I've worked around working dogs for a little bit, and although I've never personally worked with one, I thought part of the handlers responsibility was to care for the dog for it's entire life. I'm not sure about military working dogs though, I would imagine they would be put down. I'm glad he's going to be taken care of too. Poor bugger is going to have to adjust to being retired though, ha!
I know that the interview said that he was going home with the officer. That dog is lucky, most of them get put down. I am glad he is going to be taken care of.
