  • No other word for Ian but ARTIST. Still working on a literary appreciation article for the serious academics. Better geter done while we see the grass from the sunjny side.

  • I lived two blocks from Charle Russell's house and studio in Great Falls. His magic is truly timeless.

  • I have a friend named Charlie Russell. my daddy asked me if he was a cowboy artist lol

  • A nice live version of this song... but it's called "The Gift" even though it is about Charlie Russell.

  • @Garpinator yes because he was a gifted sculptor and painter. so Ian is saying that God gave montana to these men but Charlie gto his greated gift to be abel to paint and sculpt it all

  • @BarrelRacingAngle Hmmmm... you wouldn't happen to have a big bay horse called "Rolling Sun" would you?

  • Back when I first heard this on Cowboyography it made me look up Charlie Russell's art and story (not much "web" back then - my original copy of the album was on vinyl). A wonderful discovery and connection (I had seen some of his art before but really did not know the story).

I have followed Ian since "Four Strong Winds" was "born" - just keeps getting better

  • I grew up listening to this over and over again. Montana was always just as he describes, and my memories of its beauty and people are fresh with his every word. CMR would be proud of this portrait. In charge of Montana sunsets indeed.

  • the real title of this song is the gift

  • Now if I could just find Horse Thief Moon, Old Corrals,And Sage Brush, Windy Bill and a few others by Ian.

  • charlie got to get her all down before she goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CMRussell was my grat grandfather and i am soo proud of him!!!!!!!! he sure tried to get her all down!

  • J.R.R. Tolkien who wrote the Lord of the Rings trilogy also wrote short stories. One of my favorites was "Leaf By Nigel". At the end of the story, God gives him the job of painting one perfect leaf.

  • great song

  • One the best Ian songs ever. Mr Tyson, thank you for all of your WESTERN music.

  • I agree. This is my fav. Then Navajo Rug and Alberta's Child.

  • chinook arch riders . Alberta is the best

  • Thank you so much BRod313 for this classic.

  • What a great video!

No one's better than Ol' Ian! What a voice - what a storyteller.

    Thanks for this memory

  • I LOVE IAN! There is no storyteller on earth that can match that man's ability to paint a picture with words and music!
