing them anymore. I love both, but Labrie is way better.

  • Ah, I remember my first beer.... or ahem... I remember when I used to think of singing ONLY on a technical level. Tate is an amazing singer but you have to be into that style. Matt Barlow doesn't have Tate's range but Tate also cannot growl or get the demonic low tones of Barlow. He also cannot do the weird ambient noises that Mike Patton does or rap like Patton. EVERY SINGER HAS LIMITATIONS

    KEEP IT METAL!

  • @Neueregel Not sure what you're smoking but STOP!!!! It's obviously cooking your brain

  • @1972njr I am not smoking anything. However, YOUR little CLOSED brain DOESN'T seem to allow random strangers on the Intrernet like me, to have their different OPINIONS and favourite singers. So, Turn your little closed Brain ON and make a decent argument next time, otherwise your reply SCREAMS "I am 10 years old,, look at me"

  • Now, I know that this is a Queensryche song, but LaBrie sings better here. He is more open and powerful. Tate sound strained. This is no disrespect to Tate. He is one hell of a singer. These two are perhaps the best two singers of the past thirty years. Operation Mindcrime and Images and Words are probably the two hardest metal albums to sing. Prog Metal lives on!

  • 3:30 godlike moment. listen to the crowd roar for Geoff

  • This is quite irrelevant, though the only guy that seems to have gotten better with age is Biff Byford of Saxon :D

Man that guy sings better than ever.

  • That last high note by LaBrie is very well done.

  • Well Queensryche rules in my book anyway..

  • Tate nailed the high pitch . The other guy kind of sounded like Vince Neil... maybe a little better

  • labrie damaged his voice at one point if I am not mistaken--

they are both great, but I would have to agree-- this video does neither any justice--

neither is gonna be able to sing this tune the way it was done when Tate was 24 years old.

and they aint washed up, blica-- things change, and one day you will wake up and find that things aint as easy.

You probably couldnt sing a fucking nursery rhyme onstage for a week and be consistent.

  • two stars shinin in a same sky , harmoniously

  • both bands had their time and are washed up !!..great musicians, but washed up..the only guy who makes a decent living now is portnoy , with all his clinics and endorsements..tate looks like mr.clean and that other guy looks like my brother's metal head friend from back in 1987 !!

WASHED UP-A REENO ! LMAO !! PROGRESSIVE METAL. ..WHAT AN ANCIENT MUSICAL CONCEPT..EVEN BANDS LIKE RUSH HAVE EVOLVED FROM THEIR 2112 DAYS..THESE GUYS HAVEN'T AT ALL , WHICH MAKES IT DATED AND A LITTLE SAD ..

  • In the years to come, all that really matters is what survives from the studio. In that regard both singers are immortal and sing to perfection.

  • sorrybut...Labrie Rips Geoff apart HERE anyways...Geoff is so strained and if you think he isnt you know nothing about Vocals im not even a vocalist and i can tell hes struggling he has No power here I love geoff tate but this video does him no justice

  • Why are you guys bashing LeBrei? I think he holds his ground very well next to Tate; both are excellent, well-trained, and talented performers.

  • de acuerdo contigo

  • Don't forget about Eric Martin with Mr. Big

  • James Labrie, Geoff Tate, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Geddy Lee (not in any particular order), the best vocalists.

  • some of my favorite as well!!!

  • Completely agree, although I would add Hansi Kursch, Freddie Mercury, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Matt Barlow, Warrel Dane, Mikael Akerfeldt, Ray Adler, and Steve Perry to that list.

  • Great song and excellent interpretation. Applause for Dream Theater and Queensryche ! Fuckin great !

  • This vid is fucking great! For those of you that think LeBrei is better than Tate must be smoking crack! Listen to the album Rage for Order or better yet the most brillant album of all time "Operation Mindcrime." The only ones that are equal to or better than Tate are Dio, Halford, Dickinson and Sebastian Bach.

  • A mindless and useless debate. They are both very good at what they do.

  • You, looking at all the comments, some people saying the Tate is a better singer. I understand where you guy s are coming from. But you couldnt be any more wrong they are both incredible singers. And Geoff did own the song, think about it, ITS A Queensryche song!!

  • Geoff comes in and owns his song here.

  • Tate and LaBrie are a closer comparison than Petrucci and Wilton. Petrucci owns the deed to Wilton's ass on guitar and Mike Stone was a worthless replacement for DeGarmo.

  • LeBrei has his own tone indeed...I prefer Geoff

  • poooor Labrie......... he should take lessons with Tate..... or nevermind, he'll never sing like him anyway.... It's a joke how powerless he sounds compared to Tate

  • @cadinhosouza i think you dont understand from the vocals. you may hate labrie.

  • Both are good here!

  • holly shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fucking cool! It's moments like these that make me sad to think that some people think Dragon force is cool

  • WOW!!! AWESOME PERFORMANCE!!!

  • LeBrei sounds like Styx..Geoff atate RULES HERE1

  • There's only one singer on that stage - it's GT of course - I can only hear a bleeding sheep beside him who ruins this wonderful song

  • You need to go doctor and check your eyes and also your ears! You fucking dumb.

  • Both great singers. Amazing song.

  • i saw this show when it came to seattle and Dream Theater opened the show but came back on with the Ryche to do the encores wich were all cop tunes that they all traded off parts while they played and finaly ended the whole thing with this song, the concert rocked!

  • I don't know who told you Dream Theater opened for Queensryche, but, NO

  • Wow Vic Mackey singing for Queensryche lol

  • imaginen la cancion de Queensryche Murderer? pero con dream theater

    tsssss

    que progresivo se oie eso

ai que aser eso entre varios fans

  • nice Queensryche and Dream theater...

dos bandas del mismo estilo tocando canciones de ambos

deverian hacer un dueto en algun disco actual

un disco tipo musical, asi como....

    Operation: Mindcrime 1 y 2

    Scenes From a Memory

    un disco asi como esos

WOW IMAGINEN FANS DE AMBAS BANDAS

    seria un gran proyecto

  • OMFG I was really Shocked to see my old idol singer Tate as fat and bald...at first but.. he still got the voice oh man. I love this, my two most favourite artists in one packet. luv QR luv DT =) Nice performance guys after all!

  • He grew his hair back, thankfully.

  • Geoff Tate ACABOU COM O LABRIE

  • SEE THE RESPECT OF John Petrucci TO CHRIS DEGARMO ON SOLO... DO THE SAME RESPECT THEM BOTH... GEOF AND LABRIE

  • reguardless of which vocals you like best, I just want to thank 4Octavarium for posting this video! This was one of those rare moments when the stars lined up just right, and my two favorite bands of all time where on stage together. Thank God you had your video camera, and shot this footage! I for one enjoy watching this every week. THANK YOU

  • I loved the harmonic part of the guitarsolo

  • Lets face it, Labrie couldnt hold a candle to Tate. Dreamtheater toured with Queensryche, not Queensryche with Dreamtheater. Labrie is great, but Tate is Godlike.

  • HOLY WORDS MY FRIENDS! Labrie is a useless prick compared to Tate! RYCHE ON!

  • Lets face it, Labrie could never hold a candle to Tate. Dream theater toured with Queensryche, not Queensryche with Dream theater. Labries voice is great, Tate is godlike.

  • one of the epicest songs ever

    and stop arguing

but i must say i prefer tate and queensryche

  • it's REALLY shocking to see Geoff bald!! Great duet though!
