As a post script, you pick the bass note for EACH of the chords not just the first chord.

And on the D chord, the strumming pattern stays the same but from the Cadd9 (x32033) you go into Dsus (x00233) instead. Play the Dsus with the normal pattern but on the final 'U' you lift your pinky off to return the chord to a Dmaj (x00232). The Dmaj again is just using the normal pattern, plus that one extra up stroke at the beginning.

The strumming pattern you use is incorrect if you want to play it like the album version. It goes like this:

D D UDU (repeated)

The first D in this pattern is picked on the bass note rather a strum on multiple strings. The following 'D UDU' is just lightly strummed around the DGBE area.

It's great that you're sharing your knowledge with people, but most people want to be taught a correct version. It's my opinion but you're not ready to teach a song until you can play it properly yourself.
